What does it mean to be mindful? It means thinking carefully and acting intentionally. At Bay, students and teachers think carefully not only about academics but also about how we treat one another. Understanding what an author or classmate is saying, valuing one another even when we disagree, and sharing our

experiences – this is how Bay creates real connections. This mindful approach is vital as you enter a world where difficult questions often have no simple answers.
Community
Mindfulness
Building a Mindful Community
“ In the discussions, I think one of the most special things is seeing the entire class – every single kid – having a thoughtful opinion and taking it very seriously and discussing the things that are important... everyone really values everyone’s opinions.”
We begin the day as a full community. At Morning Meeting we gather to see one another and share. We might hear from a community innovator sharing her latest project, watch the cast from the fall play perform, see what the robotics class has just created or listen to a 9th-grader share a personal story. After, we take a few minutes to sit in silence because mindfulness helps us be better prepared for the day. Finally, we make birthday, sports, and community service announcements. Morning Meeting puts us all on the same page.
“ Bay students pride themselves on their authenticity, not their sameness. They do not live in fear of scrutiny but instead forge their own paths with creativity and bravery. Courage, self-expression, inclusion, kindness —these are the virtues that my classmates exhibit daily.”
