BECKFORD, BATH AND THE PROFITS OF TRANSATLANTIC SLAVERY
When writer and collector William Beckford moved to Bath in 1822 it was a city that had already significantly benefitted from the transatlantic slave trade. Beckford added to that wealth as he commissioned buildings, furniture and objects that paid even more profits of the stolen labour of enslaved people into the city. Join Dr Amy Frost on a special Bath Festival walk in Beckford’s footsteps exploring the source of his wealth.
