Why do You have a

Leaking CV Axle Shaft Seal in Car

The CV axle shaft seal is either a rubber or a metal seal that is placed at the point of interaction of your car's CV axle and the transmission or differential.

The CV axle shaft seal is what keeps fluid from leaking out of the transmission or differential housing as the CV axle rotates when the vehicle is in motion.

The differential transfers engine power from your transmission to the wheels, and lets your wheels to move and therefore, it requires to be lubricated along with your axle.

Even in some vehicles, the axle shaft seal also helps to keep the axle shaft in proper alignment with the transmission.

And when this axle shaft seal becomes bad, transmission fluid will leak and possibly create damage to the transmission or different

Usually, when there is a leaking CV axle shaft seal in your car, it is the result of the following reasons.

Most people won’t ever notice this or go searching for it, but one of the first signs that a CV axle shaft may need to be replaced is residue around the seal.

As the seal begins to wear, it may spring a small leak causing a thin layer of grease or transmission fluid to cover the area immediately around the seal.

The severity of the leak greatly depends on the amount of residual deposit around the axle seal.

One of the most common and probably most noticeable signs of a problem with one of the vehicle’s axle shaft seals is a puddle of fluid underneath the car.

When the axle shaft seal fails, oil or transmission fluid can leak from the transmission or differential.

If you notice these fluids are pooling under your car, especially after being parked, you should have your car serviced as soon as possible.

A transmission or differential with low fluid levels can quickly become damaged by overheating.

When the problem becomes severe, you will notice that the CV axle shaft seal is constantly popping out.

In some cars, this seal not only seals the transmission and axle intersecting surfaces but also supports the CV axle.

If the seal becomes damaged in any way, it may not be able to support the axle correctly making it prone to popping and loosening.

Depends on the severity of the leak, if there is significant fluid loss then the components like the transmission or the differential could eventually get damaged.

Therefore, an axle shaft seal that has become loose must be checked and immediate action must be taken to get the problem fixed.
