Reading Partners

You may recall reading about Reading Partners Silicon Valley, a literacy non-profit who offers 1-on-1 tutoring to students reading 6 months - 2 years below grade level last year.

Here’s the original story and now, thanks to your support, 300 books were provided to enrolled students, expanding home libraries and fostering a love for reading. Your contributions have also equipped the RPCx online tutoring program with Chromebooks, ensuring effective virtual learning.

Also, several Americorps volunteers were placed as tutors in classrooms. You’ve not just granted wishes, but you’ve also transformed lives.

And a direct result of the Wish Book story, Reading Partners welcomed 5 new passionate volunteers, committed to nurturing young readers.

Every donation, every book, every volunteer adds up to a brighter future for these deserving students. Whether you supported this particular wish or others, Wish Book donations have made a tangible impact on Reading Partners Silicon Valley, empowering K-4th grade students with vital resources.

Center for Employment Training

We’ve seen firsthand the transformative power of the Wish Book gifts at the Center for Employment Training (CET). Wish Book contributions have created life-changing opportunities for so many students like Maria, enabling them to not just stay in the program, but graduate and secure meaningful employment.

Maria’s journey wasn’t easy. She faced numerous hurdles, almost dropping out. But support through the Wish Book provided stability, allowing her to complete her training. Today, she’s employed at Adobe, enjoying a better salary and essential benefits for her family.

Maria’s story is a testament to the impact of workforce development training. And it doesn’t stop there. She’s actively promoting CET, inspiring others to seize the opportunity and create a better future.

A direct result of the Wish Book story were several invaluable connections with local employers interested in hiring CET graduates, aligning perfectly with CET’s goal of empowering students through job placements.

Maria’s success exemplifies the power of CET’s programs and the lasting impact they have on families. Thank you for helping Wish Book and CET continue to create opportunities and pathways to success!

The Mercury News Wish Book’s mission is to invite their readers to help neighbors in this community and charities in the Bay Area. Since its inception in 1983, The Mercury News Wish Book has raised more than $12 million.

Each year, from Thanksgiving Day through December, The Mercury News publishes a series of Wish Book stories focusing on special “Wishes” or needs from charities, organizations or local people.

Wishes can range from therapeutic equipment for children with autism, computers to help homeless people look for jobs and housing, holiday gifts for children in foster care, and so much more. Our generous readers help fulfill these wishes through donations.
