The Body in the Library A. It was a dark and stormy night. Inside the Barrington Area Library, a lively crowd gathered to fete the artist whose works were on exhibit in the Gallery. More visitors waited in the lobby for a Second Fridays concert to begin. The librarian at the Popular Materials Desk had just answered a patron’s question about making taffy apples (after all, Halloween was just around the corner) when a thud was heard. More than 1,600 children participated in this year’s Summer Library Club. 620 kids received a free book for reaching their goal, and more than 2,500 prizes were awarded in all. This year, our championship trophy travels to Barbara Rose Elementary School, which had the highest number of students to join and finish the club. Principal Carlson did a fantastic job encouraging students to send him postcards about their progress, a perfect fit for our “Have Book, Will Travel” theme. Congratulations to all our summer readers and thanks to their families and caregivers for supporting reading and library activities over the summer!

If you have been wondering about the e-reader and e-book experience, we’ve got a handy way for you try it out. We have e-readers you may borrow on a first come, first served basis. Our friendly Adult Services staff will even download an e-book of your choice onto the device. Then you can take it home and give it a “test read” for two weeks.
