Poundmaker artifact repatriated in Fort Battleford ceremony Leadership staff returned
By Kyle M. Anderson Freelance Reporter
Descendants of Chief Poundmaker, Parks Canada staff gathered at Fort Battleford May 4 for a private ceremony to repatriate a leadership staff that belonged to the famous Cree chief back to his descendants and the First Nation that bears his name. A statement from the family indicated Chief Poundmaker (Pitikwahanapiwiyin) was one of the greatest Plains Cree leaders of the 19th century. A strategic thinker, he brought nations together and strove to protect the interests of the Cree during the negotiation of Treaty 6. A humble and honest man, Poundmaker acted as a peacemaker and sought to declare his loyalty to the Crown during the NorthWest Resistance of 1885. However, he was rebuffed by local officials. After the Resistance, he was convicted for treason-felony in a trial that has since been widely-criticized. In 1967, Poundmaker’s remains were brought home from his original
resting place on Siksika territory and reinterred at the site of the Battle of Cut Knife on the Poundmaker Reserve. In 2019, the Canadian Government exonerated Poundmaker, and apologized for the trial and Poundmaker’s unjust conviction. As the Poundmaker family continues to work to bring home the personal artifacts of Chief Poundmaker, said the family’s statement, they continue to be inspired by his willingness to stand up for what he believed in, peacefully. Although they remember how many of his items were taken under duress, it has become a healing journey to bring these items home, and to have Poundmaker’s spirit come to rest. The request for repatriation of the staff was made by Pauline Poundmaker (Brown Bear Woman). She represents the Poundmaker family who are supported by Poundmaker Cree Nation in their claim. Parks Canada supported the repatriation request in keeping with the United Nations Declaration on
the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which asserts the rights of Indigenous Peoples to practice their cultural and spiritual traditions, and to control their ceremonial items and ancestral remains, to further demonstrate reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. Pauline Poundmaker, the chief’s great-greatgranddaughter stated, “Repatriation of sacred artifacts and objects is a spiritual journey and we would like to acknowledge Parks Canada for taking the lead in recognizing and understanding the significance of transferring ownership of Chief Poundmaker’s staff to our family.” In April 1967, her mother Alma Poundmaker, great granddaughter of Chief Poundmaker, represented the direct descendants of the Poundmaker family when they brought Chief Poundmaker home to his final resting place. Floyd Favel, curator of the Poundmaker Museum on the First Nation stated that the repatriation of the staff has been a five-year journey. Continued on Page 5

A 35-year-old woman wanted by police for 15 months in an alleged child abuse case had her first scheduled appearance in court Friday. Charmaine Brett Bear – also known as Charmaine Spyglass - was arrested in Calgary, Alta., without incident and brought back to Saskatchewan to face charges of aggravated assault, two counts of assault,
two counts of uttering threats, failing to provide the necessaries of life, and criminal negligence causing bodily harm. The Crown is opposed to her release and a show cause hearing is scheduled in North Battleford Provincial Court May 16. In January 2021, 35-year-old Lyle Aaron Bear was arrested and charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, aggra-
vated assault, two counts of assault, two counts of uttering threats, and two counts of assault with a weapon. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for September in North Battleford Provincial Court. Police say their investigation started in December 2020 when they received a report of alleged child abuse. The charges against Charmaine Bear and Lyle Bear haven’t been proven in court.

Union files unfair labour practice charge against Battlefords Transit System Staff
Representatives of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 615 of Saskatoon were in North Battleford Tuesday to support local transit workers, past and present, who are calling for an end to actions they see as “union-busting.” According to a statement released by the ATU Local 615, it has filed an unfair labour practice charge against the Battlefords Transit System, which is currently being heard at the Saskatchewan Labour Board. In its statement, ATU claimed, “BTS management has threatened the workers in written correspondence for taking action to organize their workplace. They slashed workers’ pay by cancelling assigned shifts further impacting their substandard wages. Furthermore, they rushed to hire anti-union family members of the board of directors to taint the union vote. These actions constitute irreparable unfair interference.” Local 615 executives met with local transit workers, some former, on the steps of North Battleford City Hall Tuesday afternoon to hand out information to the public, hold a media availability and seek a meeting with the City of North Battleford. Amalgamated Transit Union Local 615 president and business agent Darcy Pederson and local transit employee Allan Medd addressed the media and members of the public outside City Hall (see the
video) and they were able to secure an impromptu meeting with Mayor David Gillen and City Manager Randy Patrick. Meeting in the city council chamber, Pederson told Gillen and Patrick that BTS employees are some of the worst paid transit workers in Canada. They receive no benefits and no sick days, even as frontline workers throughout the pandemic. Both Patrick and Gillen noted, however, that while the City of North Battleford may write the paycheques to transit workers, for the last year it has been a bookkeeping service they perform on behalf of the transit system and that the city charges for that service. They are not involved in the day-to-day operation, policy-making or hiring of workers. That, they said, is up to BTS and its board of directors, and disagreements over working conditions are between the employees and BTS management. Neither did Gillen and Patrick have an explanation as to why transit workers had come to understand a directive to cut $30,000 from its budget — meaning no wage increase and no benefits — had come from the City of North Battleford. Medd said BTS management appears to have gone out of its way to bust the current union drive. He said he wants everyone to be able to make an informed choice on whether to unionize or not. Medd also said they have been unable to access the board, and have

not been able to meet with the city council either, to which Patrick said he would provide them with a name and contact information to get in touch with the board. Gillen said even the council doesn’t meet regularly with the board. They get a once-a-year presentation, he said, plus updates from the council’s one representative to the board, Councillor Greg Lightfoot. As to the question before the Labour Board, Gillen said, “We aren’t privy to any of this, so it’s hard for us to comment one way or another.” He said the city council is concerned and they don’t want people feeling uncomfortable in their jobs, but they have to wait on the Labour Board’s decision. When he heard suggestions had been made that the city was paying the legal fees for BTS in the Labour Board matter, Gillen said the city was not involved. “We have a relationship with the transit system, but we’re not operating in behind the scenes, running and telling everybody what to do, and hiring lawyers,” said Gillen. “This is just not true.” In his remarks to media outside City Hall, Medd said better pay and benefits are needed to bring younger people into the transit system. He noted he was at the top of the wage scale for BTS at $19 an hour. Pedersen noted Saskatoon’s workers are closer to $30. “We need to bring younger blood in, and to

News-Optimist cartoonist wins second in World Press Freedom Canada contest
The commentaries offered on this editorial page are intended to provide thought-provoking material for our readers. Contributors’ articles, cartoons or letters do not necessarily reflect the opinion of any Regional News-Optimist staff.
As part of the observance of World Press Freedom Day, a reminder of the importance of journalistic freedom around the world, World Press Freedom Canada holds an International Editorial Cartoon Competition. The competition receives hundreds of entries every year, often from countries where press freedom is not a reality but a distant dream. This year, Patrick Lamontagne, editorial cartoonist for the News-Optimist, won a second place spot in the competition.
By Patrick Lamontagne Even though I’ve been a nationally syndicated editorial cartoonist for more than 20 years, drawing more than 325 cartoons a year, I don’t often enter competitions. Although my newspaper clients will often enter their editorial pages, or my local paper, The Rocky Mountain Outlook, will submit cartoons on my behalf. So, my cartoons have won, placed or have been an ingredient of several Canadian Community Newspapers Association awards over the years. I don’t enter the annual National Newspaper Awards, as I am a freelance cartoonist, and consideration for those awards requires sponsorship from a daily newspaper. While several dailies run my cartoons each week, I’m not in any of their employ. So that technicality means I can’t submit for the NNAs. But then the following call for entries arrived in February for the 22nd Annual World Press Freedom cartoon competition.

one that meets the strict quality control metric of “good enough to meet my daily deadline,” that’s the one that gets printed and complimented the most. I’m grateful to be counted in the top three and for the prize that comes with it, especially considering the many talented and skilled cartoonists worldwide whose work is no doubt worthy of the same recognition.
It reminded me of a cartoon I had drawn featuring a statue of Canada’s first prime minister. So, I formatted it according to the criteria and submitted it. With entries from all over the world, I surrendered any expectations and didn’t give it any further thought. Then a couple of weeks ago, I was informed that I was a finalist. But I didn’t know if that meant I was in consideration for the top three or the additional 10 that traditionally receive honourable mention. So once again, I set aside any high expectations. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my cartoon received second place in the competition, between the winner, Marilena Nardi of Italy and Toso Borkovic of Serbia in third. I enjoyed drawing this cartoon, though I learned long ago that what I think is clever and what other people like can be very different things. It’s a running gag between my wife and me that if I think a cartoon is particularly good, it won’t get printed anywhere. But if I send out

Gone but not forgotten Dear Editor We are lonely. At one time we had visitors wandering our grounds and enjoyed their visits, now that our homes have been torn down in the way of progress, which we understand, but where are the benches to sit on? The views are fantastic and we would appreciate the visitors Long ago we were a community of lost people that society tried to hide, yet we were vital. Many of us fought in the wars, yet we are forgotten. We need to see the people back, wandering our grounds, sitting on benches enjoying the views and enjoying life. Our little church is fenced off; no one can get to it. Thank goodness it did not see the wrecking ball. It sits alone but not forgotten, just sitting in a field fenced off from the public, so sad and not even a bench to relax on as it is viewed. Sadder yet, we have a graveyard. It is hidden behind a grove of trees on all sides. The road to it is now hidden and overgrown and almost inaccessible. With no visitors it feels like society wants to forget us again. We do not ask much, just some simple benches and easy access so people can come and reflect. We do not bother those walking around or sitting and enjoying the views, we welcome the sights of life and love. We were forgotten in many cases, but we will never
forget. You know the place as the Old Saskatchewan Hospital Grounds; for many it is our home for an eternity. Visit us, enjoy life, but please do not forget us Our spirit lives on here. Let us share what was our home with you. All we ask is bring a few benches, sit, relax and enjoy, and remember we were here. Joe O’Brien North Battleford

Youth artists honoured with Hazee Awards By John Cairns Staff Reporter
Youth art was celebrated in the Battlefords once again with the third annual Hazee Awards taking place. The official name is the Hazel Asmussen Youth Art Competition, named after an artist and nurse in the Battlefords who passed away in 2009. The awards were spearheaded in her memory by her friends, Rob and Nora Rongve, as a way to support and inspire youth art. The first Hazee Awards competition was in 2019 and the second in the fall of 2021. The number of submissions has continued to grow, with this year seeing some repeat entries and winners. In the first year they had 21 entries, and it grew to 31 in 2021 and 41 for this year’s competition. The competition was open to youth artists within a 100-kilometre radius of North Battleford. The awards recipients include four winners and seven honourable mentions in the senior awards category and three winners and two honourable mentions in the junior category. Prize money was awarded to all of those winners and honourable mentions. In the senior category, the top prize of $500 went to Akeira Anseth for her work Lii Bufloo. to support our efforts to reduce barriers to participation and engage people in
New Horizons began this year’s golf at the North Battleford Golf and Country Club on Monday morning, May 9. It has been more than two years since our last outing, due to Covid-19. It was very good to get back and 24 members turned out to try their skills on the
links. The morning began a bit on the cool side, but it turned out to quite a nice day. Taking first place, on a count back, with a score of 37, was the foursome of Lyle and Jutta Whitbread, Len Taylor and Al White. In second place, with an identical score of 37, was the team of Denis and Connie Carignan, Dale Cain and Bernie Meisner.
The consolation went to Pat and Ralph Tillmanns, Alan Konkin and Bill Swiderski. Bernie Meisner won closest to the pin on hole number 8, while Len Taylor won the Co-op car wash for making the longest putt on number 9. New Horizons will play their next game on Monday, May 16 at 9:30 a.m.

How to celebrate National Nursing Week
National Nursing Week takes place from May 9 to 15, 2022. The purpose of this special celebration is to bring awareness to governments, policymakers and the general public of the importance of nurses’ contributions to the well-being of society.
1761 - 100 St., North Battleford
306-937-2696
The theme of this year’s week-long celebration is #WeAnswerTheCall. This motto was chosen to highlight the variety of roles nurses play in the healthcare system. To celebrate National Nursing Week, the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) encourages Canadians to consider the impact nurses have had in their lives and those they love. Consequently, they urge the public to share stories, pictures and expressions of thanks to nurses through social media, using the following hashtags: • #CNA2022 • #WeAnswerTheCall • #IKnowANurse • #NationalNursingWeek • #IND2022 • #Nurses2022 • #VoiceToLead

Youngest ever recipient of Sask. Volunteer Medal 202200504_News Optimist Ad_Mental Health Capacity.indd 1

By John Cairns Staff Reporter
Ishita Mann, who spent her high school years in North Battleford, is the youngest ever Canadian to receive the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. Mann, 19, was one of nine recipients of the 2021 Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. The recipients were announced in March byLt. Gov. Russ Mirasty, Mann received her medal at Government House April 26 along with the eight other recipients. When she initially got the call that she had won, Mann was in class at the University of Saskatchewan. “I felt very numb, because I never expected it to happen,” she said. “You know, when you volunteer your end goal is not to gain any kind ofrecognition or to receive any sort of award. So, it did take a lot of days for it to sink in that this had happened.” She said that when she

finally did receive the medal in Regina, “it became a reality and I figured, like, this was a very big deal. I just felt very grateful to whoever nominated me and who believed I am capable enough and deserving enough of an honour of such stature.” Mann has spenther life dedicated to volunteerism.
She is currently founder and CEO of YouthHelping Youth Saskatchewan, an organization that offers career mentorship advice and community involvement opportunities to support students academic and professional journey. She is also currently involved with Jack.org, the Amal Club and the Arts and

Trumpeter swans are migrating through Saskatchewan to the north. These very graceful looking birds are a sure sign of spring. The yellow spot in front of the eye and the very black feet and bill are very distinctive in the mature bird. These majestic swans were killed for their down and soft skin, which was made into powder puffs in the early 1900s. Gourmets also loved to eat their eggs. They have been a protected species since 1916. Their numbers are now in the thousands in North America. | Photo and text by Jim McLane

Sciences Student Union. At the University of Saskatchewan, Mann is a cellular, physiological and pharmacological sciences student and a Chancellor Scholar. Mann was born in India and lived in various communities inCanada but spent her high school years in North Battleford. But Mann said her volunteering spirit began at an early age. She recalls that her maternal grandfather used to take her to the homeless shelter and the animal shelter starting when she was three. For her, it was an activity she did every Saturday and Sunday. “Back home, for me volunteering was just something fun I did to get to know more people in my community and kind of learn about different experiences,” Mann said. When she moved to North Battleford, she looked up various organizations and started getting involved.
While attending North Battleford Comprehensive High School, she was an active volunteer including for Battlefords Union Hospital, The Lighthouse, Battlefords Boys and Girls Club, and with meals on wheels. Mann had spearheaded a meals on wheels project during the pandemic, worked on that project with the Battlefords Union Hospital and with Darlene Kingwell, her mentor there. Mann said that Youth Helping Youth Saskatchewan came about following her involvement in the SHAD Canada program at York University, which she was selected to attend. “I always had an entrepreneurial spirit in me, and I wanted to do something more meaningful with my time,” said Mann. She noticed when she came back to Saskatchewan there was a gap in supports for access to opportunity compared to Ontario or British Columbia.

(306) 445-5700
What she decided to do was “create a platform, basically, where I would be sharing opportunities, whether that be jobs whether that be internships, scholarships and even just some tricks that I kind of read myself online about how to become a more professional and better individual.” She said it really took off during the pandemic. “It’s been a crazy ride ever since and we’ve done a lot of projects in the community, and we’re happy and very excited to continue doing our work.” Other recipients of the 2021 Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal are:Noela Bamford, Regina; Bob Bjarnason, Churchbridge; Velma Harasen, Regina; Major (Ret’d) Keith Inches, CD, Regina; Captain (Ret’d) Cathy Sarich, CD, Saskatoon; Bob White, Rosetown; Joyce Willick, Spiritwood; and Elaine Wirtz, Wadena.

Thanks also to those who took the time to tour the show. I am grateful for the privilege of displaying at least a portion of my 35 years of work.

Their next tentative practice date will be May 17, at the Do Drop In at 10 a.m. The Lions’ Club report the golf cart did some travelling with the ice before it

Mayfair News: Library hosting plant sale May 28 By Elaine Woloshyn Correspondent
Farmers have started to seed in our area so there is extra traffic on all highways and side roads, so please be a defensive, alert driver. The ground has soaked up all of that heavy snow cover that slowly melted. There were no catastrophic scenes with water rushing and wrecking the roads this spring. Mayfair Library is hosting their annual plant sale
at Dora and Barry Brown’s farmyard Saturday, May 28 starting at 9 a.m. Dora and Denise Taylor from Hafford will have a large assortment of annuals, biennials and perennials. Anyone interested in having a table of garage sale items is also welcome. For more information call Teresa at 306 246-4812 or Dora at 306 246-4848. The library also has books of all kinds for sale at 25 cents and magazines at 10 cents each. Need
honey? Again, what better place than at the library? One litre of liquid honey is $10, creamed honey is $12. This comes from a honey farm in Spiritwood. Georgina and John Youst returned the end of March from their Dominican Republic vacation that they’ve been enjoying for a number of years. They were gone for two and a half months. Different people in our area vacation for a week or two but with COVID still
in existence most chose to stay and endure the cold winter. The Meeting Lake Regional Park concession is now open to the public. Tammy and Sandy are busy setting up their kitchen and are informing the public for this week the store hours are from 4 to 9 p.m. They sold many takeout meal orders on Mother’s Day. The inside small dining area got crowded at times. Lorna and Russell
Buziak of Whitkow left April 5 to visit relatives on Vancouver Island. They flew to Victoria where they saw her brother Quenton and Heather, then to Duncan to visit his brother, Stanford and Joanne. Although it wasn’t warm near the ocean, they did walk the beaches looking at many different sculptures and drift wood. The vacation was 10 glorious days and, at one point, they rented a cabin in Renfrew.
Rabbit Lake library is advertising for a substitute librarian. Previous experience is preferred but not necessary. The library is open three days a week. For information email admin.manager@lakeland. lib.sk.ca or phone 306 4456108 extension 228 or fax 306 445-5717. Also, in this small village, the seniors’ centre is having a potluck supper Thursday, May 19. The cost is $5 and one doesn’t have to be a member to attend.

Local volunteer named to Sask. Baseball Hall of Fame By Sherri Solomko Columnist
Our community is proud to learn Mary Anne Gaetz has been named to the 2022 induction into the Sask. Baseball Hall of Fame. A five-decade career volunteering with all levels of baseball in the scorekeeping booth has already earned her the volunteer of the year award. Also included in this induction class is St. Peter’s principal Kelvin Colliar. Colliar is co-commissioner for the NSRBL and has a long history with baseball, baseball programming and leadership roles. I forgot to mention in the last column the efforts of dozens of volunteers who took part in a complete cleanup of the ball diamonds May 1. The effort by players, parents, coaches and executive gathered dozens of big bags full of refuse. The same day a group of volunteers prepared the soccer fields for their season. The ball diamonds will be the go-to place this spring and summer as teams have begun their seasons. Friday night slopitch began April 29 and continues every Friday until the end of June. Minor ball has a full slate of teams in both baseball and softball divisions, with more than 200 kids registered in their program. The Unity Junior Cardinals will once again be part of the NSRBL and their season
begins May 19. You will notice soccer players on the fields too, right from the littlest soccer superstars to the senior kids. This weekend is the town-wide garage sale and you can contact the town office for a map of where all the sales will be. Did you know Unity has some remarkable milestone business recognitions in 2022 (from the year 2021)? As part of the virtual Celebrate Unity event it was noted that Mitchell Agencies is celebrating 70 years. Heitt’s Plumbing and Heating has been a mainstay business in Unity for 60 years. Sperle’s Tire is a second-generation family business that celebrated 50 years in 2021. There were also two 45year milestones, one 40year and one 35-year business milestone, all noted in the story in the local paper and on SASKTODAY.ca. Check it out. The golf course is now open and what a great turn out they had on opening day. The club has released their full slate of tournaments for the season which will kick off with the men’s and ladies’ open May 29 and will host seven other events right into the fall. The club welcomes new club house manager, Tara Pilat. You may still have time to register for the New Horizon’s 55+ Kaiser tournament by contacting Louise Robson. IN MEMORIAM LAYCOCK: On March 14, 2022 after a short courageous Battleford with cancer and COPD complications, Arvid Elmer Laycock passed away with his family by his side at the age of 83 years. Arvid was born September 7, 1938 in North Battleford, SK to Elmer and Elma, he was their second child. They grew up on the family century farm 12 miles south of Battleford in the Eagle Hills Area. He spent his youth riding horses with his sister Julia and tending to cattle. While learning about the life of a farmer from his father and several uncles, Arvid was taught all the tricks of the trade and acquired the skill of fixing something with nothing but what was lying around the farm. After school Arvid moved to Edmonton to work, there he met and married Margaret Jacobson from Vegreville. Their first son, Anthony was born in Edmonton in 1958 and another son, Timothy was born in 1960. After they returned to North Battleford Arvid began to work for the CO-OP in the meat department for ten years Arvid and Margaret work at Wadena, Melfort, Unity, La Ronge and Biggar. In 1969 they returned to Battleford and he managed the CO-OP meat department. In the late 60’s Arvid purchased 80 acres of Land from his uncle Jay Laycock, and in 1969 he bought his father’s 1 Ω quarter when they retired (SE 3-42-16). In 1981 Tony purchased the family’s four generation homestead and Arvid retired in Battleford. He then took on the role of delivery guy for Roadex and delivered campers from the USA to numerous locations across Canada, enjoying the sights. He joined the Minus One Club in Saskatoon and was lucky enough to share a dance with Jane Unger who became his life partner. Arvid enjoyed many years of dancing and playing cards with their condo friends in Saskatoon, and many special occasions with Jane’s family. Arvid was very lovingly cared for by Jane until his last days of life spent at Glengarda Hospice in Saskatoon where he received the ultimate care. Arvid will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by, Jane; Arvid’s sister, Julia Inness and her children: Ella Mary and family and Arvid Kuhnle; his son, Tony and wife, Donna; Tony’s sons: Curtis (Sarah, Shane, Jaycee) and Brett (Susan, Daniel, Rowan, Arya) and Tim (Corinne Michaud) and Tim’s children: Jordan, Michelle & Danielle. The family would like to thank Glengarda Hospice in Saskatoon for their thoughtfulness and compassion during this difficult time. A Graveside Service will take place Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the Town of Battleford Cemetery in the Laycock Section at 2 pm. Condolences for the family can be left at www.eternalmemoriesfuneral.ca Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Trevor Watts of Eternal Memories Funeral Service & Crematorium.

Only three possibilities – Lord? Liar? Lunatic? Most people are ready to answer anyone who asks them about the hope they have in their favourite sport’s team. Often, they have great enthusiasm because of the team’s key players or the winning reputation of the team’s coach. Cooks and bakers are ready to tell everyone who wants to know how good their recipe is because they have used it many times with great success. We gladly share with others when they ask the reason for our hope in something or someone. Christians hope in God not themselves. The celebration of Christmas Day finds Christians ready to share the joy of Jesus’s birth at

According to Ed By Raymond Maher

raymaher085@gmail.com Bethlehem. We readily proclaim Jesus’s resurrection and His victory over death at Easter. The scripture readings from the book of Acts during the Easter Season reflect hope. The hope His disciples expressed to those who questioned them about their faith in Jesus resulted in many of them
also becoming believers in Jesus. They too began to share life-changing faith in Jesus. The disciple Peter taught believers with these words, “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to answer everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.
But do this with gentleness and respect.” (1 Peter 3:15) The disciples were not afraid to speak of Jesus of Nazareth. They proclaimed, “Let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, who you crucified, both Lord and Christ. (Acts 2:36) You disowned Him (Jesus), the Holy and Righteous One, but God raised from the dead. We are witnesses of this. (Acts 3:14-5) Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12) Peter said that Jesus was the Christ (the anointed one), the Son of the living God. (Matthew 16:16) Jesus claimed
to be God in answer to the high priest before the Sanhedrin. Jesus said, “I am,” when asked, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?” (Mark 14:61) The world has long debated concerning Jesus. Is He God/Lord? True or False? Either Jesus truly is God as He claimed to be and ought to be reverenced and worshiped as the Son of God, or Jesus is not God. If Jesus was not God as he claimed, he must have been either a liar or a lunatic. If Jesus was a lair, he was an exceptional fraud deceiving countless people. A pretender who fooled others and continues to fool many.
If Jesus was a lunatic, he was delusional. He genuinely thought he was God, but he wasn’t. C. S. Lewis was the first to argue there are only three possibilities for Jesus – Lord? Liar? Lunatic? In discussing who Jesus was or is, one cannot leave out God’s love for mankind in Jesus. It is no lie that all people sin in thought, word or deed. The result of sin is death, but God sent Jesus to take the punishment of our sins on himself. God so loved the world that He sent Jesus, His Son, to save the world. Whoever believes in Jesus shall not perish but have life in his name now and eternal life in heaven. (John 3:16-18)

Renovations complete: all welcome to enjoy ambiance By Pastor David L. Walker Turtleford Baptist Church
May has arrived and I would like to extend a belated Mother’s Day wish to all you wonderful mothers. There has always been something special about mothers. Excavators among the ruins of Pompeii came
upon the body of a child with outstretched arms. Exclaimed one, “There is a mother here somewhere.” Excavating in the direction of the outstretched arms they found the mother’s body. Here at TBC we had a wonderful Easter morning. The photo booth was a big
success, as well as tables of treats and snacks. Of course, our worship service celebrating our Saviour’s resurrection was a blessing to all in attendance. Renovations are completed now, providing a more pleasant environment to meet with God and to enjoy fellowship.
In April we had 13 out to the GGMH hymn sing, with a time of fellowship in the lower auditorium. Singing is a great part of heaven, so why not prepare a little in advance. The next GGMH hymn sing is 6 p.m. May 29. Hope to see you. In June, we are planning
