If you own a laptop it’s good to know how to safely clean your laptop since you paid good money for it or perhaps it was a laptop you received as a gift. Keyboards are one of the dirtiest things we touch on a regular basis. Keyboard can be five times dirtier than a toilet seat! So, it’s important to keep your laptop clean, not only for aesthetic purposes but for health reasons, too.

Check with the manufacturer of your specific laptop to find out if they have any special suggestions for cleaning before doing anything yourself. If the manufacturer doesn’t provide any special instructions then before you start you’ll want to have the following items handy: rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol, cotton swabs (like the ones you use for a baby), compressed air aka “canned air” and a soft cloth. After you have all the necessary cleaning essentials gathered to clean your laptop unplug and remove the battery before you start the process to avoid getting shocked. Once your laptop is unplugged and without the battery you are ready to begin. Start by cleaning the surfaces of your laptop. This would include the case, and the screen. You will want to use a soft cloth for cleaning these areas. If you want the surfaces sanitized put a small amount of rubbing alcohol on the cloth before wiping down the surfaces. Be sure never to use any harsh cleansers on your laptop because these can damage your computer. See Also:
Next you’ll want to tackle the keyboard. Use the compressed air to “blow” out crumbs, dust, and other debris that’s hiding underneath and between the keys. Be sure you don’t tilt the can or liquefied air can come out and this can cause frostbite. It’s important to always keep the can vertical. Once this part is done dip a cotton swab in the alcohol and start to clean between the keys. Take your time, and don’t soak the swab too much with alcohol. You don’t want to leave pools of liquid between or under the keys. When you’re satisfied the keys are clean take your soft cloth, moisten with alcohol, and gently wipe the surface of the keys to finish off the process. Lastly you’ll want to clean the vents and fans of your laptop. These areas can get very dusty and clogged with dust, which then causes your laptop to overheat. To rid the fans of dust you’ll want to use the canned air, however first you need to use a paperclip or toothpick to keep the fan blades from moving.
