International Response

 International Community responds to East Africa Region

drought distress  KCA receives development vision of Kanini Kaseo Women SHG.  KCA inspired by human recovery programs of Barka Foundation in designing Kanini Kaseo intervention.  Plus Dane & Partner organisation mount drought appeal function in October 2011 as part of annual Black History month supported by the Kenya High Commission, London


Initial Funding  £3,200 raised given to KCA for drought aid in Kenya  Donation dedicated to Work for Food programme at

Kanini Kaseo Women SHG on 9th February 2012.  KCA conceives innovative intervention towards distressed and needy communities view You Tube video “Kanini Kaseo (small &beautiful”. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlCaKd6rCVl  Three Trustees of repute and integrity appointed  Tools, rations & accounting agreed with SHG.


Impact

 Tools improved capacity  Rations provided empowerment  Output doubled  Water retention improved crop yield.  Community Based Organisation (CBO) of over 100

SHG with over 3,000 members formed by June 2012


Baka Foundation visits Kyunyu  Barbra and Tomasz make two week visit to Kenya and

Ewa four weeks to Kenya and Ethiopia.  Meetings with Diplomats, Government Official, Social Economy Sector in city and rural areas.  Travel to Kanini Kaseo Women SHG first Social Integration Centre link to the Global Barka Foundation for Mutual Help concept in Africa.  Tomasz, Barbra and Ewa cultivate and weed African soil in solidarity with Africa’s rural community

Second Level of Development

 Two kits given to women SHG and other to Orphanage.  Three groups growing vegetables under irrigation and

inspiring new hope  Women thrift, determination, resilience and persistence to own empowerment noted by community, local and international organisations.  Project supported and part of (INISE) International Network of Innovative Social Entrepreneurship


Increase in Partnerships  Local NGO’s extending support to SHG.  Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI)

offering training on marginal land farming. KARI introducing crop diversity to SHG and community. KARI committed to purchase farm produce Twiga Chemicals training on pesticides and crop storage Exchange visit from other districts/Counties (Tinganga)


1,000 litre Drip Irrigation capacity  Increasing crop area from 30 sq m to 300 sq m  Seedlings capacity from 1,000 to 10,000.  Meeting own daily needs and commercial sales.  Create permanent income through out the year.  Diversify crop mix.


Centre for Farming Excellence

 Support by (KARI) Kenya Agricultural Research

Institute, Twiga Chemicals Ltd, MASHAV – State of Israel development Agency.  Establish and create centre for farming excellence.  Influence communities towards alternatives in farming and crop diversity.  Influence both Government and AID Agencies on multiple possibilities and opportunities.


Irrigation Capability  Sink bore hole for both domestic and irrigation    

farming. Include Amboseli Livestock & Farmers CBO if funding enough Up grade irrigation methods to include sprinkle as well as other forms. Have all the Self Help Group (SHG) farms under irrigation. Ultimate empowerment of the community in Food Security and Self Sufficiency. Flag point of marginal community empowerment.


Drilling Rig – Watertec 40

 Replicate Kanini Kaseo experience in marginal areas.  Acquire own Dando Watertec 40 bore hole drilling rig

from Dando Drilling International Ltd.  Rig to cover marginal community needs of Kenya, Southern Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania.  Enabling partnership and meeting point nurturing human joy and cultural values between Europe and Africa.


Ultimate Goal

 Drill borehole for drinking and commercial irrigation

farming for marginal communities.  Create self sufficiency and commercial sales  Develop centre for Social Economy, Innovation and Enterprise on 5 acre plot at Kanini Kaseo.  Transform current system of aid hand outs into developmental support
