Rotary Square

Thanks to partners Rotary Club of Traverse City, the State of Michigan, Chemical Bank, TCF Bank, and Huntington Bank, a new vibrant place is coming to Traverse City that will embody the spirit of community. Rotary Square is a 20-year dream that will finally become a reality. Transforming the corner across from the post office on Union Street and Cass Street into a long-anticipated vision of a Civic Square bustling with activity.

As a commemoration of The Rotary Club of Traverse City’s 100 years of service to our region, Rotary Charities awarded a grant of $1 million to the Traverse City Downtown Development Authority. TCDDA will develop Rotary Square, a gathering space in the heart of downtown designed by, and for, the people of Traverse City. The possibilities are endless; A year-round hub where friends meet, musicians play, cultures mix, and ideas are shared. Maybe even the Christmas tree, Santa’s house and ice skating in the winter, or a farmer’s market, music, and place to eat and hang out in the summer months.

The immediate next steps will be demolition and planning. But it’s exciting news. Rotary’s motto is, “Service above self,” and with that they will certainly be serving all who gather.
