1992 ”Sejajar dengan perkembangan pasaran kewangan dan sekuriti, Kerajaan Beta bercadang menubuhkan Suruhanjaya Sekuriti yang bertujuan mengawal industri sekuriti yang tunggal. Penubuhan Suruhanjaya tersebut adalah selaras dengan matlamat Kerajaan untuk menjadikan Kuala Lumpur sebagai sebuah pusat kewangan di rantau ini. Adalah menjadi harapan kita supaya instrumen-instrumen baru, seperti opsyen di atas sekuriti dan dagangan masa hadapan kewangan serta dagangan masa hadapan komoditi akan diperkenalkan kepada umum.”

1996 The first Shariah Advisory Council (SAC) was formed by the SC in 1996. The establishment of the SAC has played a key role in the development of Malaysia’s Islamic capital market.

1999 The then Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad officiates the opening of the new Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) building. It was witnessed by SC’s first Chairman Tan Sri Dr. Munir Majid and hundreds of invited guests.

1999 The opening ceremony of the SC building, with staff gathering along the corridors in anticipation. In his speech, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad said: “The SC plays an important role in the securities industry that is often exposed to various misconduct and wrongdoings. But the SC’s supervision work should not be too stringent that could hamper companies seeking listing to the KLSE. Otherwise, it will delay the process and increase listing costs.”

In Malaysia, the rules and regulations governing the securities industry are outlined in the Securities Commission Act 1993 and other relevant laws.

badan-badan yang mentadbir dan menyelaras pasaran modal melalui sebuah pengawal iaitu Suruhanjaya Sekuriti. YBMK telah mengumumkan bahawa

Suruhanjaya yang akan ditubuhkan pada 1992 akan diberi ruang dan kuasa yang secukupnya bagi mengawasi pasaran dengan berkesan.

Prior to 1976, the securities industry was almost entirely self-regulatory. Over the years, there has been increased interest by investors as more companies come for listing as well as to raise funds from the corporate securities markets. As the capital market has become more important source of funds, the need to rationalise and streamline the legislative and regulatory framework for the Malaysian securities industry has become critical.

2009 The then Raja Muda of Perak Raja Nazrin Shah and the then Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at a private dinner to mark the opening of the World Capital Markets Symposium (WCMS). The SC hosted the inaugural symposium, which took place in Kuala Lumpur.

The then Raja Muda of Perak Raja Nazrin Shah delivered the keynote address at the inaugural WCMS in 2009. The two-day symposium tapped the thoughts of opinion leaders, policymakers and market players as they discussed and interacted with participants on Asia’s role in reshaping financial intermediation services and changes in the regulatory architecture.

2010 The inaugural Royal Award for Islamic Finance was awarded to Shaikh

Saleh Abdullah Kamel on 25 October 2010 at a gala dinner in Kuala Lumpur. The award was presented by the then Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Sultan of Kedah. Mohyedin Saleh Kamel, the son of Shaikh Saleh Abdullah Kamel, received the award on behalf of his father.

2022 HRH Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, the Sultan of Perak and the Royal Patron for Malaysia’s Islamic Finance Initiative, at the 13th SC-OCIS Roundtable held on 10 September 2022 at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies.

2013 “It was in 1992 and (then Finance Minister) Anwar Ibrahim asked me to head the SC, an offer that I accepted. People thought the SC would be a modernised version of the CIC (Capital Issues Committee). But that was not so. The SC would be a regulatory and supervisory authority, it would have teeth.”

2014 Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin launching SC’s InvestSmart Programme at Taylor’s University. The then SC Chairman Tan Sri Ranjit Ajit Singh stressed the importance of investors being empowered with the right knowledge to become informed participants in the capital market.

2015 The big Kelantan floods. In response to the disaster, SC staff came together to help out by organising collections for donations of food, clothing and other essential items.

2016 The SC’s flagship digital finance event, SCxSC was officially launched by the then Second Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. Following the introduction of six registered P2P financing platform operators at the event, Malaysia became the first country in Southeast Asia to regulate peer-to-peer (P2P) financing.

2021 The then Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz launching the third Capital Market Masterplan (CMP3). The CMP3 serves as a strategic framework for the growth of Malaysia’s capital market over the next five years.

2023 Marking SC’s 30th anniversary at a staff townhall, the SC Chairman Dato’ Seri Dr. Awang Adek Hussin honours the staff who have been with the SC for the past 30 years.

2023 Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin witnessed the signing of an MoU between MOHE and the SC to jointly develop a Capital Market Graduate Programme, with the goal of addressing the shortage of talent in the capital market industry.

2015 MoU inked between Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand on cross-border offerings of products. The Streamlined Review Framework, an initiative under the ACMF Implementation Plan endorsed by the ASEAN Finance Ministers, will enhance ASEAN’s attractiveness as a fundraising centre.

2017 The SC launched a five-year Islamic Fund and Wealth Management Blueprint (IFWM Blueprint) to plan the medium and long-term strategic direction for Malaysia’s Islamic fund and wealth management industry to create a conducive ecosystem that meets the growing needs of the global market.
