Speaker Biographies Gary Argent: Gary graduated from King’s College London with a degree in Computer Science in 1991. He spent 9 years working in technical, project management and consultancy roles for an IT Services company before moving into graduate recruitment and development in 2000 where he was responsible for recruiting 200 graduate, placement students and school leavers each year. In 2008 he joined the Association of Graduate Recruiters, a small not for profit association which exists to promote best practice and raise standards in graduate recruitment by enabling employers, universities and suppliers work together more effectively. Simon Barbato is a brand, creative and marketing consultant with over 18 years’ experience. He started his career in some of London's most prestigious advertising and creative agencies including Abbot Mead Vickers, and Ogilvy & Mather before launching his own agency. He founded Mr B & Friends in 2006 and was joined by his creative director partner Steve Richardson in 2008. They position the company as a boutique brand and creative agency working with a wide range of local, national and international clients to improve, develop and communicate their brands and are currently based in Bath. Matt Booth has been in the music industry for some fifteen years, involved in studio engineering, live music promotion, and artist management in the UK. He has worked with the major independents and the not so independent majors in the UK and US. Matt now runs the Bristol Music Foundation.
Robin Bischert joined Bath Tourism Plus - the Destination Marking Organisation for Bath - as Chief Executive in September 2004. Robin’s whole career has been spent in the leisure, entertainment and tourism sectors, with previous roles including Managing Director, Parkwood Leisure Limited; Product Development Manager, English Tourist Board; Coordinator Community Sports Programmes London, Sport England and Assistant Manager, Wembley Stadium Plc. He has also held international management consultant roles with both Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Robin holds an MBA as well as BA (Hons) Business Studies and a Cert Ed (Physical Education). Joan Dixon has worked in the Yellow Pages business for nearly 22 years. Her first role was a General Artist and has had various roles since then enjoying opportunities to travel to the USA, Spain and India. She was appointed Operations Manager of the Bristol studio in September 2007. Joan didn’t consider career choices when chosing a Fine Art degree at the age of 19 and, after graduating, drifted into graphics as a means of support. She would never have considered management as an option back then, but is now very happy in the role. Andrew Hunt has been involved with most areas of the change management profession during his 25 year career. He has provided change management consultancy to a wide variety of organisations in a number of key industrial sectors, including: IT, Finance, Telecoms, Government and Transport; in the UK and across Europe. Recent work has included programme management consultancy an upgrade to BP service stations in Europe, as well as establishing project offices for Novartis. Andrew’s primary focus is motivating and encouraging people from different organisations, and cultures, to work together to provide a common product and managing the resulting culture change. Greg Ingham began as a journalist, launching trade magazine CTW before joining Future in 1988 as Publisher. He became MD in 1993 and then chief executive in 1998, leading an MBO in that year and then an IPO in 1999. He stepped down from Future in 2006, after seven years as a public company CEO. Through his consultancy work he is involved at a high level with a variety of companies in different business sectors and leads the B&NES-wide creative industries forum, Creative Bath. Lyndsey Melling left school in 2004 without a career in mind. Her interest in writing, led her to the Creative Studies in English and Sociology degree at Bath Spa University. Despite loving the course, it became clear early on that she wasn’t cut out to be a novelist or a poet and through the English department’s recently-developed Artswork Broadcast Lab, got stuck in to making short films and radio programmes. On leaving Bath Spa, Lyndsey undertook a three-month work placement at BBC Audiobooks, through which she subsequently gained her current role as Production Assistant in 2007. David Postlethwaite began his television career at Tyne Tees Television too many moons ago. He started work in the schedules department organising film crew and studio shoots. He moved to HTV in Bristol in 1988 and became Head of Production at the Arno’s Vale studios where he was responsible for the technical operation and crewing of the studios. After a brief period working in London for Mentorn he joined the BBC where he was to remain for 14 years. As Production Executive, his credits include 999, Dancing in the Street – The history of rock music, Ray Mears, Top Gear, Countryfile and numerous documentaries and series. David spent a lot of time in New York where he set up and ran a production office for the Factual and Learning Department at the BBC before leaving in 2006 and is now delighted to be Head of Production at Touch Productions in Bath. Phil Thomas has worked for the NHS for 20 years starting his career as a student nurse and moving onto specialising in Accident and Emergency. He then progressed into management, working in Human Resources, general management and project management. For the last three years he has been working in the Institute of Innovation and Improvement, looking after the graduate scheme in the south central strategic health authority region. Ceri Vaughan graduated from Bath Spa University in 2007 with a BA (Hons) Business and Management. During her degree, Ceri developed an interest in HR and, shortly after graduation, gained a PA role within the Training Design team of LloydsTSB. Through undertaking additional responsibilities and developing further ‘on-the-job’ experience, she soon achieved promotion to her current role as Assistant Manager. Through her employer, Ceri is currently undertaking an MSc in Human Resource Development at the University of Leicester and is due to gain this, and CIPD accreditation, in 2010.
