FOUNDER CARTER’S COMPOST FOUNDER NORTE FOUNDER GOOD WORKS LAB
You recently established a new organization
Good Works Lab, tell us what it is? “It’s a social change agency fueled by a team of professionals - scientists, researchers, advocates, storytellers, health professionals, artists, planners, photographers, designers, strategists, engineers, videographers, lawyers, and big thinkers. We translate passion and voice into action to solve complex community problems with science, urgency, and stubborn optimism.”
Your first project is an initiative for Traverse Area Public Schools (TCAPS) can you elaborate? “It’s a new district-wide health and wellness initiative for TCAPS made possible by a three-year $150,000 Rotary Charities Systems Change Accelerator Grant. It’s a team effort that’s working on creating, promoting, and sustaining policies and practices within the school district that lead to healthy, lifelong habits for students, teachers and staff.”
You are a community leader to so many people, who inspires you? “Tony Anderson. Kind, caring, strong runner, good friend, positive mentor and champion for our kids here in northern Michigan. I love that guy.”
Are there any words of wisdom that you live by? “Your tomorrow isn’t guaranteed - live accordingly.”
What is a surprising fact about you? “I’m color blind. Thanks, mom!”
What would your kids tell us about you? “I’m not handy around the house nor am I organized but
I’m always down for adventures - big and small. And beans and rice. I love beans and rice.”
What is one thing on your bucket list? “Leave this continent. I have lots of traveling to do. First up will be Thailand next year.
Can’t wait!”
If you could have a superpower, what would it be and why? “The power to go back in time. I’d go back to 2002 to spend more time with my dad before he died.
What 3 words best describe you? “Loyal. Impatient. Persistent.”
