Beirut Arab University redefines its Ambulatory Care Center through innovative practices and qualitative approaches that simplify the way healthcare services are delivered. As an accredited University, we are proud of our reputation to attract and retain the brightest professionals and talents in the field of medical care. BAU is in the midst of a system-level strategic planning process to proactively shape a positive future for the university and its community. Strategic leadership and oversight are provided for medical affairs, physician leadership development, patient safety, patient care quality, and value-based health provision that leads to medical-promotion programs at BAU. BAU Ambulatory Care Center (BAUACC) is committed to provide high quality comprehensive patient-centered care based on predefined treatment plans and affordable costs under the supervision of qualified academic and nonacademic staff, healthcare professionals, and students. Introduction Beirut Arab University Healthcare Center (BAUHC) is the right place where a team of competent and empathetic physicians, nurses, and health care providers treat patients with respect and compassion to deliver high quality as well as affordable care for them. The Center offers a wide range of medical specialties: Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Ear, Nose & Throat, Endocrinology, Neurology, Cardiology, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, and Pulmonary.

Opening Hours

BAUHC serves as the first point of contact for the community with health professionals. It provides ambulatory medical services in a safe environment. The design of BAUHC ensures quality of care, operational efficiency, and most importantly, patient satisfaction. BAUHC comprises five clinics for different medical and surgical specialties. The physical settings in each clinic promote privacy and confidentiality of the patient, reinforce infection control measures, and ensure a smooth flow of patients and healthcare professionals. Other rooms are available for health counseling, immunization, ultrasound imaging, treatment, and minor procedures. An important section of BAUHC is the pharmacy that guarantees medication dispensing with proper instructions to patients. Specialized centers for diagnostic imaging, laboratory testing, and physiology assessment are also available to support the physicians in making the right diagnosis and prescribing appropriate treatment.

Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The Center is closed on official holidays.

BAUHC is well equipped to support the mission and vision of the center. High-end user-friendly equipment is available to deliver quality services. Ophthalmology and ENT units, Ultrasound machines, EEG and EMG machines, Pulmonary Function Test machine, Audiology machines, and Noninvasive Cardio/Cardiopulmonary Stress Test machines are examples of the facility’s medical equipment. In addition, digital cameras, connected to medical devices, along with large smart led displays aim to improve teaching of medical, nursing, and other health professions students and trainees. Finally, BAUHC utilizes an advanced Health Information System to enhance patient care, data collection, usage and facilitates the adoption of informed decisions at the management and research activity levels.

Clinical Simulation Center (CSC)

Introduction The Clinical Simulation Center (CSC) was established to provide a training facility that gives opportunity for undergraduate and graduate medical students to practice skills required in a safe environment without posing risk to patients. It is committed to provide high quality simulation and healthcare training to encourage education and assessment of clinical skills and activities and promote community engagement.

Services CSC improves the clinical skills of students throughout their medical faculty years by: - Allowing students to practice history taking, arts of doing a physical examination and procedural skills such as putting in a blood line, nasogastric tube insertion, lumbar puncture or intubation. - Holding several workshops for undergraduate and graduate students and physicians in order to develop important surgical and laparoscopic skills. - Carrying out assessment of clinical skills with the help of simulated participants and through the conduction of OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) and OSPEs (Objective Structured Practical Examination).

Facilities CSC comprises five simulation rooms one of them is the Constructive Scenario Room. The scenario room is equipped with state-of-the-art computerized mannequins that displays symptoms of reallive patients. The room is fully wired for audio and video services so that academic staff are able to watch students’ performance from the central control room and provide post-procedural training in a debriefing session after being displayed by the group. In addition to the simulation rooms, there are available patient history taking and examination rooms, where students can practice taking medical histories and refine their bedside manner with standardized patient-actors. In addition, there are available part task trainers, where students could practice doing their procedural skills such as lumbar puncture, intravenous line insertion, nasogastric tube intubation etc… These enable students to acquire the clinical skills necessary prior to their graduation.

Opening Hours Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. In certain events, such as workshops, the opening hours are further extended as required.

Dental Clinics

Introduction BAU Dental Clinics provide high quality patient care through adhering to the principles of ethics and code of professional conduct. They aim at maintaining an environment for clinicalbased research that targets community needs. The Dental Clinics include: Diagnosis Clinics, Clinics A, Clinics B, Clinics C, Implantology Clinic, Pediatric Dentistry Clinic, Special Care Clinic, Specialty Clinics 1, Specialty Clinics 2, and Centre of Excellence.

Services Dental care is provided by dental students supervised by qualified academic staff and clinical assistants. A full range of the following dental services are provided for adults and children according to the following: - Endodontics - Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics - Implantology - Operative and Esthetic Dentistry - Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery - Orthodontics - Pediatric Dentistry - Periodontology

Facilities The Dental Clinics are well-equipped with state-of-theart dental units and supportive equipment (CBCT, in-office bleaching unit, surgical operating microscope, etc...). Sterilization Rooms: All clinics are supplied with sterilization rooms that follow infection control guidelines according to Centers for Disease Control (CDC). X-ray Rooms: A Panoramic X-ray machine, Cephalometric, Periapical and Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) to serve the diagnosis and treatment planning of all specialties. Clinics Prosthetic Lab: For quick lab work. In-School Technical Lab: For fabrication of all types of removable and fixed restorations along with virtual prosthetic designs. CAD CAM Unit: For virtual prosthetic designs and fabrication. An open up-to-date system specialized in CAD of different restorations, as well as CAM units capable of dry and wet milling of different materials. It can export its STL file to be manufactured.

BAU Life Support Center (‎BAULS)‎ Touching lives

Introduction BAU Life Support Center (‎BAULS) was established to prepare healthcare students, healthcare providers, and the general public to effectively respond and handle life threatening emergencies in a standardized evidence-based professional manner through knowledge awareness, skill enhancement, and hands-on practical training programs.

Services BAULS provides American Heart Association (AHA) certified Basic Life Support Courses to the following target groups: - BAU Students (Medical, Health Sciences, Pharmacy, and Dentistry) - BAU Students (Non-medical Faculties) - BAU Academic Staff - BAU Non-academic Staff - BAU Clinics (Dental, Physiotherapy, Healthcare Center…) - Other Healthcare Professionals - Community / General Public

Facilities BAULS International Training Center Authorized by the American Heart Association; is always keen to provide the community with the needed training to respond to life threatening emergencies. Usually training sessions are provided on a weekly basis or more in case demanded. Courses that can be offered include but are not limited to “Basic Life Support”, “First Aid”, and other training courses. As for facilities, this Center uses dolls that mimic the real life patient of victim, and should not be mentioned in the catalogue.

Clinic for Nutritional and Weight Management (NWM) Eat Wisely, Smile Nicely

Introduction Clinic for Nutritional and Weight Management (NWM) was established to provide an essential platform for students at the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics to promote and enhance their professional skills in medical nutrition therapy in outpatient settings. It offers a supporting environment for ongoing clinical research and promotion of healthy lifestyles in the community and prevention of nutrition-related diseases.

Services NWM - Clinic provides a high-standard clinical services, namely: - Management of obesity by means of an innovative lifestyle modification program based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Obesity (CBT-OB) widely adopted in Europe and USA. - Regulation of eating disorders by means of a specialized form of CBT called Enhanced Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT-E). - Management of the most widespread non-communicable diseases (i.e. metabolic syndrome, prediabetes and type 2 diabetes, hyperlipidemia, cardiovascular diseases etc.) by following the most up-to-date evidence-based guidelines. - Management of other diseases that require special nutritional interventions: • Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease and Gastritis • Lactose Intolerance • Celiac Disease • Chronic Constipation and Intestinal Flatulence • Vitamin D Deficiency and Osteoporosis Nutrition Guide

Facilities Nutrition and Dietetic students use the anthropometric measuring equipment available at the lab and clinic such as the skin fold calipers, stadiometer and the Inbody fat analyzer to assess patients’ nutritional status. They also use food models, visual aid posters and the MyPlate model to educate our patients about healthy eating habits. The dietitians at NWM - Clinic use the indirect calorimeter machines as well as other anthropometric measuring equipment to assess patients’ nutritional status and provide them with the CBT-OB treatment. They also use the machines for research purposes to improve educational attainment in Lebanon and worldwide. The dietitians also use educational materials such as food models, posters, and lifestyle guidelines for the most common diseases in the world in order to increase awareness and provide patients with selfmanagement skills.

Physical Therapy Outpatient Clinic (PTOC)

Introduction The Physical Therapy Outpatient Clinic (PTOC) acts as a site for outstanding clinical education for students. The clinic performs services to the community by administering physical therapy for outpatients and supporting staff and student research. It supplies the highest standards of care, exhibits a futuristic vision, and empowers its clients with the knowledge, skills, and capabilities to achieve and maintain an optimal healthcare status. The PTOC also aims to provide an attractive environment for continuous research and life-long learning for students and the community.

Services PTOC specializes in the following areas: - Offering physical therapy services in evidence-based musculoskeletal, sports, neurological, pediatric, cardiopulmonary, geriatric, and women’s health rehabilitation; - P roviding health promotion and prevention counseling; - Serving as a venue for offering specific professional courses related to the physical therapy profession; - Offering courses that address contemporary topics given by department academic staff or national and international experts in collaboration with the Center for Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE) at BAU.

Facilities PTOC is equipped with advanced basic physical therapy equipment along with all teaching facilities to serve as a ready access to patients and students and to raise the professional capabilities of physical therapy applicants. The PTOC embraces fifteen individual therapy units and a gym for group therapy. Being equipped with the latest, sophisticated equipment for physical therapy evaluation and treatment, including an innovative, cutting edge, rehabgaming tool that provides comprehensive patient care for the functional rehabilitation process for endless cases such as amputation, balance training, etc.….

BAU Ambulatory Care Center (BAUACC) aims at developing an environment of comprehensive care that responds to community needs and ensures patient safety and satisfaction. They focus on treating the person as a whole, listening to the community they serve to better understand its concerns, and planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the provided services. BAUACC is committed to provide the highest quality healthcare training and education programs that serve BAU patients, stakeholders, and the local community through application of internationally recognized accredited programs and preparedness of instructors and sites coordinators. The Clinics also perform continuous supervision and assessment of the administered care according to a treatment plan schedule to ensure patient safety. BAUACC staff strictly supervise the delivered treatment, where patient satisfaction surveys and patient’s complaints are continuously taken into consideration to guarantee the quality of services. Workshops and up-to-date training sessions are carried out to provide the best simulation training, education, and assessment, to ensure readiness of the team, and to deliver regular awareness and training programs to the local community.
