Buyer’s guide for rugby helmet – headgear Since the early 1990s, rugby players have taken to wearing padded headgear. This is intended to protect from cuts and head injuries that can occur from incidental contact in tackles or at rucks. While it is an optional piece of equipment, it is highly recommended for any player that makes a lot of hard tackles and contact or plays in tournaments. The headgears are designed to adapt precisely to the shape of the head. It’s a nylon protection with inserted expanded foam pads to guard against damaged ears whilst ensuring full hearing capability. The rugby head protector can be adjusted using a binding located on the back of the helmet. Ventilation holes are included to reduce head overheating.
