BCFN YOUNG EARTH SOLUTIONS! ~ BCFN YES! 2014 ~ CALL FOR SELECTION OF IDEAS FROM UNIVERSITY STUDENTS TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABILITY IN THE AGRIFOOD INDUSTRY
1. The Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition (BCFN Foundation) The Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition Foundation(“BCFN Foundation” or “BCFN”) is a center for analysis, study and proposals. Its objective is the in-depth study of significant topics linked to food and nutrition on a global scale. It works by gathering experiences and qualified skills worldwide and fostering an ongoing, open dialog using a rigorously multidisciplinary approach. For more information, visit: http://www.barillacfn.com
2. Premise: The Milan Protocol The "Milan Protocol" will unite citizens and institutions in the pursuit of a single objective, oriented to dealing with the issue of food system sustainability along three lines: 1. Reduce food waste 50% by 2020; 2. Promote sustainable agriculture by enacting agrarian reforms, opposing financial speculation on foodstuffs and limiting the use of food-based biofuels; 3. Promote healthy lifestyles and combat obesity, emphasizing food education from early childhood. The Milan Protocol initiative was launched during the 2013 BCFN International Forum edition . A draft was presented to all participants at the 2013 International Forum. Our hope now is to get civil society and experts involved so that they contribute to the process of drafting the document and have them present the final version to the leaders who will be meeting at Expo 2015. The movement promoting the Protocol will attempt to encourage governments and international organizations to undertake coordinated actions against global problems such as food waste, the abuse of natural resources and the ordeals of malnutrition and obesity. Acting to bring to an end a world in which malnutrition and famine co-exist with limitless waste of food; a world in which the production of biofuels and feed abuses the use of land and water for essential crops; a world where obesity is relentlessly growing, while at the same time it is torn apart by hunger. Not only is this change possible, but it is an ethical and moral imperative. The Protocol asks its signatories to participate in varied volunteer initiatives and represents a unique opportunity to join together for the common objective of ending these threats to the planet and its inhabitants. On these issues, which are now urgent for individuals and society as a whole, BCFN YES! wants to encourage young people to develop ideas and propose innovative and sustainable solutions. Visit the site: www.milanprotocol.com 3. BCFN YOUNG EARTH SOLUTIONS! (BCFN YES!)
