Dance Class Helpful Tips

Tutu Tote: Dance shoes can be expensive, especially with growing feet! Please consider donating your “Tutu Tight” dance shoes to the “Tutu Tight Tote.” This container will remain in the dance room. When your dance shoes become “Tutu” tight, place them in the tote and hopefully a pair inside will fit your dancer. There is no exchange of money. Simply donate “tight” and hopefully find “just right.”

Dance Attire: Please wear clothing that allows for a full range of motion. No denim is allowed. Most dancers are comfortable in leotards/tights or leggings.

Dance Shoes: Dance shoe requirements are noted for each class. You may wait until the week after class begins (Week No. 2) to purchase shoes in the event that a class is canceled. Although we never want to cancel a class, low enrollment may cause class cancellations.

Visitors: Thank you for respecting our NO VISITORS policy. We love our fan club, but visitors pull a dancer’s focus from the instructor. In addition, students feel uncomfortable to learn with other parents (strangers) in the room. Thank you for your cooperation!

The goal of the Batavia Park District dance program is to help all dancers improve grace and flexibility while introducing them to the beauty and benefits of dance.

Beginner Jazz

Ages 5-7

Students will work on jazz technique, flexibility, turns and jumps while incorporating the fast, hard-hitting movements of Hip-Hop. Dance attire and jazz shoes are recommended for this class. Please make sure hair is pulled back into a ponytail or bun.

Beginner Hip Hop

Ages 6+

This is a high energy and hard hitting class that dances to current hip hop music. Previous dance experience is preferred.

Jazz/Hip Hop Combo

Ages 8-10

Students will work on jazz technique, flexibility, turns and jumps while incorporating the fast, hard-hitting movements of Hip-Hop. Dance attire and jazz shoes are recommended for this class. Please make sure hair is pulled back into a ponytail or bun.

Dancer’s Mix

Ages 5+

Does your dancer enjoy trying a variety of dance styles? Then Dancer’s Mix is the perfect class for them! Each week, the instructor will explore a different style of dance, including jazz, hip hop, tap, lyrical, and pom. Great for new and returning students alike!

Ballet

Ages 7+

Students study the beautiful art of ballet in a fun, yet professional environment. Through movement and terminology, students learn grace, improve coordination and flexibility, and develop confidence. Ballet 1 is for children new to dance through beginners. Leotard, tights, hair in a ponytail or bun, and leather ballet shoes with ties cut off are required.

Jazz

Ages 7+

Jazz dance introduces participants to new rhythms, steps, and movements in a fun and exciting atmosphere that will increase flexibility and strength. We will focus on jazz and some ballet.

Dance

Fun with Updos and Braids

Ages 4-12

Moms, bring your daughters to this amazing class and learn skills to create a variety of simple updos and braids for the holidays. Forget going to the beauty salon every time she needs her hair done for dance, cheer, gymnastics, school plays, or the holidays. A variety of styles will be taught to accommodate different age groups. Each girl will choose from a sparkly collection of clips and glitters to polish off their new glamour look. Goodie bags are included.

Vamonos Spanish Kids Club

Ages 6-10

Learning a second language can open a world of possibilities for your child. In this class, students will embark on their Spanish language journey, learning conversational Spanish and some Spanish grammar, reading, and writing skills through interactive, engaging, and fun activities. New and exciting material each session!

Horsemanship for Kids

Ages 10-17

Join in the fun with beginning riding lessons! Young riders will learn horsemanship skills at Dunham Woods Farm, an equestrian facility dedicated to providing the best lesson and horse care instruction for over 50 years. Riders will also explore the proper ways to groom, tack, and handle horses. Lessons will be held in the indoor arena during inclement weather. First day of class is orientation and groundwork. Make-up class will be held at the end of the six-week course. Riders should wear jeans or Jodhpur pants and hard-soled riding or hiking boots with a small, low heel. Learn to Code with Scratch

Ages 8-15

Students learn programming essentials using MIT’s Scratch coding language using a simple visual interface. A multilevel curriculum starts with children learning the basics of programming. Students program interactive media projects, such as stories, games, and animations. The activities encourage exploration of key computational thinking concepts (sequence, loops, parallelism, events, conditionals, operators, and data) and key computational thinking practices (experimenting and iterating, testing and debugging, reusing and remixing, abstracting and modularizing). Because this class is a multilevel program where children are placed based on skill and experience, students can repeat this class and start where they left off from the last class. Students should be familiar with using a computer.

LEGO Robotics Academy

Ages 6-14

Learn to design, build, and program robots using a creative educational approach that utilizes STEM concepts. This repeatable class groups students by their skill level and introduces more advanced concepts and activities as they progress. At the end of each session, students will be given a gift and the Robotics Academy student progress booklet.

Kids Cooking Class

Ages 5-13

Join a registered dietitian for a garden-to-plate cooking experience that will teach young chefs to whip up some tasty sliders with fresh herbs, and swirl fresh fruit into a yummy frozen dessert. Bring your friends to cook and share in the delicious meal after class. Use of aprons, kids’ knives and cutting boards and food for two recipes are included in the class. Young adults with special needs are also welcome. The April class will cook mini turkey sliders and homemade frozen peach yogurt and the May class will cook Asian chicken wraps and pineapple smoothies. See you there!

Chess Scholars

Ages 5-13

Develop your child’s intellect through the royal game of chess! Current research has shown a strong link between chess and academic performance in a variety of areas, including mathematics and language arts. Chess has been proven to enhance children’s motivation, concentration, focus, social skills, and creativity. Each class will consist of a fun, interactive teaching period and guided practice time. Both beginner and experienced players are welcome and will learn under the guidance of an experienced Chess Scholars coach.

This exciting new program from Afterschool Enrichment Solutions brings together elements of science, art and math in a hands-on, actionpacked environment! Pokeman Card Game Club

Ages 6-12

Battle it out with the best Pokemon trainers Geneva has to offer and truly become the best trainer there ever was! The Pokemon Card Game takes all the fun and fantasy of the classic cartoon and video game universe and lets you “battle” other collectors in a turnbased game of strategy, skill, and just a little bit of luck. Magic: The Gathering Game Night

Ages 8-13

Chilled Palette Kid’s Days

Ages 6-14

Kids will get to create as we guide them through the steps to completing their own canvas work of art. Sign up for one or more! All materials included, including aprons, snacks and instruction. The April class is Midnight Sailing and the May class is Under the Sea.

Learn to Play Dungeons and Dragons

Ages 6-12

New to the world of Dungeons & Dragons? Here’s the perfect place to start. Take a closer look at this legendary fantasy role-playing game and find out why millions of players worldwide have stepped into the boots of mighty heroes (and some sneaky anti-heroes) to create their own adventures! Gather your friends and set out on a quest unlike any that has ever been told before!

Confidence Through Comedy

Ages 6-13

Let’s end the school year with loads of laughter. In this high-energy comedy class, children will develop and execute comedic skills, gain a higher sense of confidence with stacked successes, and learn to use humor in a social setting. Through close observation and lab experimentation, this class offers electrifying lessons on humor such as: Impersonations, prank humor, slapstick, comic strips, improv, character voices, ventriloquism, and witty situational. They will also understand when comedy is taken TOO far in life. What is a heckler? What is a laugh track? What is microphone technique and comic timing? All kids leave with a humor-themed souvenir. This is a drop your child off class.

Parents’ Night Out

Ages 5-11

Parents Night Out is fun, active and much better for kids than staying home with a babysitter. While you enjoy a night out on the town, your kids have a great time with their friends while having a pizza for dinner and enjoying crafts, games, and much more.

Tween Nights

Ages 9-12

Come enjoy games, sports, music, movies, dancing, food, and more! This is a great opportunity to hang out with old friends and meet new friends from other schools. Registration is required.

Magic Class

Ages 5-12

Children are guaranteed to have fun as they learn a collection of fascinating and mesmerizing tricks! Amaze family and friends with tricks that involve cards, ropes, coins, mind-reading, and more. While the tricks may appear difficult, kids will discover they are quick to learn and easy to perform. All materials are provided and each child receives a magic kit to take home. Children are grouped by age and learn tricks that are age-appropriate. New tricks are taught each session, so you can sign up again.

Tropical Island Lab

Ages 6-13

Summer break is coming, and paradise is calling! Step into the ultimate STEM lab experience as kids are whisked away to enjoy marine and island life. Hands-on inspirational tropical themes might include: The life of a coconut, building an earthquake-proof pool cabana, red tide dramatization, sunscreen and coral science, octopus escapism experiment, Beluga Whale lost from his pod dramatization, ocean plastic-palooza challenge, snack shack science, palm tree adventures, and seashell lab for some incredible fun. At your next family vacation, your kids will teach you a thing or two about the high seas and conservation! Souvenirs are included. This is a drop your child off class.
