His mother Peppermint, father Cocoa and sister Chestnut must all find decorations for his beautiful antlers. “I’ll look in the attic!” says Peppermint. “Perfect! I’ll look in the garage,” says Cocoa. “I’m going to the basement,” says Chestnut. “And I’m off to the general store!” shouts Mistletoe. Later, the reindeer meet in the living room. They’re smiling, but they’re all dirty! “The attic was full of dust!” says Peppermint, coughing. “Luckily, I found this beautiful red Christmas decoration with snowflakes at the bottom of
den bells that were hanging in the garage. They were on top of a bin full of soil.” “Ha, ha!” laughs Chestnut. “I found the string lights. They were on a very high shelf in the basement. When I picked them up, I bumped into an open bag of plaster. That’s why I’m all white!” “Look!” says Mistletoe. “I bought a red bow and a candy cane. But I didn’t see the ‘fresh paint’ sign on the wall of the general store. I leaned against it for a second — and now I’m brown and blue! After a good bath, Mistletoe the reindeer had his antlers decorated. The result was MAGNIFICENT! That evening, his family won the competition and their prize. It was a huge crate of sweet carrots, their favourite vegetable!

The funny performance of Kitty and Tom, the Cats BY JOHANNIE DUFOUR AND SARAH BEAUREGARD TRANSLATED BY JASMINE HEESAKER
Kitty and Tom have been skating together for several years. Through training, the two cats have become great friends. They also share the same sense of humour. For the Christmas ice
dance show, they decided to prepare a very special number. Their goal? To make spectators from all over Magical Animal Land laugh! Kitty and Tom are excited! “I can’t wait to see how the
crowd reacts,” says Kitty as she puts on her costume. “I hope they laugh, otherwise we’ll just look ridiculous,” replies Tom. “Of course, don’t worry,” she replies. “Our act is perfect!” “Yes, you’re probably right. Come on, let’s get started and watch our friends.” First, the touching act by gazelles, Noelle and Arielle, brings the audience to tears. Next, Winnie the weasel bewitches the crowd with a graceful waltz. Then Campbell the camel performs daring pirouettes that leave all the animals on the edge of their seats. Finally, it’s Kitty and Tom’s turn. From the first notes of their catchy song, the crowd taps their feet and flaps their wings in delight. Kitty plays the role of the
teacher. Elegantly, she dashes onto the ice and beckons her friend to join her in the centre. Tom, who is pretending to learn how to skate, then takes his turn. He carefully places a paw on the ice, takes a few hesitant steps and comically collapses! Throughout the act, Kitty shows Tom some moves. He then clumsily imitates them. He takes a series of funny falls, sometimes causing Kitty to fall because he’s so bad at it. The audience laughs out loud from start to finish. When the music stops, the two cats are delighted. They’ve had the time of their lives, and the crowd goes wild with applause. What a wonderful evening! Kitty and Tom won’t soon forget it.

WHITE CHRISTMAS
RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose. And if you ever saw him, you would even say it glows.
I’m dreaming of a white Christmas Just like the ones I used to know Where the treetops glisten, and children listen To hear sleigh bells in the snow
All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names. They never let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games.
I’m dreaming of a white Christmas With every Christmas card I write May your days be merry and bright And may all your Christmases be white
Then one foggy Christmas Eve Santa came to say: “Rudolph with your nose so bright, won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?”
I’m dreaming of a white Christmas With every Christmas card I write May your days be merry and bright And may all your Christmases be white
Then all the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee, Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, you’ll go down in history!

Gift ideas for teens Are you looking for the perfect Christmas gift for the teenager in your life? Here are a few ideas to inspire you. • A gift card. Select a gift card from a shop they love, such as a clothing store, restaurant or bookshop. If you’re not familiar with the teenager’s preferences, discreetly ask friends and family to find out for you.
• Cash. As you know, teenagers no longer believe in Father Christmas and like to make their own choices. Cash or some money via e-transfer will be a winning idea. Happy gift-giving!
• Tickets to a show. Tickets to comedy and music shows are becoming increasingly expensive. Therefore, gifting someone a pair of tickets is very generous! To avoid making a misstep, make sure you select a show they’ll enjoy. Have a chat beforehand and subtly ask who their favourite artists are. • An accessory that matches their hobby. If the teenager is into painting, a portable easel would be a lovely gift. If they’re into filming and posting videos on social media, a ring light or high-quality tripod would be perfect. Above all, make sure you don’t buy something they already own.

A CHRISTMAS STORY 2023 23
Nothing can take the place of a Christmas tree when it comes time to decorate our homes for the holidays. The tree is the focal point of the Christmas décor and sets the tone for the style and colours of all the other festive decorations. The pleasure of decorating the tree is what counts the most, whether you choose to have a natural or an artificial one. Both types of trees have their pros and cons. The advantages of a natural tree: • It fills the house with a wonderful aroma • It has a natural look (which is always more beautiful)
