Featured Artist: Amber McConnell Interviewer: Cassie Lindeberg What role does the artist have in society? To inspire the imagination, and to teach every new generation the value of true creativity. Keeping souls enchanted with new imagery. How has your practice changed over time? I started with pencil doodles while passing free time, then moved to painting. In my painting practice I have grown from cartoons and childlike art to realistic. What art do you most identify with? The darker side of art, the side not visible with out an artist eye. To feel a piece of art rather than to only see it. What work do you most enjoying doing? Custom work for clients, the pieces that mean more than just a pretty painting to match the curtains. I enjoy giving them something unchanging that will be there when they want to relive a good memory. What themes do you pursue? Personal pieces, Usually beloved pets or sport themes. Something that means something special to the person that is receiving it. What’s your favorite personal art work? My first experience with a pet that had passed away very unexpectedly. I was very nervous to start it and procrastinated more than necessary, In the end the little girl was so pleased to have Rex hanging on her wall the way she had remembered growing up with him. Describe a real-life situation that inspired you? Seeing a high school classmate's art in a local gallery. We grew up doodling together on the school bus and shared the same art teacher. If he could do it I could do it. What jobs have you done other than being an artist? Banking, Makeup artist, Receptionist, Model, Sales. What is an artistic outlook on life? Beauty in everything, even in the darkest hours with the right eye you can make amazing art. Anything can be something else, creativity doesn't belong in a cage and to change one thing into another is a natural talent. Who do you feel is your biggest supporter of your art? My girls that want to follow in their mothers foot steps. They are great mini artists and make me proud everyday. My father who promotes my art and has pushed me into challenges that I wouldn't have known I could accomplish so well. My talent grows with every new project and I have an amazing support group that backs me everyday.

Featured Photographer: Justin Manning Interview By: Cassie Lindeberg

Did you go to school for your photography or are you more a self-taught and learn by experience type? I went to school for Computer Networking Technology and graduated in 2006 from Remington College so I have a background in computer and editing software but am self taught on the photography. How long have you been in the photography business? I started my own business in February of 2006 after being laid off from FedEx Freight in Little Rock. What was the first person/event/ or sport that you were the photographer at as a professional photographer? Arkansas State football game back in 2006. If you could get an all-expense paid trip to anywhere for a dream shoot what would that dream shoot consist of and where would it be? I'd love to do a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit shoot in Fiji or even a surf board event there as well. What is your favorite thing about Central Arkansas that you involve your photography around? High school and college football!! Between models, sports, and vehicles what seems to give you the most happiness when you get the notice that your work has been published? I get happiness out of any publication that I receive. I was taught long ago to never turn down a good gig especially if it gets your recognition of accomplishments in what you love. What is your favorite photography accessory besides your camera? Probably my 300mm 2.8 lens, it’s the work horse and gets the job down day in and day out!! How important is Photoshop with your final edited images? I don’t as Photoshop as much as Photo Mechanic and Adobe Lightroom 5 but I do use Photoshop CS5 for my collage work and some other editing. I have to use Photo Mechanic usually at event atmospheres to caption and transmit photos in a timely manner. So to answer the question I really don’t know what us photographers would do without Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Lightroom!! Who are what inspires you the most in your photography? I have a list a mile long on “Who” inspires me and I know I probably don’t have enough room on a page to name them all but I could’ve never got where I’m at today with help and inspiration from a few people to name a few. Thresa Hunter is probably the main one that motivated me to do more in my photography skills and to become who I am today. Nelson Chenault, Jimmy Jones, Luke Matheson, Mark Wagner, Josh Briggs/ Tony Lenahan (Saline Courier newspaper), Mark Kehner (Glen Rose head football coach) What are some things about yourself you would like people to know about you outside of your photography? In my spare time away from photography I usually always still have my camera with me everywhere I go but I love to spend time with my family/friends. My dad lives in South Carolina and I usually try to go out there at least 2-3 times a year. We usually schedule a hunting trip every year in Ohio towards the last part of November. Other than that I love to hunt, fish, have fun and enjoy life!! Justin Manning Website- www.jaysphotodesign.com Contact Number- 501-317-1756 Address- 6106 Pointview Rd. Benton, AR 72019

Your Self Image And Success by successu7 People want to make money, and get rich, happy, etc. Many people have not scratched the surface of success, so they simply do not know that they must change to succeed. The biggest denominator that makes people succeed or fail is usually down to self image and values, and belief systems. Change the image, change the results. The self image is a crucial subject. How you think of yourself determines who you think you are. For most materialistic people who have not looked at personally developing themselves do not realize that our beliefs determine our actions, and those actions will either take us to our goal or away from our goals. Someone who is or has been on welfare, may have enjoyed the benefits of welfare, but has not realized the cost to how they view there own worthiness. The doctor with a doctor self image will treat patients and get them well, whereas a doctor with a poor self image may soon find they are looking for other occupations! This may seem hard to grasp, especially if you think that there is some precarious higher power that dishes out abundance to whom it pleases. God helps those who help themselves. Your image of yourself determines your values, and your actions. A doctor heals, whereas a soldier wants to save its own sides people, and eliminate the enemy. I remember speaking to a friend recently. When giving him brief coaching to help him get more out of life, I realized that even though he wanted more success, his self image was one of being one of the crowd; not to rise, and not to move forward on goals because of fear of ridicule. This type of self image destroys dreams, and if the self image is not changed, then the results stay same as today and yesterday. The key to change is awareness, and it begins with questions. Who am I? What am I? Who are my top 5 friends? What do I value most? Taking an inventory about yourself shows more about your self image. The next step is to consider who you want to be? Look at role models, after all there must be someone who has achieved what you want to achieve. Take a look at what they do, how they do it. If you do not have immediate access to this person, then find their biography or as much information about them. Modeling your role model is a great way to get yourself in a position to think and act as they do. Modeling the best is a great way to achieve the success you want to achieve. Your self image is a crucial part of the process of change. If you have not achieved a result before, then it is going to require change. As your self image changes, your thoughts change, your actions change, and ultimately you get the results you want.

Tell us about yourself: Well of course my name is Cassie and despite what the shoot may require me to shoot in I am a down to the bone country girl. I have an amazing man who always supports me and blessed with some of the most amazing, crazy and country kids any momma could ever have! Tell us about your education, like if you attended fashion modeling courses? When I was sixteen I was put through a year of classes through the Arkansas Talent Modeling Schooling then when I was twenty one I was in Excel Modeling School. What made you want to start modeling? I actually started due to a bet that my brother had made when I was fifteen. He was holing a grudge that his ex left him and he bet me that I couldn't beat her in beauty pageant with the terms being if I win he bought me new mud tires and if he won I had to detail his truck for the rest of the year which was six more months. Needless to say I won then started from there never of course believing I would make it this far with the industry. Who are your biggest supporters as in you being a model? My biggest and most important supporter is actually my kids and right behind them is the great guy that I have in my life Cody Phillips! What is the best and worst thing in the modeling industry? The best in the industry is the opportunities that open behind every door depending on through a photographer, clothes designer, makeup artist and everyone in between. Now the worst part has to be the times I have to spend away from my family even though through it all my family completely supports me. Dream shoot would be where? My dream shoot would be in the Caribbean. I would want to do a beach shoot and an underwater shoot cause I think it would be absolutely beautiful as well as a once in a lifetime opportunity. How do you communicate with people on a professional basis? In the modeling industry you communicate in many different ways. There is of course the social networking, original postal mail, email, and countless minutes on the phone. What do you hope to accomplish with your modeling? I want to go as far as I can by exploring as many opportunities that I can as far as what I want for myself. Now also though I try to always help out other females who are wanting to get into the modeling industry as well by showing them doors that can be walked through to make a start as far as contacts with great photographers, agencies, open contest and any tips as far as helping get started then of course I also do what I can to build clientele to photographers that I have worked with! Do you have any limitations? I do not do any type of nudity, porn or anything I feel I would have to hide from my children. What is your your availability, would you travel, and what are your rates? I have open availability due to the fact that I have flexible hours with my job. I will travel however after a certain amount of miles between my residence and the shoot location travel expenses are arranged. My rates range from TFP which is time for prints and up all depending on location, concept, what all is supplied for the shoot, if editing is done by myself or the photographer, what all is required from me at the shoot and then most important where the images will be used after the shoot.
