The insider, Middle-Schooler
GUIDE TO
BAYLOR
Baylor will
make you feel all kinds of independent. That’s the thing about Middle School – it’s a lot more active! No more sitting in one room, with one teacher, all day long. Instead, you’ll move through the day by moving around campus, following your class rotation. You’ll
see different people and learn in different environments. But you won’t be by yourself, you’ll always be on the move with classmates and teachers.
What every future 6th-, 7th-, and 8th-grader
really needs to know to #LeadLikeBaylor.
Your parents won’t ever have to help you with your homework. Insert sigh of relief! We’re guessing it’s been a minute since your mom and dad studied equations. That’s why, at Baylor, teachers are there to help you with ALL your work, including the work that happens outside of class. We even have a Learning Center on campus where you can go for help with a project, a paper, even a whole subject.
Hogwarts? We may be biased, but… there’s something magical about this campus (the fact that Middle School spirit teams are sorted into close-knit groups only adds to the Harry Potter feel). Get ready to be all in for Dukes of Heywood, the Baylor Lakers, or The Luptonators.
There will be a lot of drama. As in, serious theater classes from improv to ensemble work to stagecraft (plus a ton of other art offerings: music, dance, studio art, and digital design). As for that other kind of drama? It happens sometimes, but at Baylor, we work through it. Your Middle School Advisor is always there to talk to about anything that’s going on. Academic, social, personal, anything.
Learn to say “hey” in Chinese – and German and Spanish and French and Latin. At Baylor, we’re big on gaining a global perspective. You’ll study five world languages in sixth grade, not just one or two.
Afternoons are WILD. When classes end, the day really gets going. In the afternoons, you can choose from 28 different sports teams (athletics at Baylor are a BIG DEAL), or more art classes, or you can take part in a club or special project. Feeling adventurous? Join Walkabout. It’s Baylor’s signature outdoor program that’ll have you trekking, rock climbing, kayaking, and wilderness-skills-ing.
Quick facts for parents “Hey, did you know…” • Baylor recruits nationally for faculty (more than 75% hold advanced degrees). • Has the third best overall high school sports program in the country, according to MaxPreps.com. • Offers multiple programs for leadership development. • Is the best possible preparation for Baylor Upper School, college, and beyond.
