My WORLDVIEW is
MULTICULTURAL
Canada is one of the world’s most multicultural countries, often celebrated for its diversity. The city of Toronto has a population of 5.5 million, and just over 30 per cent speak a language other than English or French at home. Located in the heart of this vibrant city is Bayview Glen, a School that provides a top-tier learning experience where students are immersed in a co-educational and multicultural environment from the age of 2 (pre-school) to 17 (university entrance). The School provides exposure to a wealth of diverse languages and cultures in every classroom, because Bayview Glen has been committed to multiculturalism since our founding in 1962.
“Being in the real estate development business, I have a deep appreciation for the multiculturalism of our city and region, as it makes this one of the best places in the world to live. We chose Bayview Glen for our three sons because the School delivers a strong academic program in an environment that is co-educational, multicultural and diverse, and therefore prepares the boys for the world they will live in when they graduate. The School’s respect for different cultures and religions and differing points of view is perfectly aligned with our family’s values.”

INCLUSIVE
Bayview Glen teachers are selected for their ability to nurture, inspire and motivate students to reach their full potential. By encouraging individuality rather than a “one-size-fits-all” approach to education, Bayview Glen ensures students achieve their best results and are appreciated by the School community for their unique talents and abilities. The School invites parents to be involved participants in their child’s education and, as a result, they also become part of the inclusive community.
“Our family’s experience with Bayview Glen was absolutely remarkable. When a school becomes a real community, when it is as welcoming and compelling for the parents as it is to the students, you know you have stumbled upon a unique educational experience. Our daughters were so blessed and rewarded by their time there that they cannot wait to come back. From the depths of our hearts, you have our gratitude and admiration.”

RESPECTFUL
Bayview Glen’s purpose is to prepare young people for the challenges of university and life beyond graduation. Our programme begins at age two and continues through to university entrance, offering students a highly challenging academic, athletic, and character-building educational experience. Students in the Upper School are able to participate in the Advanced Placement (AP) programme, which provides the opportunity to achieve credit or placement in university level courses while enrolled in high school. Geared for highly motivated, goal-oriented independent students who demonstrate the skills and capabilities to excel, AP courses are a key component of the Grade 12 year for many Bayview Glen students.
“Having been at Bayview Glen all my life, the quality of education there was something I took for granted until first-year university. While friends from other high schools struggled, my rigorous Bayview Glen education put me ahead of the curve. I had already studied Economics as an AP course, and I was very strong in Business and Mathematics. I was able to spend more time on extra-curricular activities, including the Investment Club, which led me to my career in Finance.”

COMPASSIONATE
Experiential learning through Round Square, Duke of Edinburgh Awards and Outdoor Education Programmes take our students outside of their comfort zone and help them to appreciate what life has to offer from a fresh perspective. Exposure to different cultures, understanding the importance of empathy, and valuing the natural environment are all key outcomes for Bayview Glen students. “Bayview Glen gave me the chance to travel and see how other people live. I went to Australia for six months at the age of 15; the following year I went to India as a volunteer for two months – where there was no electricity or running water and we were living in tents. These two experiences completely changed my worldview! Bayview Glen planted the seeds of wanting to move around and see the world, not as a tourist, but actually living in different cultures.”

ADVENTUROUS
Throughout their time at the School, our students participate in community service, work projects, exchange programmes and rewarding life experiences that demand courage, generosity, imagination, principle and resolution. Upon graduation, Bayview Glen students are well prepared to take on the challenges of university and life with enthusiasm and confidence.
“Bayview Glen was so international – with teachers and students from all over the world. I remember there were about 20 of us in the class, and we went through all the grades together, so it felt like we grew up together over the years. Having come from a different country, Bayview Glen’s multicultural mix of students ensured I never felt alone or different, and fostered in me the tenacity, energy and commitment needed to succeed.”

The School’s signature: “Whole Child. Whole Life. Whole World.” is the foundation of an individualized learning program that encompasses each child’s time at school, life at home, and service to the community. Bayview Glen ensures our students grow up with an informed worldview, developing skills that last a lifetime and take them anywhere in the world with ease. This is our promise to society.

BAYVIEW GLEN DELIVERS ON THE PROMISE BY FOCUSING ON 3 KEY AREAS:
INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATION
Enriching our curriculum with a very strong art, music and drama provision, plus an extensive sports programme means Bayview Glen students make activity choices ranging from football and volleyball to tennis, ballet and tap dancing. Earning university credits in advance; at least 94% of our Grade 12 students participate in Advanced Placement. Gaining acceptance; 100% of Bayview Glen graduates are accepted to leading universities, nationally and internationally, year after year.
INTERNATIONAL IMMERSION IN CO-EDUCATIONAL CLASSROOMS
Providing exposure to a wealth of diverse languages and cultures in every classroom – because Bayview Glen has been committed to multiculturalism since our founding in 1962. Practicing leadership in mixed gender settings with positive peer role models prepares our graduates for co-ed life in families and workplaces. Experiencing other cultures’ traditions throughout the year at assemblies focused on a variety of topics, including Black History, Ramadan, Chinese New Year, Christmas, Diwali, Easter, Hannukah and Passover. Gaining international exposure by participating in Round Square, the worldwide association of 80 schools that enables participants to travel between schools, visit foreign countries and become involved in international community service projects.
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
Learning through experience by participating in Round Square, Duke of Edinburgh Awards and Outdoor Education Programmes, our students develop the ability to work in teams, problem-solve, face challenges and communicate what they have learned. Expanding and constantly improving our experiential learning opportunities, with an emphasis on understanding and preserving the natural environment. “Nurturing and supporting the whole child and preparing students to become responsible, successful and caring global citizens will always shape our decision-making,” says Eileen Daunt, Head of School. “We are a young school that is still building on its traditions, and that allows us to be flexible and progressive in our approach.”
