Baylor students tutor kids at local schools through our afternoon Community Service Program, but their work doesn’t stop there. Their tutoring serves as a catalyst for researching and writing grants to help underserved children and neighborhoods, and to improve education opportunities for children in Kingston, Jamaica. Many of our graduates earn service scholarships to prestigious universities and pursue service careers around the world.

Students with a passion for the sciences can move beyond the traditional study of chemistry, biology, and engineering to an independent study track through the Baylor Research Program. Mentor-guided, students in the program are conducting university-level research in breast cancer, aquatic biology, virtual reality, and more. The program is supported with a $15 million endowment and led by Ph.D. faculty who are experts in their fields of study.

Situated on the banks of the Tennessee River and surrounded by mountains, Baylor’s spacious 690-acre campus offers students a chance to stretch their legs and their minds amid trees, trails, and the Tennessee River. Walkabout, our nationally-acclaimed outdoor program, takes you even further afield with rock-climbing and hiking excursions to surrounding mountains each afternoon.

Named by Sports Illustrated as one of the Top 25 high school athletic programs in the country, and by MaxPreps as the most dominant high school athletic program in Tennessee. Baylor has won more state championships than any other school in the state and our facilities and fields rival most small colleges. Four alums are currently playing on the PGA tour.

Our $14 million academic center opened in 2018, marking a historic $52.3 million fundraising milestone to improve classrooms, residential spaces, and dining facilities. Millions more have been raised over the years to enhance a 24/7 learning and living community that includes six dorms, a renovated library, student center, and athletic training facility.

A nationally acclaimed choir program anchors the Baylor arts, but students find expression in dance, theater, orchestra, digital design, painting, and photography, prepping for college-level classes and professional, creative careers with instructors who are working artists.

Our graduates earn millions of dollars in college scholarships each year and are accepted to colleges and universities in every region of the country and several countries abroad. The class of 2021 enrolled in over 90+ colleges and universities including Oxford, Penn, Harvard, and Yale.

LOCATION Located two hours from Atlanta, Knoxville,

Birmingham, and Nashville, Chattanooga was named “Best Town Ever” by Outside magazine. The vibrant downtown area is a five-minute drive from campus, affording students entertaining and relaxing weekend diversions, as well as opportunities to network and experience partnerships with local Chattanooga businesses, healthcare organizations, and universities.

HISTORY Founded as Baylor University School in 1893 in downtown Chattanooga, Baylor moved to its present location overlooking the Tennessee River in 1915 and operated as a military school from 1917-1971.

OUR COMMUNITY On average, Baylor welcomes boarding students from 15 countries and 24 states, and day students from dozens of area neighborhoods. There are six dorms, 40 teachers and coaches who live on campus with their families, and students from divergent backgrounds and cultures and numerous traditions.

OUR FACULTY When students arrive on campus each day, they’re welcomed by some of the leading minds in independent education. Baylor teachers have earned Fulbright Scholarships and the Presidential Award for Excellence, and more than 75 percent hold advanced degrees.
