The trick is to put someone on the bow who can spot sandy spots, and then drop the anchor in sand. Last year, our anchoring was flawless; this year not so much. After six sets, and a dead windlass, we gave up and threw out most of our chain. We ended up with a good grab toward the middle of the bay, which is usually not great but the conditions were calm, and it was private and gorgeous. Vanessa’s brother came out to see if The Whaleboner was quick to adapt and make it all happen on short notice.
