Showcasing Northern Scotland with all its beautiful beaches, historical ruins and pretty fishing villages, the North Coast 500 coastal road is a journey like no other. Scotland’s answer to Route 66 is now a designated tourist route around the Northern Highlands taking in amazing coastal scenery full of lochs and uninhabited islands. On our way north we take an Eastern route via Dundee, and travel through the Cairngorms National Park. On our return, we stick to the west coast with 2 nights on the Isle of Skye. A fabulous holiday with nonstop scenery.
Thursday Into Scotland and on to our overnight hotel, the 3-star Buchanan Arms in Drymen.
Friday Beautiful scenery today as we climb into the Highlands and the Cairngorm National Park. Our lunch time stop in Aviemore, a Highland base with plenty of shops and food options. We then continue to the very North of Scotland with a short stop in the small but lively town of Tain. From here onwards we are on the North Coast 500 route. Our hotel is the Pentland Hote in Thurso, and we spend 2 nights here.
Saturday We catch the ferry to Orkney where we are met by our guide. We have a full tour of Orkney taking in amongst other things Skara Brae, an amazing neolithic village that lay buried by sand for 4000 years and the delightful Italian Chapel built by Italian POWs.
Sunday We continue on the North Coast 500 Route with miles and miles of costal scenery as we head along Scotland’s most northern coast and enjoy dramatic ocean views. We will take plenty of photo stops, especially where the impressive white sand beaches are at their most impressive. Our hotel for the night is the Gairloch Highland Lodge, nestled beside the bay overlooking quiet, secluded, beaches. Our dinner is a 500m walk away at the Old Inn Pub.
Monday A final part of the North Coast 500 takes us by more dramatic scenery on our way to Attadale Gardens. The gardens were built in 1755 and its gardens include a Water Garden, Rhododendron Walk, sunken garden and a Japanese garden. From here we continue to the Isle of Skye and the Dunollie Hotel in Broadford for 2 nights.
Tuesday A more relaxing day today as we travel via the west coast of Skye to Dunvegan Castle and Gardens for a visit. This was the seat of the Clan Macleod and is the oldest continually occupied castle in Scotland. The castle has won visitor awards, and it is a Highland estate steeped in history and clan legend which also has beautiful formal gardens. We then complete a circular route as we visit Portree for a short stop Portree is the Island’s Capital and lies in is a picturesque natural harbour that is sheltered with great views to sea.
Wednesday We start our journey south with more scenery as we pass lochs and have views of Ben Nevis on the way to a short stop in Fort William. Then through Glencoe before making a stop at Loch Lomond Shores. Then onto our overnight hotel, the 4-star Dryfesdale Country House Hotel. The hotel sits amid 5 acres of magnificent grounds with stunning views of the Scottish countryside.
Thursday We say goodbye to Scotland and return home.

Monday All day to explore Canterbury including a visit to the famous Cathedral (only a short walk from our hotel!). The cathedral has awe-inspiring medieval architecture that commands the skyline and dates to 597AD.
Tuesday To Leeds Castle where we arrive before it opens to the public and enjoy a private guided tour of the castle. We traverse secret passageways and immerse ourselves in the opulent grandeur of the castle that was transformed by King Henry VIII for the use of his doomed wife Katherine of Aragon. There is then free time to explore the 500 acre gardens at your own pace, meandering through vibrant blooms, and maybe tackle the maze! We leave early afternoon for home.

We haven’t included entry, as it is not advised for those with limited mobility, however we will be here long enough to give you time to visit. If you would prefer to stay in the village, there is a myriad of shops and cafes to explore.

Returning after two years, we again visit this fabulous hotel. From the hotel we can get to grips with the region’s famed fishing villages, from the historic Boscastle to the foodie-friendly Padstow, with a stroll around Clovelly’s car-free cobbled streets for good measure. Thursday Our first taste of Cornwall as we visit Polperro, where picturesque and tightly packed cottages appear to tumble down to the harbour. Polperro involves a walk into town so if you would prefer, you can be dropped in the fishing village of Looe instead.

A | A choice to begin the day between West Bay OR Bridport (Market Day Wednesday). West Bay is a charming fishing village that has enjoyed a surge in popularity since Broadchurch was filmed there. Bridport is a thriving, quirky and cultural market town with a fantastic antiques quarter. Then to Lyme Regis which boasts breathtaking scenery and a special mystique, it’s historic Cobb and harbour are iconic features. We conclude the day with scenic drive following Chesil Beach, one of the most iconic sights on the Jurassic Coast.
B | A great circular tour today which begins by taking the Sandbank’s Ferry to the scenic ‘isle’ of Purbeck. Before catching the ferry, we do a circular tour of Sandbank’s and view some of the most expensive houses in the country. After the ferry we pass through Studland Nature Reserve and make a lunch time stop in Swanage, which has a promenade backed by attractions with great views. We then make a short stop at the perfectly rounded bay of Lulworth Cove set in picturesque scenery. Before returning to our hotel, we take a ride onto the Isle of Portland with great views.
Friday We head for home, travelling through the New Forest with a stop in Lyndhurst.

B | A FREE DAY to explore Chester and in the afternoon, we enjoy a cream tea back at the hotel.
C | Scenic tour of the Isle of Anglesey with its stunning landscapes, unspoilt coastlines and picturesque towns and villages. Following a quick stop at Llanfair PG, (the longest placename in Britain!) we take a circular tour of the island including a photo stop overlooking Bull Bay. We pass through Llanfachraeth, Cemaes Bay & Amlwch on the way to our stop in Beaumaris, a beautifully positioned resort of Victorian character.
Friday We return with a stop in Ironbridge Gorge, now a UNESCO World Heritage site. It has a thriving tourist trade not to mention the world-famous iron bridge itself, majestic over the River Severn.
Sparkling Tour of Historic Kent, Folkestone
Experience some of Kent’s highlights and hidden gems on this new tour. We visit the grand Walmer Castle to experience its history and have a guided tour of the Gardens. We have a guided tour and tasting at Chapel Down Winery which is famed for its sparkling wines amongst others. We also visit medieval Canterbury, charming Whitstable and Cobbled Rye.
Monday We travel to Kent with a lunch break in Windsor. Tuesday To Walmer Castle & Gardens where we have time to explore the castle and have a guided tour of the gardens. It has a fascinating history including the Duke of Wellington as a former resident. The 8-acre gardens feature herbaceous gardens, pretty blooms and mature trees. Free time in Folkestone on our return. Wednesday We drive across the mysterious Romney Marshes and visit the town of Rye, rising above the marshes and home to a myriad of art, curiosities and unique shopping. Then to Chapel Down Winery where we enjoy a guided tour of the vineyard, learning how the wine is produced, before a tutored tasting.
Thursday To the north coast of Kent and Whitstable which has pebbled beaches and charming shops and pubs. Then to Canterbury, a walled city that has been hosting visitors for over 1000 years with a huge mix of independent shops and of course the famous cathedral.
Friday We return home with a stop in Guilford and a scenic drive back across the Hog’s Back.

Monday We experience the sheer beauty of the Gower. Our first stop is the Gower Heritage Centre which offers crafts, a watermill, and a museum. Later we have a tour of the Mill and then a local guide joins us on our coach for a two-hour tour of the best that the Gower has to offer.
Tuesday All day in Tenby, a historic seaside resort with natural charm, narrow streets, harbour, and beautiful beaches.
Wednesday First to Carmarthen where there is good shopping and Wednesday is market day. Then to the National Botanic Garden of Wales, where the Great Glasshouse houses some of the most endangered plants on the planet which come from six areas of the world: California, Australia, Canary Islands, Chile, South Africa and the Mediterranean Basin.

Wednesday Following the coast road northwards today, with its picturesque villages that cling to the sides of the hills rising above the blue waters of Cardigan Bay, we make our way to Aberystwyth, nestling between three hills and two beaches. Here we have the option (not included) of taking the Vale of Rheidol Railway on a return journey to Devil’s Bridge and back. Or spend your time in Aberystwyth itself which has much to offer including shopping, promenade, cliff railway and an observatory.
Thursday Up the Teifi Valley to Cenarth, a conservation village huddled around spectacular waterfalls. We then continue up the valley to the National Wool Museum where we enjoy an informative guided tour and let the story of wool weave its magic in this unique working museum!
Friday Home with a stop at The Mumbles, undoubtedly one of the finest seaside villages in the UK.

A | We make a morning stop in Betws-y-Coed, in its magical setting with a distinctly Alpine feel. We continue, viewing Snowdon from the spectacular Llanberis Pass to our lunchtime stop in Caernarfon. Caernarfon is home to Wales’ most famous castle, and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has narrow town centre streets and a stylishly redeveloped waterfront.
B | Scenic tour of the Isle of Anglesey with its stunning landscapes, unspoilt coastlines and picturesque towns and villages. Following a quick stop at Llanfair PG (the longest placename in Britain!) we take a circular tour of the island including a photo stop overlooking Bull Bay. We pass through Llanfachraeth, Cemaes Bay & Amlwch on the way to our stop in Beaumaris, a beautifully positioned resort of Victorian character. Monday We return home with a stop in Shrewsbury, which has nearly 800 listed buildings all built on a huge loop in the River Severn.

Saturday To London and the choice between being dropped close to Kensington (for the museums) or Park Lane (closer to the shops). The coach will pick up from Park Lane at 1330 and then Kensington at 1345 to be at the Royal Albert Hall before 1400. The show is at 1500 and we will check into our nearby hotel afterwards. Please remember that dinner is not included but the hotel has a restaurant and there are many options nearby.
Sunday At 1030 the coach will depart for Covent Garden, or if you would prefer, stay close to the hotel. The coach will depart Covent Garden at 1700 and the hotel at 1730 for home. A | We first make our way to the unique sight of The Kelpies, the world’s largest, equine sculptures which are monumental tributes to the horsepower heritage vital to the early industries of central Scotland. During our time here we have a 30-minute guided tour. In the afternoon we experience the Falkirk Wheel on a boat ride, one of Scotland’s top tourist attractions. The Wheel, built in 1998, uses 1200 tonnes of steel and was a solution to overcome the 11 locks originally connecting the Forth Clyde and Union Canals. It rises an impressive 35 meters and is the only one of its kind in the world.
B | To Scone Palace and we join our expert guide for a ‘bonnie’ private tour of the majestic Scone Palace, a living residence of the Earl and Countess of Mansfield and the historic crowning site of Scottish Kings, including Robert the Bruce and Charles II. We immerse ourselves in the tales of royalty, from the legendary Stone of Destiny to the echoes of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, as you explore the palace’s stunning Gothic Revival architecture. Then free time to marvel at the opulent gardens, home to a rare collection of pineapples, and challenge ourselves in the star-shaped maze, a labyrinthine puzzle designed to both bewilder and fascinate. C | To Edinburgh for a visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia to follow in the footsteps of Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela plus many more including the Queen! The remainder of the day is free to explore Edinburgh. Friday We return home.

A journey of discovery visiting no less than six of Scotland’s Western Isles! Some are linked by causeway and there are ferry rides between others amidst stunning and ever-changing scenery. There are also great views to be had on the mainland as we pass through the Highlands on our way North and Glencoe, viewing Ben Nevis, on our return south. For the first time on this tour, we also spend 2 nights in Stirling and there will be time to explore this small city with a big history from our central 4-star hotel.
Tuesday We travel to Scotland and our hotel for one night, the Golden Lion in central Stirling.
Wednesday Great scenery all day as we travel through the Highlands, Cairngorms and Speyside and on to Inverness where we make a lunch time stop. Inverness is the ‘Highland Capital’ on the banks of the River Ness and it boasts a host of historic buildings and independent shopping. More loch views as we continue to Ullapool to catch our late afternoon crossing from Ullapool to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, our base for the next two nights at the Caladh Inn.
Thursday A wonderful, guided tour around the Isle of Lewis, with a local guide. We view amazing scenery as well as visit a traditional Blackhouse, amazingly still lived in until recently, ‘Scotland’s Stonehenge’ at Callanish and an historic ‘Broch’ at Carloway.
Friday A day of island-hopping when we travel south through Lewis and Harris, with magnificent beaches and scenery throughout. We continue by ferry to the Isle of Benbecula and our base for the next two nights staying at the Dark Island Hotel in Liniclate.
Saturday We have a local guide on board for our tour of Benbecula and South Uist with its Bonnie Prince Charlie connections.
Sunday A long but rewarding day today as we catch the ferry from Lochmaddy to Uig on the northern tip of the Isle of Skye. We then take a wonderful, scenic journey across Skye, cross Skye Bridge, view Ben Nevis and pass through Glencoe, and on to our overnight stop at the Rob Roy Hotel in Aberfoyle.
