Instructions for Emergency Oxygen Skills Evaluation Provide student with: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Oxygen cylinder Regulator w/ o-ring Nasal cannula Non-rebreather mask Bag mask Training manikin or student volunteer

Oxygen equipment and bag mask will be unassembled. The student will prepare the emergency oxygen cylinder for use. Using the Emergency Oxygen Administration Skills Sheet, monitor student’s ability to assemble the cylinder and use various delivery devices. The cylinder should be assembled so that no air is leaking. The student should be able to complete each skill demonstration within five minutes. Students will demonstrate: 1. Assemble an oxygen system, connect and use a nasal cannula 2. Prepare and use a non-rebreather* mask with the correct flow rate 3. Prepare bag mask* for use with emergency oxygen Maintain the Emergency Oxygen Administration Skills Sheet with written test and course roster for 3 years after course. * If using a dual flow regulator (without a full control option), use the ‘low’ setting for nasal cannula and the ‘high’ setting for the non-rebreather and bag mask testing.
