WINDOWS TO THE

WORLD 2016/2017

SEASON

DEAR FRIENDS, On behalf of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra let me say we are very excited to share our plans for next season with you, one we call “Windows on the World.” We have put together programs that offer unique points of view of the repertoire and artists such as “From Spain to the new World” and “American Vistas.” We look forward to the opportunity to share them with you. As always, we make sure our season is loaded wtih some of the best-loved works of symphonic music. This season you can look forward to Brahms Symphony no. 2, Copland’s Appalachian Spring and Beethoven’s Symphony no. 7 just to name a few. Secondly, we have a spectacular roster of guest artists including of some of the world’s most sought-after talent such as Louisiana’s own Branford Marsalis. Also, after her most memorable appearance on our Lamar Chamber Series, guitarist Sharon Isbin returns to BR to open our Masterworks season. We are also very excited about the continuation of our BRSO Family Pops series. This season features 5-time Grammy-Award winner jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves along with a program called “Classic Soul” with top 40 hits from the kings and queens of classic soul, including Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye and many more. Also, a concert featuring the music of ET, and of course the Baton Rouge Holiday tradition we call “Home for the Holidays” featuring our wonderful BRSO Chorus and a wide range of extraordinary talent from right here in Baton Rouge. The Lamar Family Chamber Series promises to again delight our audiences with a program of vocal chamber music with Paul Groves. Also, a wonderful collaboration with BR’s modern dance company “Of Moving Colors,” and the St. Lawrence String Quartet. Along with these extraordinary programs of course, we have the orchestra itself. It is such a pleasure and privilege for me to share the stage with these great musicians…..a source of great pride for our city. We are so looking forward to sharing these musical treasures with you. Please join us next season. We look forward to seeing you in the concert hall. Sincerely,

Timothy Muffitt MUSIC DIRECTOR
