Anger The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. Psalm 145:8 A God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness. . . Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosoms of fools. Ecclesiastes 7:9 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly. Proverbs 14:17 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city. Proverbs 16:32 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife. Proverbs 15:18 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. Psalm 37:8 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go: Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul. The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression. Proverbs 19:11 It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman. Proverbs 21:19 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. Matthew 5:22 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy? Proverbs 27:4 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee. Proverbs 25:21–22 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Colossians 3:8

Belief To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. Acts 10:43 12


For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Acts 16:31 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. Romans 9:33 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. John 1:12 13


Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. Mark 9:23 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. John 3:36 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 1 Peter 2:6 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:18 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. John 6:35 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. Charity Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. Psalm 41:1–2 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again. Proverbs 19:17 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just. Luke 14:13–14 16


Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. Luke 12:33 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. Luke 6:38 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty. The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself. Proverbs 11:24–25 17


He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour. Psalm 112:9 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. 1 Corinthians 13:13 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate. 1 Timothy 6:17–18 Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse. Proverbs 28:27 He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he. Proverbs 14:21 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day. Isaiah 58:10 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. Mark 10:21 And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hand which thou doest. Children And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Acts 16:31 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Acts 2:39 And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children. Isaiah 54:13 Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. Psalm 128:3 21


For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thy offspring. Isaiah 44:3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. Psalm 127:3–5 Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers. Proverbs 17:6

Children’s Duties Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. Ephesians 6:1–3 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Colossians 3:20 Honour thy father and thy mother. Luke 18:20 Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father. Proverbs 28:7 23


Cursed be he that setteth light by his father or his mother. Deuteronomy 27:16 Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father. Leviticus 19:3 Honour thy father and thy mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee. Deuteronomy 5:16 My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother. Proverbs 6:20 A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke. Proverbs 13:1 24


My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. Proverbs 1:10 A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent. Proverbs 15:5 Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right. Proverbs 20:11 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
