Mark Harding, Sales Director, Bath Ales

A brewery for those who know... ...and those who don’t.

“Traditional brewing techniques blended with cutting-edge technology. Local breweries don’t get much better than this. Bath Ales enjoys a rapidly growing reputation - and rapidly growing sales.” Our carefully crafted ales are popular with real ale and craft beer buffs through to drinkers who traditionally plump for lager and other beverages, such as women and twenty-somethings.This wide appeal has driven our sales and attracted interest from a diverse range of trade customers, from pubs and bars to hotels and restaurants, and from independent shops to off-licences and major supermarkets, as well as our growing export business. Originally set up in 1995 by three ale-loving friends (two brewers and a publican), we have grown steadily over the years to become a well loved regional brewer. We punch above our weight on a national and international scale, while still retaining the nimbleness of a start-up micro-brewery. It may well be a cliché but our driving aim has always been to strive for quality above all else, and we find that sales follow on naturally from this. = 1,000 barrels (240,000 pints)

Keg (30l) KEGG1 n/a

Gem (4.1% vol) is our premium amber ale. It’s an exceptional best bitter with a rich aroma of hops and malt, and a long, deep, bitter-sweet finish.

Keg is often the preferred method of dispense for stout, so is a natural choice for Dark Side, but keg Gem is also a great solution for those wanting to offer craft ales without the capacity to sustain cask volume. Easier to maintain than casks and with a longer shelf-life, kegs allow you to keep a far greater range for far longer. After the beer has finished fermentation and has been conditioned, it is chilled and sterile filtered to remove the yeast, thus allowing it to be kept longer, increasing your selling period. Keg beer is also a convenient option if you have limited, or no cellar storage space as it is dispensed upright, or if you are less experienced in keeping cask beer but are still determined to serve great drinks. Our in-house technical services team will of course assist with the install and maintenance. The modern dispense, slightly cooler, more carbonated taste and the fact that it often appears in bar-type settings, has resulted in various reports that keg beer appeals largely to younger drinkers. Whilst this may be true of many brands, we have found that demand for keg Gem is across the board; young and old, male and female.

In 2007 we commissioned our own state-of-the-art bottling plant, housed in dedicated premises just round the corner from our brewery and head offices. Built to the highest specifications and using some of the very latest digital and technical innovations, it can handle as many as 2,700 bottles per hour and is capable of runs of between 10 and 150 barrels (15240 hectolitres), sterilising, carbonating, filling and labeling in concurrent processes. Our cutting-edge bottling plant enables us to control and manage the process from start to finish, and to produce our own bottled range - ensuring premium quality and consistency at every stage. Beerd is the bombastic brewery born out of the eponymous destination Craft Beer & Pizza Bar in St. Michael's Hill, Bristol, and an obsessive love for the worldwide phenomenon that is beer. Beerd brews are unmistakeably Bristolian but international at heart - mixing up traditional British brewing techniques with global trends, unconventional ingredients, and unusual brewing methods. Our resident mad professor Shane O’Beirne, flocculent and Galway-born, concocts a medley of off-the-wall brews in his East Bristol laboratory. There are some decidedly challenging taste profiles in Beerd's ever-evolving brewing calendar, ranging from extreme-hopped IPAs to Munich-style Dunkels and from super-strength Hefeweizens to Scottish 80 shillings. The bristling Beerd brewers are on a never-ending quest for the most distinctive and interesting pint, with a multitude of maverick and experimental brews in the works - spend too much time tweaking those whiskers and you'll miss them!

monterey - 3.9% CALIFORNIA PALE ALE

RAZOR - 5.9% INDIA PALE ALE

VIGILANTE - 4.5% AMERICAN PALE ALE

silvertip - 4.7% new zealand pale ale

A sun-soaked pale ale lazing away under a gentle pine fragrance, before heading down to Monterey Bay where the party's at - grab some of that tropical cocktail aroma, then let your tongue return to bask under the pines and enjoy a quick sharp bitter finish.

Sit back in our creaky leather seat and let the pale barber freshen you up with his full-bodied Razor blade. Lather up with nosey passion fruit, cut, then finish off with honey and bitter orange astringent. Something for the weekend, sir?

Fighting for the people, the pale-faced Vigilante strives to right the wrongs of the corrupt establishment with its own brand of Amarillo hop honour. Armed with nothing but quick grapefruit wits and citrus integrity, justice will surely prevail.

The fruity, fresh winds of the pale New Zealand mountains invigorate and revitalise, easing the ascent to the summit of Silvertip. Take in the Nelson Sauvin hop aroma on the breeze, before descending into the white wine vineyards below.

A full bodied IPA. An aroma of passion fruit, subtle honey flavours mingle with the hoppiness, then a long, bitter, orange-tinged finish.

A refreshing citrusy strawcoloured American Pale Ale brewed using Amarillo hops to give massive grapefruit flavours and aromas with a crisp finish.

A refreshing pale ale using popular New Zealand hops to give it a fruity aroma and a flavour that has hints of white wine. It is easy to drink and has a fresh quick bitter finish.

A West Coast style pale ale brewed with American-sourced hops. Pine and tropical fruits on the nose, more pine on the tongue followed by a quick, sharp, bitter finish.

Legendary. Since we established Bath Ales in 1995, we’ve come a long way. We were recently described as the “cherished, award-winning brewers of some of the country’s best beers”. These include Gem, our premium amber ale; Wild Hare, our impeccable pale ale; and Festivity, our wonderful winter rum porter. Each one is the result of our passion for great beer, our fastidious selection of the best hops and barley malt, and the skill, patience and uncompromising approach of our brewers. Across Bristol and Bath, we also manage a growing estate of pubs serving some of the region’s best food. To critical acclaim, each of our pubs has undergone understated refurbishment, and our design approach has created the atmosphere and simplicity of an earlier age. While each pub serves its own menu of food, they all source their ingredients as locally as possible. This helps to reduce food miles, support local growers and producers, and ensure that everything is as fresh - and therefore as tasty - as possible. At the end of the day, we like to make great beer that’s accessible and attractive to everyone - from the biggest bitter buff to the most ardent lager lover. We also like to make our pubs friendly venues whether you’re a local or not-so-local, a drinker or a foodie, with friends or with your family. Not only does our growth and popularity suggest that people like what we do, but it also gives credence to our philosophy of being a brewery for those who know... ...and those who don’t.
