Transforming Baptist for the Future - Baptist Health Care

Page 1

LETTER FROM MARK FAULKNER On October 30, 1949, our founders broke ground to build Baptist Hospital with the purpose of bringing more modern health care to our community. Exactly 71 years from that date, we broke ground again. Continuing our founders’ bold vision and legacy, Baptist is making this investment to transform care in our community and improve the quality of life for generations to come. Our new home – the main hospital and health campus at the corner of Brent Lane and I-110 - furthers our journey to bring a modern and more accessible approach to health care to our region. The New Baptist Health Care Campus will be an innovative, convenient, safe and compassionate place to provide and receive care, incorporating modern efficiencies in a healing environment. Nothing of its kind has been imagined or currently exists in our area. We celebrate the single largest investment in health care facilities, services and programs in Northwest Florida’s history and our legacy of putting people first. The new campus will incorporate state-of-the-art technology, a concentration of related services and enable a modern approach to access, patient experience, wellness and care. Like those we serve, our community and our world, we have experienced many challenges in this past year. The challenges of 2020 have confirmed the critical role Baptist plays in stepping up to serve our community at all times and especially when we are needed most. Just as the community responded to the call for support by our founders, we are asking again for the same partnership and commitment to ensure we can accomplish the grandest of our visions for this once-in-a-generation transformational opportunity. As you read and visualize the impact this investment will have for the health of the community, I ask that you join us as a partner in philanthropy to support this transformation.

Sincerely, Mark

IMPACT PEOPLE FIRST In Pensacola and our surrounding region, we rely on anchor institutions like Baptist Health Care to lift our economy and support our very way of life. However, an investment in health care is so much more; it’s an investment in people of all genders, races, ages and socioeconomic classes. It’s an investment in community. Putting people first guides and influences everything we do at Baptist.

We remain the only community-owned and locally governed health care system in the region and are privileged to be given the responsibility to do what’s right for this community, today and far into the future. We believe there is no greater impact you can make than in people’s health and well-being — people we call friends, neighbors, colleagues and family.

Now we forge ahead with renewed commitment and passion, ready to care for the community for many years into the future. Our new campus supports our Vision to be the trusted partner for improving the quality of life for all people, regardless of the age and stage of life they face. – Mark Faulkner, President and CEO, Baptist Health Care

Bold transformation is about more than a place, a building — it’s about people and enhancements to how we treat, cure and care for our community.

AN INSPIRED PROJECT The New Baptist Health Care Campus is designed to support the community and our diverse population here in Northwest Florida. The goal of this project is to provide the absolute highest quality of care, in the most effective manner, while remaining sensitive to our resources. In doing so, patients and their families will receive a modern health care experience with the same loving kindness that makes our caregivers special. This is a project of massive scale that will reshape health care as we know it in our community. A vision this bold is never accomplished alone: it takes partners, collaboration and in today’s health care world — it takes philanthropy.

ORTHOPEDIC CENTER When Dr. James Andrews chose Baptist Health Care in 2007 to be his partner in orthopedic research, innovation and world-leading surgical care — it changed everything. The Andrews Institute brings star athletes to Pensacola and also focuses nearly 90 percent of its services on the local community. This commitment goes further by providing our community with free-to-the-public prevention programs, education, training and access to rehab centers throughout our region. Baptist Health Care’s Andrews Institute has evolved into ‘the’ orthopedic destination by extending an exceptional level of care to everyone in our community. Scott Raynes, Executive Vice President of Baptist Health Care says, “The orthopedic wing of the new hospital will house much more than the most advanced equipment and technology; it will ensure our community has access to world-class orthopedic care into the future. This new wing will provide complete orthopedic services including joint replacement surgeries, spine and advanced treatment options, and the timing couldn’t be better.” For the first time in human history, senior adults are projected to outnumber children. Total knee replacements are projected to increase by 189 percent— to nearly 1.3 million — by 2030. Outpatient joint replacements are projected to increase 227 percent over the next decade, providing relief from injury and chronic pain to countless individuals. The expansion of space, talent and technology is critical to meet the future needs of our community.

• Advanced hybrid operating rooms • State-of-the-art technologies • Faster recovery times • Outpatient quality of life

“Throughout my career I have seen the investment in advancing orthopedic care result in better patient outcomes, shorter hospital stays and a focused effort on providing patients with minimally invasive procedures. The investment Baptist Health Care is making will provide the surrounding Pensacola community with the latest orthopedic technologies at the new hospital location. This new level of care will also amplify the Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze, Florida as well as all of our area locations.” — Dr. James Andrews, Andrews Institute

HEART & VASCULAR INSTITUTE Building on our national reputation as a destination for the highest quality cardiac care, we now can offer enhanced technology and environment to match. This new cardiac center of excellence will combine inpatient and outpatient care in one location. The center will allow us to remain among the top 2 percent of all hospitals nationwide providing four of the most complex and advanced treatments in care for the heart. Our multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, clinical specialists, nurse practitioners and physical therapists can soon operate with maximum cohesion and effectiveness in what will be one of the most advanced and modern cardiac centers in the country.

• Region’s first advanced procedure and lab for electrophysiology • Consolidation of all clinics on one floor • Improved efficiency and convenience • Easier access to all services

CANCER CENTER Prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer in our community runs 24/7/365. When designing this new center of excellence, we put one thing front and center — patient experience. The relocation to our New Baptist Health Care Campus creates new possibilities to support patients with cancer. Now through collaboration, coordination and single-point-access, our incredible team of providers will be able to more effectively provide compassionate care to help our community fight cancer.

• Screening and oncology in one convenient location • Integrated therapy rooms • State-of-the-art equipment

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT The Baptist Emergency Department continues to see a higher acuity patient due to an aging population and a steady increase in behavioral medicine patients requiring care. The state-of-the-art ED will transform our emergency care — reducing wait times, enhancing privacy, improving patient and team member satisfaction and most importantly elevating the already high quality and safety standards.

• 60 new private exam rooms • Designed to handle future uncertainty • Reduced waiting times • More privacy

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH The Florida Department of Health indicates that Escambia County has over 9,000 adults who are seriously emotionally disturbed and another 3,000 youth that are described as having an emotional/ behavioral disability. As part of the Emergency Department project, the new Behavioral Medicine Unit enables patients the convenience of being cared for in one space rather than undergoing multiple transfers. As behavioral health issues continue to rise, it is critically important that these patients receive the very best in modern care.

• 10 private rooms • Modern technologies and comforts • Single point of care

BE A PART OF TRANSFORMING OUR FUTURE The New Baptist Health Care Campus was born from a legacy of putting people first by advancing health care access, experiences and outcomes for everyone in our community. This bold transformation involves more than a place — a building. This historic endeavor involves the people and enhancements that will advance how we treat, cure and care for our community — now and for generations to come. Through philanthropy, we can provide tools and environments to enhance the patients’ experience throughout their journey. This includes telehealth solutions, preventative care, education, access, personal navigators and coordinators to ensure care communication is shared with confidence, in addition to advancements never before thought possible. As a non-profit health care system, Baptist Health Care relies on partnerships with passionate and generous individuals in the community to help provide the right care in the right place for those who need it. We need you, your philanthropic support and your enthusiastic commitment to help us in our transformation as we bring the next generation of health care services to our community.
