Letter from the Mayor

Greetings!

The City of DeWitt invites you to come and experience our family-friendly community. We have much to offer in addition to a traditional downtown, family friendly neighborhoods, first-rate schools, numerous recreational activities including the Looking Glass River, and proximity to Michigan State University, an international airport, and Lansing, our State capitol. The City of DeWitt is a friendly place where families want to live, friends love to visit, and local businesses thrive.

Susan Leeming Mayor Our City provides excellent services and yet local taxes have not increased in many years. City police are engaged with our children in the schools and with residents in the community, keeping our neighborhoods safe. The City provides early morning snow removal; fall curbside leaf pick up (which turns into free mulch!); and trash, yard waste, large item and recycling pickup. The Downtown Development Authority, the City, the DeWitt Area Chamber and the Memorial Association sponsor a number of events (in normal, non-COVID times) throughout the year including summer car shows and farmer’s markets, a Christmas Market, Cabin Fever Reliever in March, and of course, the annual Ox Roast Celebration every August. Community support in DeWitt is unbelievable! Every year the DeWitt Millennium Garden Club creates the most beautiful bridge boxes and fills the planters downtown with gorgeous color. The Club also keeps the Healing Garden and labyrinth at the Cemetery and our parks looking sharp. DeWitt has been a named Tree City for 29 years, demonstrating our longstanding commitment to urban forests and the environmental benefits they provide. Many civic organizations are also active in the City. We are proud to provide the DeWitt community with five quality parks that serve people of all ages with basketball courts, soccer fields, play structures, pavilions, grills, kayak/canoe launch, and restrooms. We are committed to supporting the excellent quality of living in the City of DeWitt through recreation and leisure activities. The Bicycle and Pedestrian Pathways are popular all year round in our active community. The City has partnered with DeWitt Township to create the DeWitt Area Recreational Authority which has provided excellent year round programming and an extremely popular summer day camp program for over 15 years. The City of DeWitt is a small town with a big heart. We have seen this highlighted during the Covid-19 Pandemic with neighbors checking on and helping neighbors, and many neighborhood-originated activities, such as scavenger hunts and driveway chalk art. If you walk through our downtown, I guarantee that you will be greeted by folks and welcomed into any of our businesses by the owners/managers. Come join us for a walk through our beautiful City of DeWitt!
