A Veterans Day message from COL Saenz Bavaria Military Community Teammates, Throughout our nation’s history, Americans have answered the call to military duty on behalf of their fellow countrymen. This weekend, we honor these patriotic men and women, whose profound acts of citizenship — service in the U.S. armed forces — have safeguarded our country for 238 years and guaranteed our cherished rights. During this special long weekend, members of the Bavaria Military Community will be traveling to visit family and friends, or simply enjoying a final fall vacation before winter kicks in. Therefore, I’m asking for leaders at all levels to ensure our Soldiers, Civilians and Family members are aware of the hazards associated with changing weather conditions, especially in this part of Europe. And as we pay tribute to our veterans, please remember that we represent all of them, past and present, with our own personal actions. I cannot stress strongly enough that peers, subordinates, and supervisors must never tolerate, condone, or ignore sexual harassment or sexual assault. We all must have the personal courage to Intervene, Act, and Motivate others to take action when needed. Every person aware of any sexual assault should immediately report that incident. Above all this holiday, we must stand by our responsibilities. Leaders set an example in everything they do – from wearing a seatbelt to volunteering as a designated driver. Remember: When you take unnecessary risks or tolerate risky behavior from your Soldiers or friends, it always affects someone else, with devastating consequences sometimes. I challenge each of you to think “safety first” during this Veterans Day weekend. As teammates, we need you back at work, supporting the community. As friends, we want you to see you back here safe and sound, always. Thank you for everything you do for our Soldiers, Civilians and Families every day. COL James E. Saenz, commander USAG Bavaria

Commissaries to start scanning IDs Commissaries throughout the Department of Defense, including our local commissaries, will soon begin scanning customers’ ID cards. The change from checking ID cards to scanning them will give DeCA useful information about their customers so they can better tailor their services. Between 10 Nov and mid-January, stores will begin implementing the

scanning system. We’ll let the community know when the local commissaries will go live with the new policy once the information is available.

Thanksgiving Break Child Find: What is child-find screening? Preschool Child Find is a developmental screening for children ages 3-5 identifying children with developmental delays or other special education needs. For children under age 3 please contact EDIS at 09662-83-3221. What is the process? A Child Find team made up of the preschool special needs service provider, speech and language pathologists and the occupational therapist screen the children for developmental delays. These free screenings take place monthly. How does it work? Parent submits the Child Find questionnaire (which they can pick up in the office or find on the school website); they are set up with an appointment for the screening. When they come in for the screening the child must first pass a vision and hearing screen by our school nurse. Then they are screened by the team. If the child is suspected of having any delays the team will refer them for further formal evaluation. Why is it important? When learning challenges are identified at a young age, early intervention can help the child with learning tasks. If parents are interested, what do they need to do? They can go to the school’s website and find the link for Child Find. Under that link is a questionnaire they need to fill out and email back to the email address provided on the form. Someone will be in contact with them within 48 hours. If they do not hear back please contact the school at 09662 832812 and let them know what happened. (Just in case the email was rejected as SPAM) Continuous School Progress Goals: Goal 1: By 2016 all students will improve competency with numbers and operations as measured by increased performance on assessments.
