Consider how easy it is for you to get to the property from where you live, as living further away will involve more time, cost and hassle when carrying out maintenance, performing inspections, meeting with tenants etc. As a landlord, you will be on call 24/7 to your tenants should they need to speak to you, as well as neighbours who may have concerns about your tenants’ behaviour - is this something you are comfortable with and able to fit into your lifestyle? It’s also important to remember that when you go on holiday, if you are outside New Zealand for more than 21 consecutive days, you must appoint an agent to manage your rental property in your absence or risk a penalty of $1,000.

Hayden Clarke Branch Manager 027 407 0071 Previously ranked as one of the top five commercial salespeople for a nationwide real estate company, Hayden has proven himself to be one of the industry’s top performers. Starting out as the Office Sales Manager at Barfoot & Thompson Kerikeri, he has now moved to the role of Branch Manager. Prior to real estate, Hayden was trained as a Marine Engineer Officer in the Royal New Zealand Navy before completing a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) at the University of Auckland.
