A Message from Our Director
Dear Residents:
We’re thrilled to invite you to celebrate the grand opening of our newly renovated Clark Island Recreation Area! After two years of careful planning and hard work, we’re excited to unveil the transformed space this spring. What started as an idea to refresh the skate park has evolved into an innovative hub for fitness, fun and nature.
Whether you want to break a sweat, enjoy the outdoors or simply spend time with family and friends, Clark Island has something for everyone. The skate park has been replaced, and other new amenities include a bike ribbon, fitness court for agility workouts and outdoor classes, a pollinator garden and fishing outcrops along the river. This transformation was made possible in part by a $600,000 Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and a $50,000 grant from BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois.
You are invited to attend our ribbon cutting and community party from 10 a.m. to noon on April 12 and see for yourself how the park at 411 S. River St. has been transformed. You’ll be among the first to try out the new amenities, enjoy family-friendly activities and celebrate the hard work that brought this vision to life.
The celebration will kick off with our popular annual egg hunt starting promptly at 10 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., join us for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, where we’ll officially unveil the revitalized park. For cycling enthusiasts, the bike pump track is ready and waiting for riders to test their skills on the newly designed course. The skate park offers smooth ramps and surfaces for both experienced skaters and beginners. Whether you’re into yoga, strength training or agility drills, the fitness court offers a range of exercises for all fitness levels. And if fishing is your thing, don’t miss the new stone outcropping stations along the Fox River—perfect for casting a line and relaxing by the water.
Be sure to try out all the new amenities! Bring your bikes, skateboards, workout shoes and fishing poles for free demos on the bike pump track, skate park, fitness court and fishing outcrop with our instructors from 10 a.m. to noon.
The festivities won’t stop there! Activities for all ages include face painting, bounce houses, yard games and a craft. Capture a memory with a photo from this special day at the booth featuring the bunny and our beloved Bruce the Spruce mascot! We can’t wait to see you and share this exciting milestone with our wonderful Batavia community! For more details on this event, see page 8.
Stay tuned for more park district updates. This summer we’ll be launching a new website, designed to make it easier for you to connect with us and access everything you need, 24/7!
All the best,
Allison Niemela, CPRP Executive Director

New Horizons Preschool is a program of the Batavia Park District that was founded in 1996 to provide young children with the skills and experiences that will help them thrive in Kindergarten and beyond.
New Horizons offers a unique experience of providing an opportunity for social and emotional growth through a play-based experience. Building self-esteem and confidence is the base of our curriculum, allowing the children to be successful. This curriculum sets us apart from other area preschools.
A typical day may include dress-up, reading books, science experiments, building fun objects, puzzles, crafts and music, plus play time outside on our own playground or indoors in our own gym.
Students benefit from these experiences because they gain skills in socialization, fine and large motor skills, as well as cognitive development, plus they have fun while doing it. We nurture independent, creative thinkers.
New Horizons Preschool has a student-teacher ratio of 14-to-2.

Celebrating 50 Years
March 1-July 20 • All ages
Opening reception: Feb. 28, 6-8 p.m.

Happy Birthday to the Batavia Depot Museum! Throw back with us to the groovy days of 8-tracks, corduroy and the Bee Gees with a new exhibit celebrating 50 years of Batavia’s landmark home for history.
Inspired by Walter Kauth’s home video “The Museum a Community Built: October 10, 1973,” this new exhibit shows the incredible impact a community can have when people work together. From the first conversations about the need for a local history museum, to cutting the ribbon on opening day, many Batavians had a hand in making the museum a reality. This exhibit will tell their stories through photographs, recollections, original video and even some of the tools used in the restoration of the old depot.

Program Refund Policy
Refunds will be considered for the following reasons:
• Class cancellations/Park District closings will result in a refund that will be applied to the household account as a credit towards future registrations. Upon request, refunds can also be paid by check or issued directly to a credit card if the request is made within 45 days of the original purchase. If you wish to apply this refund to another class, you must notify the Park District immediately.
• Refund requests received 5 business days before the first class will be accepted, less a service charge. If application is received less than 5 business days prior to start of program and it causes enrollment to fall below minimum and the spot cannot be filled; no refund will be given
• Refund requests received after the second meeting of the program will not receive a refund with the exception of a written medical excuse prior to completion of the program. A $5 service charge and program supply costs will be deducted from the amount of refund for each program, including medical reasons. Medical excuses will result in a pro-rated refund based upon the number of classes held prior to the date listed on the physician’s excuse. If program falls below the minimum required and the spot cannot be filled, no refund will be given.
• Applications for refunds for one-day programs (with the exception of Klub Fun) must be submitted 5 business days prior to class starting in order to receive a refund. Refunds will not be accepted after the class has ended.
• All refunds will be issued in the form of how payment was originally made when a refund application is approved before the class starts. Refunds to a credit card can only be issued within 45 days of the original purchase.
• All refunds applied for are subject to a $5 service charge. Instances where fees are $10 or less, the service charge will be based on 10%.
• Kids’ Club, Klub Fun, New Horizons and Camp SUN-sational participants are subject to different terms of refund and withdrawal policy. See parents’ manuals or description for more information.
• Refunds will be applied to any outstanding balance owed on any programs or activities.
Inclement Weather Policy
For program and event updates or cancellations, please visit bataviaparks.org/rainout. The umpires or instructors decide the status of play after program starts. They will base their decisions on the field conditions and the likelihood of rain or thunder.
Out-of-District Fee Policy
Batavia Park District residents make a significant contribution to the operation of the Park District via property taxes. The Park District boundaries were established with the formation of the Park District in 1969. A map showing the boundaries is included in the brochure and available at the Park District Administrative Offices. Persons living outside the boundaries may be required to pay an additional fee to register for programs.
Electronic Signature Readers
Electronic signature readers eliminate the need for you to complete a paper form every time you register. The electronic reader captures your signature and confirms that you’ve agreed to the liability waiver and release of all claims.
Signatures will stay on file for 12 months, and after that time you will simply stop in or complete an online registration to sign the waiver again. If you are a regular phone-in customer, we will need to capture your signature in person in order for you to do subsequent registrations by phone. Online registration is not affected.
Program Cancellations
All programming, events and trips are subject to cancellation up until the time of the program, event or trip if patron and staff safety is a concern. Programs not meeting the minimum registration will be canceled, and refunds will be issued in the form of a check.
Cancellation decisions will be made one week in advance of the beginning of the program in most cases. All participants in canceled classes will be notified by Park District staff and will receive a full refund.
Class Transfers
If you wish to transfer to a different class, please contact Customer Relations to complete a Transfer Form during business hours. The form is also available at bataviaparks.org: Programs & Events > Registration Information > Forms.
Waiting List
Many of our classes have Registration limits due to facility space and staff limitations, therefore we cannot always guarantee you will be enrolled in the class of your choice. The Park District maintains waiting lists for classes that have reached their maximum Registration and encourAges everyone to be placed on a waiting list. We will open additional classes whenever possible.
Instructors and leaders are not allowed to accept any registrations and are not allowed to give authorization for more people to register than the listed maximum. Your cooperation is appreciated. Registration deadlines have been set for each class. Please register prior to Registration deadline. We try to establish class status at least one week prior to starting dates. Please register at least one week prior to class unless designated otherwise.

The Batavia Park District intends to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act by making reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities. If you or someone you know will require an accommodation for District service, or have any questions about the District’s compliance, please contact Batavia Park District’s ADA Compliance and Inclusion officer Brittany Meyer at 327 W. GENERAL INFORMATION
Inclusion Services for Individuals with Disabilities
Batavia Park District works collaboratively with the Fox Valley Special Recreation Association (FVSRA) to provide reasonable modifications for individuals with disabilities who need assistance to participate successfully in programs.
We strive to foster independence and active participation in the least restrictive environment. In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), modifications can vary from program to program and are determined following an intake assessment conducted by a team member from FVSRA.
Modifications can include one or more of the following:
• Activity modification
• Adaptive equipment
• Additional staff support
• Sign Language interpreters
• Staff training
• Support plans for behavior, diabetes, or seizure disorders
Requesting Inclusion Services
Inclusion services can be requested at the time of registration in person or by phone. If registering online, click the “Contact Us” option in the top menu bar or call the park district at 630-879-5235 to place your request.
Timeline for Services
For new participants, FVSRA aims to complete an intake assessment within one week of receiving your request for inclusion services. Once an individual has a completed intake on file, the average time to determine and coordinate modifications is two weeks. To provide the best customer service, we ask for at least two weeks’ notice before the start of the program to arrange modifications.
Good Time Guarantee
At Batavia Park District, we are committed to providing the public with high quality recreation programs. Our residents are important to us and we feel they deserve quality at all times.
We are so confident that our recreation programs provide high quality and enjoyment that we are backing it with a policy called the “Good Time Guarantee.”
Our promise and policy is as follows:
The Batavia Park District will give you a full refund if requested by the beginning of the third class if you are unsatisfied with the quality of instruction, your child’s inability to adapt emotionally in the class, or the skill level is not appropriate for the participant.
Guidelines
• Participant must attend the first two classes of the program.
• Policy applies to recreation programs only. A recreation class is defined as a program where Park District personnel teach activities or skills over a period of six or more classes. This policy does not apply to Quarry passes, special events, trips, New Horizons Preschool, Day/ Sport Camps, Kids’ Club and Klub Fun and Youth/Adult Leagues.
• The “Good Time Guarantee” refund form must be filled out appropriately and received prior to the third class meeting. Forms are available at the Recreation offices. The park district will not fax, mail or e-mail copies. Upon receiving your completed form before the third class, we will process a full refund of your paid fees.
