Fast & Fabulous Cards

Ages 18+

Don’t have a lot of time to make cards? Why not join this fun class? These fast and fabulous cards will wow your recipients, but will only take a short time to create. We will be making four cards in only one hour! Each session will feature different cards and all will include birthday, thank you, thinking of you, and a seasonal card. A variety of greetings are always available to fit your needs. Registration deadline is noon the day before class.

WOW Card-Making Class

Ages 18+

Are you ready for more advanced card designs? Do you love layers, embellishments, techniques, and bling? Then this card class is for you! We will make two “over-the-top” cards each class. Registration deadline is noon the day before class.

Birthday Card Stock Up

Ages 16+

Never seem to have a birthday card on hand when you need it? Not any more with this class. We will create 10 birthday cards (two each of five different designs). They will include cards suitable for children and adults, male and female. We will be rubber stamping, using designer-patterned paper and embellishments, including ribbon, braids, and more. All supplies and envelopes are included. A steal compared to card store prices! Registration deadline is noon the day before class.

All Occasion Card Stock Up

Ages 18+

Does it seem like you never have the right card when you need it? Not any more with this class. We will be creating 10 all-occasion cards (two each of five different designs) to have on hand for your birthday, thinking of you, sympathy, thank-you, and more. A variety of greetings will be available to personalize the cards we make to your needs. We will be rubber stamping, using designer-patterned paper and embellishments, including ribbon, braids, and more. All supplies and envelopes included. A steal compared to card store prices!

Mindful Meditation and Stress Management

Ages 18+

Train your mind the way you train your body for the perfect antidote to daily stress. Chopra Center-certified instructor Stephanie Frantz will teach you centuriesold meditation and breathing techniques to help you de-stress and increase your overall sense of well-being.

Beginning Adult Tap Dance

Ages 21+

Have fun learning basic tap technique, simple routines, and step combinations set to fun music. An intermediate class will cover more complex patterns and combinations to apply to fun routines. Tap shoes are required for the intermediate class and preferred for the beginner class.

Adult Knitting

Ages 18+

A great beginner class for anyone who has never picked up a set of knitting needles or for those looking to get back into an old hobby. You will learn how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. By the end of class, you will have completed your very first project, a beautiful scarf. Note: Supplies are NOT included. Students will need to purchase a set of size 7 or 8 needles (straight or circular) and two skeins of yarn, worsted weight preferred.

Horsemanship for Adults

Ages 18+

Join the fun at Dunham Woods Farm with beginning riding lessons. Our teachings are based on tradition and looking to the future. You’ll learn all about the proper ways to groom, tack, and handle horses. In the saddle, you will learn the basics of riding at the walk and trot. Riders should wear jeans or Jodhpur pants and hardsoled riding or hiking boots with a small, low heel. Bring an approved riding helmet or bicycle helmet.

Registration deadline is May 26.

Tai Chi

Ages 18+

Discover how the flowing and graceful movements of Tai Chi can reduce stress and anxiety, improve balance and body control, increase the feeling of peace and well-being, and promote health and healing. Learn the basic breathing, movement, and philosophy of Tai Chi and begin to practice this ancient art form of meditation in motion.

Women’s Self Defense

Ages 13+

Be safe! Be aware! Be the victor! Identifying and avoiding dangerous situations, making safe choices, and physically stopping an assault will be addressed. “Be the victor not the victim” handout and video will be presented and discussed. Dress in exercise clothing and plan on using your voice and being physical. Girls younger than 13 should be accompanied by an adult female. Ladies may participate in the class activities at their comfort level.

Basic Car Maintenance

Ages 14+

In this class you will learn how to check a vehicle’s fluid levels and tire pressure, as well as how to change a flat tire. Please wear closed-toed shoes and clothes appropriate for a maintenance shop environment. This class will be taught by Mitch Dienst, Batavia Park District’s own mechanic, and held at our maintenance facility at 700 South River Street.

Mobility & Flexibility

Ages 25–75

You have heard the old adage, “If you don’t use it, you lose it.” It is TRUE. This interactive class, taught by physical therapist Joe King, will explain the importance of stretching, describe various ways to stretch, outline a general daily routine that is manageable, and describe possible modifications to classic stretch positions. Time for Q and A will be allotted at the end. Dress in loose, comfortable clothing.

Parenting Workshop

Ages 18+

This four-week program will help you identify your parenting style and develop new expectations around parenting in order to help your child become more independent and confident. You will learn the benefit of validating your child’s feelings and stepping back to observe versus stepping in to fix the problem.

Topics:

• Session 1: Reimagining the home. Seeing the world from three feet tall.

• Session 2: The child’s point of view. How she/he sees the world.

• Session 3: Is your child attention-needy, determined and/or one who hides in corners?

• Session 4: Helping your child solve his own problems.
