How social media influence human life ? Written by Aleksandra Plewa
Let's start with answering a question what are social media ? Basically these are all of the websites, pages and applications, that allow us to create, share or exchange information, some ideas, pictures or videos. Social media come in various forms, for example : blogs, videoblogs, photoblogs , apps gathering music etc. The most popular are facebook, youtube, twitter, instagram and the newest snapchat. All of these applications give us the possibility to communicate and tell the world what we are doing at the moment. Social media have positive and negative effects on how we think and act. First of all social media are used to document memories, learn about and explore things, advertise oneself and form friendships. It is true that by using social media we can gain a lot of information not only about other people, but also about many other things like weather, important events or wars around the world. Knowing so many facts we feel mentally better , also it gives us new themes to discuss with friends, so everbody can express their opinion. Secondly, thanks to social media the way of communication between people is much better. But for facebook or skype
we could not communicate with our friends or family living far away from us. Unfortunately, not all is gold that glitters, social media have many drawbacks. The first serious problem connected with that is addiction to it. Addiction occurs over time, you often do not realize that the time that is given for the media is constantly increasing. The recipient devotes his time to the use of the social media which causes that he neglects his daily duties, personal life, work, learning, feels bad when from the medium can not take advantage . Mostly exposed to the impact of social media are children and youth. They spend too much time on their phones or computers. They have access to many websites not apropriate for them. As a result they forget about the world that surrounds them. They are easily getting tired and have problems with concentration. What is more information stored in the internet for example on gossip pages is not always true, but lots of people believe in everything that is written there. This causes social misunderstandings and arguments. Unnecessarily created gossips destroy people and their psyche. Not every human can face it, so as a result many of
them have depression, are afraid of people and what is the worst reach for drugs and other stimulants. To sum up, social media have many disadvantages, but living without them
would be much more difficult. I think that social media give us the possibility to introduce ourselves to the world , but we should remember about our responsibilities and not to get addicted.
Well-being week in Paderewski Monday ~Anita First day of our Well-being week in Paderewski was a day of a cosy outfit. All the students and even teachers had to dress up in their most comfortable clothes, such as sweatpants and slippers (it was very funny to see people in slippers with Homer Simpson’s faces or in animal shapes J). Everyone felt at home and people really enjoyed it. Of course, this day wouldn’t be so amazing if there weren’t Tai-chi workshops conducted by an invited specialist during the long break! Tai-chi is a Chinese martial art practised for both defence training and health benefits. It is inspired by nature, so most positions took their names from various animals or natural phenomena. In tai-chi, as we have been taught, the harmony plays a great role, so we had to be very concentrated and calm doing all these relaxing poses and moves. The teacher showed us some basic Tai-chi techniques and told her story about how she recovered her health after an accident thanks to Tai-chi. It was both inspiring and funny experience, because at first it was hard for us to imitate snakes, mantises or bears, which caused a lot of ridiculous mistakes, but it inspired us to seek connections between the poses we were doing and how it was a reflection of the natural environment. Everyone should try Tai-chi at least once!
Tuesday ~Kaja Whole Tuesday cookies with motivation quotes were available to buy for paltry sum. Every cookie had a motivation quotes like: The past cannot be changed. The future is yet in your power. ~Mary Pickford I don't believe you have to be better than everybody else. I believe you have to be better than you ever thought you could be. ~Ken Venturi The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any. ~Alice Walker Hundred different quotes in hundred cookies. No one was expecting that they will be so popular and they will disappear in few hours. All quotation was written in English, so they not only motivate people but also practice their English. We had listen to many people’s opinion about it and they said that such event should be repeated in near future, because those small cookies gave hope and happiness to everyone. Once person bought cookie, it return to buy another one, just to smile.
Tuesday ~ Dagmara On tuesday, Sushi workshops took place. Me, a few friends of mine and Sorka Basia went to the school canteen to meet one of cooks from a popular sushi restaurant in Lublin. For almost 2 hours he was teaching us how to prepare good homemade sushi. As we found out it is not as easy as it looks like. It takes a lot of time to create something tasty and in an appropriate shape! It was very funny and inspiring. I ended my workshops with the phrase: “I will never ever complain about a sushi restaurant again, when I will be waiting for my order!”. Afternoon with sushi was very relaxing and with great people. Sushi is very time consuming to prepare for someone who hasn’t got any skills and practise. It’s cool idea for someone who want to spend their free time with family.
Wednesday ~ Krzystof Wednesday was expected to be one of the most motivating days in the whole week. In the morning there appeared a short slideshow on the screens in the school hall. It was the collection of the greatest quotes and thoughts from the movie ,,The Bucket List”, which we have seen on Comenius meeting in Sweden. (Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman just made the movie one of the most inspirational and motivational piece of art-whoever hasn’t seen it yet, it’s a must-watch). Beside from the slideshow, we had the unique opportunity to get to know and share our biggest fears or passions anonymously with the project called ,,Before I die”. This originally comes from Canada, where one depressed girl wanted to bring the old building in her neighbourhood back to life. To do so, she changed the huge brick wall into the blackboard and the sentences :,,Before I die I want to…”left there to finish. Using a chalk, everyone who stopped by, could finish the sentences with whatever he wanted. Few days passed and the blackboard was filled with people’s thoughts. Something similar happened in our school. Students wrote really different thoughts, ranging from who they wanted to meet or what they wanted to get to what they wanted to achieve and what kind of person they wanted to become. Surprisingly. this activity turned out to be most successful. But that is not everything. ,,Bucket List” and ,,Before I die” were accompanied with the posters with the most inspirational movie quotes. Having prepared quotes from such films like ,,Into the Wild,, , ,,The Godfather” or ,,Star Wars”, we printed them and placed them in the most crowded places at the school. So summing up, on wednesday no one could really get away of being slightly inspired by one of these activities. We believe such projects also help someone take up important decision or just make a day look brighter and more optimistic.
Thursday ~ Alicja/ Ada & Nikola “Take what you need” is a very common idea which was invented in 2013. The base of action are posters with small cards where “essentials” are written. There can be write thing which each person need. For example; happiness, smile, friend, opportunity etc. Then, all those posters should be put in places where everyone can see and use it. On Thursday, 11th of December, in our school had place this action. Earlier, we prepared necessary posters with “essentials” which we selected. Then, at the crack of the dawn we put them in different places of our school; in school canteen, on hall, on walls and doors, at library etc. On each break, we were observing how those “essentials” disappear. Almost every student or even teacher stopped, picked up and tear their need. On that they, at school a lot of approving words about this action. People were really interested in this idea. Due to pretty amusement interesting of students/teachers, there were some queues to see what those posters were exactly about. At the end of the day, all need were taken, but people seems to be happy even it was just a paper. “Speed Dating” Speed dating is known as a method of meeting potential romantic partners in which participants has only few minutes to talk to each other. Ours speed dating was a bit different than the normal one because it wasn’t about dating. Our aim was to encourage people from our school to know each other. Usually when we talk with someone for the first time it’s a bit awkward because we don’t know what we should talk about in order to get rid of all that awkwardness we prepared cubes with questions that might be a conversation topic. A lot of people were willing to participate in our action so I think that we can proudly say that it was successful.
Friday ~ Wiktoria We ended the week spectacularly with a two hour long volunteer fair! We had 10 organizations come to our school to present their actions and to answer all the questions we had about volunteering. It started with an action that is wellknown for most of our students because we tend to be involved in it each year, it’s Pomóż Dzieciom Przetrwać Zimę (Help Children Survive Winter). Szlachetna Paczka was the second one to show their organization, their main aim is to help families in need by raising money and providing them with some necessary goods. Next up was Warsztaty Kultury, an organization focusing on cultural aspects and events in Lublin. After that it was time for Viva, which is an organization promoting veganism and fighting for animal’s rights. After a quick break, two lovely ladies from the Hospice of the Good Samaritan (Hospicjum Dobrego Samarytanina), who explained us their works and actions in great detail, showing a lot of pictures to make it more visual for us. Another Hospice we could get to know more about was Hospicjum im. Małego Księcia (named after the Little Prince). Then, it was time for what was probably the most original and exciting presentation. Three volunteers from the Red Cross showed us what to do in a situation in which someone is unconscious and needs aid. Then we had the opportunity to listen to yet another organization concerning animal rights and veganism, this time it was Otwarte Klatki (Open Cages). The volunteers showed us some of the actions they held and how we could all help on a local level to promote veganism and help defending animal rights. The last presentation was made by two volunteers presenting Sempre a Frente and EVS. These are aimed at students of various ages, also at us, so it was very interesting and informative, I think that several pupils from Paderewski got back to the guys from these organization to ask for further details about getting involved in it. Of course during the breaks it was possible to visit the stands of all these organizations and sign up as a volunteer for them. This was one of the best days of the well-being week, because a lot of us could benefit from it while helping others, it was an exceptionally great way to get to know more volunteering opportunities!
Few words about(and from) our one and only Comenius Promoting Team… ~Ola P. In December 2014 Comenius group from our school decided to organize „Well-being week” for our students. First, as a freshly formed group of promotion, we had a meeting about the whole event. We planned attractions for a whole week that were supposed to highlight and promote it. Monday was a „Baggy outfit Day” so everybody were supposed to wear oversized sweatshirts and baggy pants. Also on this day we had TaiChi Flashmob. To make sure our schoolmates are well informed and encouraged, on Friday we were wearing baggy outfits ourselves, went to every classroom and invited everybody to participate. On Tuesday we had a special guest – professional sushi maker from our local sushi bar. We organized workshops with him for interested students. The poster informing about that had already been done, so we could concentrate on other events and prepare for Wednesday...And on Wednesday we had a first day of giving apples to students. Our teacher had brought about 30 kilograms of apples so that was a really big amount. We printed some „healthy tips” and stuck them to the apples. Several baskets were given away on each lesson break. Also on that day there was a „Before I die” project in our school. We had two boards and they were both full with amazing dreams and ideas after about an hour. On our lunch break we also had speed-dating to integrate people and just have fun. We mingled with other students and wrote our ideas. Sometimes it is enough to encourage others to do something just by doing it. To keep the students informed we printed QR codes with links to materials about that idea. And we kept on giving apples with healthy tips.Thursday was a „Kindness Day”. To highlight it we went to different classrooms and wrote nice, motivating sentences on whiteboards and spread some little cards with the quotes like „Don't worry, tomorrow is a day too”, “Everything is okay in the end, if it’s not ok, then it is not the end”, “Have a good day” or positive challenges like „Hug person next to you” through a room. We still had many apples left, so we continued the treat. Friday was a „Voluntary service Day” for older students from our school. We also kept on giving apples because „an apple a day keeps a doctor away” :). Generally it was a very positive week in our school and I think a lot people enjoyed it. I think our school society is now more open for this kind of projects . It was an amazing week, full of big smiles on everybody's faces (even on those who had math tests :)).
On
Saturday, February 21st, the whole Polish Animation Team met at the bus station in Lublin. It was the beginning of a whole new adventure, everybody was pumped up with energy and excited about it. We started our journey with a short bus ride to the capital of Poland, Warsaw, where we had had quite a long break to rest before the real journey began. Luckily, we all managed to get on the super fancy bus to Kaunas without any complications, but it wasn’t until the first stop when there occurred some trouble… The driver stopped at a gas station in Lithuania, so we all went out to stretch a bit and inhale some fresh air. Three of us got really interested in the Lithuanian newspapers, so we started reading them, or rather laughing at foreign words, and we lost the track of time. While we were standing there and picking up yet another magazine, our teacher ran into the shop with a frightened and angry look. The bus was about to leave the gas station! If it hadn’t been for someone noticing that we weren’t there, that was where our journey would have ended! But fortunately, apart from a furious bus driver, everyone was alright and got to Kaunas without any further problems. After arriving in Kaunas at the crack of dawn, we got on a bus to Jonava. At the station all our hosts were already waiting for us, all sleepy and tired, because they had to get up really early to pick us up. After saying hi to everyone, we split up and everyone went to their hosts to rest a bit after the long and exhausting journey.
MONDAY The first day of our visit to Lithuania started on Monday from the welcoming meeting at 10 o’clock at the school hall. There we could introduce ourselves and meet other participants. We also could get more familiar with the whole agenda of our visit.
After the meeting, we went to the school museum to take part in an interesting history lesson about our Lithuanian partner school and the town – Jonava. Then, we had a short coffee break to take some rest and later
we attended Lithuanian lessons. We were studying Lithuanian language which was really difficult for us. However, our friends helped us to speak and write those sentences and words. The next point of the day were music and dance lessons. We had an opportunity to sing some traditional songs and perform them together. During the dance classes we were dancing about 5 different dances that Lithuanian people know very well. They are their tradition and we also could be part of their culture. After some physical activity, there came the time for lunch. After the delicious meal, we were presenting our project homework. Each country presented all the stuff that we did within that Module. We could see some presentations, websites, interviews and movies. Since afternoon there was a time for socializing. The participants spent some time together to get know each other and renew old friendships. After that lovely time, we had to return to school to take part in the Folk Dance Evening. We had a lot of fun, practicing Lithuanian dances together. We had a chance to dance it with professional dancers.
After that evening we went back to sleep and got ready for the next day.
TUESDAY Tuesday was our 2nd project day. In the morning we went to school to film a LipDub. We wore clothes such as scarves with some national symbols or flowers and took a Polish flag with us to represent our country proudly. There was a loooot of work to do in order ro record it and a lot of attempts and errors made but finally we did it. This experience was really great because we could participate in a project in which all the students of the school were engaged, and, at the same time, it was irritating, due to the fact that we spent about 4 hours waiting for the camera to make just a few rounds around the school. The best thing about the Lip-Dup was that at the end of it all of us gathered in the school gym and, as it was a birthday of our friend from the Polish team- Alice, we sang her a happy birthday song all together! (Lip-Dub available on YT and FB) After the Lip-Dub we went to the school canteen to eat some lunch, and then got into the bus that drove us to Kaunas. We had a guided tour around the Old Town of Kaunas which is a beautiful city. What was nice is that there were a lot of Polish accents, because Lithuania and Poland has had a long common history. That day we had a free evening so we spent it socializing with students from other countries and celebrating Alice's birthday. We stayed in Kaunas and went to a restaurant to eat pizza. Then we decided to go to a pool bar to play pool, which was a great opportunity to spend some time together laughing and having fun. After that we came back to Jonava and went to sleep to fill ourselves with energy for the next awesome day in Lithuania!
which stood a nice, smiling man- the owner of the shop. Young ladies handed us white aprons and caps which we were supposed to put on. A bit later we all looked as the participants of ,,MasterChef”. A minute passed and young, international cooks walked into the great kitchen at the back of the shop. All stood around the table, where the owner of the shop started showing us the secrets of chocolate production. The workshop ,,Benefits of Sweets. The Life Circle of Chocolate” had just begun. After watching some magic with the most desired liquid substance in the world and a quiz, awarding the most knowledgeable ones, we finally got the tools in our hands. With three different kinds of chocolate, marzipan, M&M’s and biscuits, we competed to prepare the greatest and the most beautiful chocolate cookie, which would be awarded the biggest chocolate bar. After all, Anita got the prize for her amazing cat, composed of dark and white chocolate. When the workshop reached its end, we could all pack and take away our handmade cookies.
WEDNESDAY This day was all about sightseeing. We were about to visit one of the most popular and beautiful places in Lithuania. But before our eyes could be laid on the majestic towers of Trakai castle, we all had to gather first in the school in the morning. Then we jumped onto the bus and hit the road. After a short journey we arrived at the well-known chocolate shop in the centre of Trakai. As we walked through the front door, we could see shelves full of thousand differently coloured chocolate sweets, beside
Then, there was the time to spend some parents’ money in the shop and after leaving there a big amount of euros, the trip could be continued. We visited the Castle of Trakai, where we had the possibility to listen to interesting stories of the medieval times in Lithuania and get to know the history of that place. We also saw the real knight’s armour and medieval coins in the local museum. After we had walked through the old corridors with
wind blowing gently through their holes, we went for some lunch to the restaurant to eat the local specialty called ,,kibinai”. These are traditional pastries filled with mutton and onion and are very popular in Lithuania. Having got filled with ,,kibinai” we jumped back onto the bus and went to the capital city of Lithuania- Vilnius. For two hours we were all in awe of the beauty of the city’s Old Town. The guide took us for a walk through very ambient and romantic narrow streets, showing us the Cathedral, the Presidential Palace or the University of Vilnius. Although the weather was not the most pleasant, the Comenius group once again proved that their good humor can warm up even the coldest nooks of the city. Though the particular sites were not as much interesting and the guide’s speech sometimes “drowned in” the surrounding conversations, the good atmosphere within the Comenius group made this trip very memorable. I can honestly say, wherever you are and whatever you are visiting, if it’s on a Comenius trip, you will remember it as the great experience. Coming back to the storyline, at 7 p.m. we reached The Gate of Dawn, where our trip was over. Tired, but ready for more, we took our seats on the bus and went back to Jonava. But it wasn’t the end. Our Lithuanian friends organized an integration evening for us at school, which they called ,,The Night of Ralys”. That was the mix of different artistic activities, which calmed us down and quietened after the active day. We had the unique possibility to get masks fitting perfectly to our faces, make our own ,,Tinginys” (very popular dessert in Lithuania, sometimes called ,,lazy cake” in English), or change the dark and scary school’s basement into the cave of paintings. It was a wonderful day, full of photos, beautiful landscape and chocolate. With the great satisfaction and the smile on our faces we went to bed at 1 a.m. to rest before the next, exciting day.
THURSDAY Thursday was the last day of our incredible trip to Lithuania. It was more of a “stationary” day, but I cannot say it was boring or lacking in attractions. In the beginning we had some workshop with a psychologist that helped us to figure it out where in the process of accepting ourselves we are and also showed how a positive thinking can change our feelings and actions. After that, together with the guide we went on a trip to visit Jonava. We got a chance to get to know this little town a bit more. The lunch was almost the last on the list of the things to do with the project. However, there was one more thing that was a huge event and involved many students, teachers, schools and even people living in Jonava. The school has a tradition of organizing a Waltz contest for teenagers. I haven’t expected that to be such a wellorganized and entertaining competition. Girls and boys from different classes and schools prepared their own choreographies, clothes, had their hair and makeup done especially for that night. Also, the Comenius project participants had been involved in it. We were asked to prepare our national dances together with traditional folk clothing so that way we could present a small piece of our culture to all the spectators gathered in the school gym.
Personally, I think that pretty much every
single person enjoyed this ceremony and, to be honest, I didn’t expect Lithuanian students to be so positively open and interested in each and every of the dances we presented for them. The Waltz competition finished with a
ceremony of awarding every dancer and class. That was the time to say good bye to some of the countries as they were leaving during the night.
JONAVA —> LUBLIN The last day in Jonava was for sure the saddest day of all. We all got really close to each other, made new friends, as well as seeing our old ones again… Our bus back to Lublin wasn’t leaving until the evening, at 7 p.m. so the trip was nearly one day longer. We all met up in a restaurant to have the last meal together. Then, we all left with our hosts, some of us went to the supermarket to buy some food for the journey, while others just went home to rest and spend some more time with their hosts. We all then met again at the bus station in Jonava. The driver was really patient because he had to wait quite a long time before we all finished hugging and saying goodbye to each other. On that short bus ride to Kaunas we all laughed at the funny moments from the whole trip so we didn’t have to think about leaving our friends… When we got to Kaunas, we met with the teachers and waited for the last bus that was to take us straight to Lublin. We were really looking forward to it, because our teachers told us that it was going to be a similar bus as the one we travelled to Lithuania by, which was very luxurious, with a working bathroom, TV, films, music and the Internet. Finally we saw our bus was there, so we went to put away our luggage, and that was when all our smiles disappeared… It was not what we expected… We didn’t think we would survive, but at last, we got out of the bus, took a leap or ten of fresh air, and all went home to sleep in our amazingly comfy beds.
THE POWER OF TEAMBUILDING Written by Miss Cacace
Whenever you find yourself in a group of people you don’t know, you will feel a little bit intimidated by them at some point, even if you’re an extrovert and outgoing person. Let’s say that have to perform a task that will require you to express your personal opinion on something, you won’t always feel comfortable sharing it with others, especially strangers. And that is when teambuilding comes in handy! Because when all members of a group embarrass themselves in front of the others, they will immediately feel more at ease and will trust the others. The best way to start a group meeting is with a silly dance or some unusual movements that will make you all look funny. One of the things that I can propose is the „Jellyfish”. If you have participated in the Comenius project this year, you must have seen it, because it has come up at some point during the last visits! The point of the game is that the leader of the group shows a few movements, step by step, that are supposed to imitate a jellyfish. In reality, we all just look like weirdos jumping around like we had too much coffee, but it’s a great way for the group to integrate and get everyone on the same position, so nobody feels like they’re worse or better than the others. A similar game to the previous one is the „Banana”, where the rules are analogical to the „Jellyfish”. Here the leader also shows a few moves, like peeling a banana, chopping it, shaking it and drinking it, during which the people themselves have to pretend they are the piece of fruit. During the last parts of this, the participants just end up laughing and having fun, forgetting about how bizarre it may actually look. And when we're talking about teambuilding, it's impossible not to mention our beloved TRAIN OF LOVE! Because this is what has started and ended every Comenius meeting during this school year! The game consists of standing in a circle behind each other, like you are on a train and walking around, singing “we're on the train of love!!!...” I won't give you all the lyrics, because you either have to remember them, or experience it by yourself! It brings the participants together physically, so it's a good idea to do this after a few other games, so no one feels too uncomfortable with others being so close to them. The train of love brings back many memories from Comenius, it's part of the whole spirit of the project, and I hope that everyone who has participated will always remember the wonderful moments that we have experienced together.

Social media (and its impact) by Violetta Panzer
Social Networks Social networks, such as Facebook have become incredibly popular within the last decades, which is the reason why most teenagers spend half of their daytime being online. Due to this huge part of the society using it, the thought of not being existed without having a Facebook account has established in the younger generation´s mind-sets. Do people, who decide not to join the most hyped social network, still exist in our community nowadays?
False sense of Connection The main reason why social networks are used that much, is because the common knowledge that “everybody” has them entails the effect of a sense of belonging. This means, when a teenager´s friends all have a social network account, chances are high that she/he will create an account, too. Probably, the teenager even reinvents him/herself by creating a new identity. Social media sites make it more difficult for humans to distinguish between the meaningful relationships we share worldwide, and the numerous casual relationships formed through social media. By spending too much time and energy on these less meaningful relationships, our most important connections get lost.
Force to join Moreover, the humanity is “forced” to join social networks, because the pressure of many sides exists. For example students ask each other for help, if they get stuck with their work or exchange test-material. Not being part of this community requires a lot of courage, since the sense of belonging might be missing.
Join or not? Social networking sites encourage people to be more public about their personal lives. Intimate details of our lives can be posted so easily and seen by everyone. In fact everyone can be found on social networks and look at private pictures, see what other people are doing and have the opportunity to get an overview over a huge part of their lifes. Certainly, some people appreciate their privacy and do not want their activities or pictures to get published, which is the reason why not “everyone” has a social network account. Respectively to the statement of not being existent without an account, this would mean that it is only possible to be alive by joining a social network. However not having a social network account ensures humans anonymity in a way. This decision of staying anonymous gets easily interpreted as being “not existent”, because it is not possible to find information of those people online.

Pozwala to pozyskać nasze dane.
Do napisania strony obsługującej ciastka nie wystarczy znajomość przykładowego HTTP, potrzebujemy znajomości Javy ponieważ większość skryptów do obsługi cookies właśnie jej używa.
