What you need to know about Foreign Travel The time is upon us to get out and explore, but did you know that if you are Military or a DoD employee there are limits to where you can go? Have you ever wanted to go see the pyramids of Egypt – sorry, it’s not authorized for all military and DoD civilian personnel right now. Maybe you want to golf in Dubai – you may be able to do it, but you’re going to have to complete some additional paperwork and be approved by an O-6 before you can go! Before making your travel plans, if you are a Service member or a DOD/DA civilian, you need to check the DoD Electronic Foreign Clearance Guide here. Failure to adhere to the FCG may lead to disappointment, lost ticket costs, and maybe even your career. If you have a clearance, you are also required to contact your S2/Security Manager to receive a Foreign Travel Briefing and let them know about your travel plans.

Free Annual Pass to National Parks for Military and Dependants Active duty military members and their dependants qualify for a free annual pass to all National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands. Plan ahead when traveling to Italy Did you know ONLY active duty military personnel; federal employees and government contractors who are authorized logistical support and have valid TDY orders in Italy may purchase a limited supply of fuel coupons? If you are headed south of the Alps on leave, be sure to budget for host nation fuel prices. For more information, click the Vicenza FAQs page here: http://bit.ly/H3D1Kz.

Protect yourself – Motorcycle safety Riding a motorcycle is one of the most wonderful activities, but also one of the most dangerous and statistics of motorcycle accidents rise rapidly during the spring time. The below listed tips shall help assist you in Technical preparation of your motorcycle for this upcoming season. Tires: Tires are a critical safe component. Inspect tire pressure at least weekly if in daily use or before each trip, if used occasionally. Use only approved tires. Using non-approved tires can adversely affect stability, which could result in death or serious injury. Check the tread depth of your tires. It must be at least 1/16 of an inch (1.6 millimeters) over the entire traction surface. Brakes: Improperly service brakes can adversely affect brake performance. Inspect front and rear brake pads and brake discs for wear. Check the fluid level in the front and rear master cylinder reservoir. Change brake fluid every two years. Always take your motorcycle to a certified dealer for brake system maintenance! Battery: If the motorcycle will not be operated for several months, such as during the winter season, remove the battery from the motorcycle and fully charge. Clean cable connectors, battery terminals, battery screws, clamps, and cables. Engine oil: Engine oil is a major factor in the performance and service life of the engine. Check oil level before starting the engine. If it is necessary to add oil, always use the proper grade of oil. Chain and sprockets: Make sure the chain and sprocket wear isn’t extreme. Check the chain tension. Most street riders run their chains too tight. Remember your chain tightens as the suspension compresses. A typical mistake is setting the tension without a rider on the bike which makes it much too tight when under load. And please remember chains do need an occasional cleaning and dose of lubrication.

U.S. Forces ration policy change for alcohol By Installation Management Command Europe: After a legal review and acceptance by U.S. Customs officials, the total number of liters of alcohol that can be purchased per person per month by U.S. Forces in some European counties is changed from 6.5 liters to 6 liters. Additionally, liqueurs with more than 33 percent alcohol by volume are now rationed along with distilled spirits (liquors). Five or more miniature bottles (.05 liters) purchased together are now also rationed. These changes affect Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Spain, and Turkey. U.S. Forces Ration Card, AE Form 600-702C, has been revised, and ration card holders will be issued the new ration card when their old one expires.
