WorthNoting BOSTON COLLEGE vs. COLLEGE Boston College and Harvard will meet for the 11th time in a Beanpot consolation contest on Monday, Feb. 23, at TD Garden. It marks the Eagles’ first consolation bout at the Beanpot since 2009, where the Eagles defeated Harvard, 4-3. All-time in Beanpot consolation games against Harvard, the Eagles are 8-2. The Crimson has not beaten Boston College in a consolation game since 1985. The first HU win came on 1958 The Eagles have taken down Harvard in a consolation game in 2009 (4-3), 2005 (4-1), 2002 (3-0), 1999 (6-4), 1996 (6-2), 1988 (4-2), 1984 (5-2) and 1967 (65). Earlier this season, Harvard marched into Kelley Rink and snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Eagles. The Crimson’s last victory over BC occurred on Nov. 7, 2006, before upending Boston College, 6-3, on Nov. 11. In that game, senior Brad Barone earned his first-career start in between the pipes for the maroon and gold. Harvard’ penalty kill kept BC off the board in its seven power play chances. In all, Boston College possesses a 71-45-5 mark over the Crimson, including a 26-14 mark in the Beanpot Tournament. Before the Nov. 11 loss at home, BC had won the previous nine tilts by a goal margin of +27. Jerry York is 23-6-2 all-time against Harvard behind the Eagles’ bench. HARVARD HUNT Since the two teams last met, the two teams have combined for 26 victories, 14 losses and four draws with BC owning the slight edge, 14-5-3 to 12-9-1. Harvard went about its business in interesting fashion following the Boston College victory. On Nov. 14, HU beat Brown with another six-spot, 6-2, before losing to Yale, 2-1, on Nov. 15. Following that, Harvard won seven-straight games by a combined score of 29-12. Capping that stretch with a win over RPI on Dec. 30, the Crimson went on to lose eight of its last 14 games. Saturday night’s 3-2 victory on the road against Clarkson marked the second win in just nine games. Harvard had topped the Pairwise charts amidst its run but has since slipped, clinging on tied for 16th. Junior Jimmy Vesey continues to light it up for Harvard and is second only to Boston University’s Jack Eichel for the points race, averaging 1.54 ppg with 20 goal and 20 assists through 26 games played. Vesey’s 0.77 goals per game, however, stands as the top mark in all of college hockey while a quarter of his 20 total tallies have come via the power play. Classmate Kyle Criscuolo is 11th in the country with 1.27 points per game. Harvard’s offense still stands as a top-10 unit, scoring 3.31 goal per game for 10th in America. Senior goaltender Steve Michalek’s 2.38 goals against average (37th) and .925 save percentage (.925) has the Crimson defense slotted in 29th, overall, surrendering 2.50 goals per game. Harvard’s special teams have been lethal all year long with a combo of the 11th-ranked power play (21.3 percent) and tied for the seventh-best penalty killing unit (88.1 percent). AVOIDING HISTORY Boston College head coach Jerry York is coaching in his 21st Beanpot for the Eagles. York has yet to finish last in the tournament. FRISKY FROSH WIth Noah Hanifin’s two-assist performance on Feb. 20, Boston College now has all three of its freshman at the 20-point plateau. This marks the second-straight year three rookies have hit the 20-point plateau as Ryan Fitgerald (29), Austin Cangelosi (26) and Adam Gilmour (20) as Alex Tuch (12-14-26), Zach Sanford (5-15-20) and Noah Hanifin (4-16-20). SENIOR SCHWANN SONG The senior class of Brad Barone, Brian Billett, Danny Linell, Michael Sit, Quinn Smith, Cam Spiro and Destry Straight played in their last regular season game as Eagles at Kelley Rink on Friday night. This group enters the Harvard game with 101 victories, including one NCAA championship (2012), two Hockey East regular season titles, one Hockey East Tournament championship and three Beanpot trophies. These Eagles have never won less than 22 games in a season. ALL WE DO IS WIN – WIN - WIN With an 18-10-3 mark heading into Friday’s contest, the Eagles mathematically have locked up another winning season. In its 93 season of varsity hockey, BC had totaled 74 winning seasons for a winning percentage of 80 percent. It’s the 18th-straight winning season under Jerry York.

Eaglesin140 - Jerry York has never finished fourth in the Beanpot as head coach of Boston College #Beanpot - BC is 8-2 all-time against Harvard in consolation games and has not lost to the Crimson in the consolation since 1985 - The Eagles have clinched their 74th winning season in 93 varsity entries on The Heights - BC has posted a winning record 80 percent of time - Jerry York is now just 19 wins shy of reaching the 1,000-career victory benchmark for his career @BCHockeynews | #BCvsHarv | #Beanpot | #WeAreBC

GOLDEN EAGLES Both Teddy Doherty and Ryan Fitzgerald both met the 50-point plateau for their careers on Saturday, Feb. 14, against Vermont. Doherty now has nine goals and 42 helpers for 51 points in 96 career games played while Fitzgerald hit the benchmark (26-24-50) in his 70th-career game. PARSING THE PAIRWISE Heading into the Lowell contest, BC has jumped into a ninth in the Pairwise ranking, possessing an RPI of .6290. The only team the Eagles trail in the Pairwise rankings right now is Boston University, which is in seventh. HOCKEY EAST IS HEATING UP Like every time this season, the race of the Hockey East championship is a bottleneck. Heading into the weekend, of the regular season, Boston University can clinch the outright regular season title with one point against Northeastern. The Eagles (25 points) are four points behind the Terriers with UMass Lowell, Providence and Notre and (23) right behind tied for third. Northeastern and Vermont are tied for sixth, only three points behind BC for sixth. Boston College has not completely locked up a first-round bye in the Hockey East playoffs jsut yet. TRACKING TWENTY If Boston College wins two more games this season, it wil mark the sixth-consecutive year BC has won 20 or more games. It will match Jerry York’s streak of six-straight 20-win seasons starting in 2002-03 and concluding in 2007-08. TOUCHDOWN Boston College has scored six goals on three occasions this season. Including the Feb. 14 victory against Vermont (6-5), BC tallied six goals against RIT and Colorado College in back-to-back nights on Oct. 18 and Oct. 24, respectively. POINT - COUNTERPOINT Boston College has now had a freshman score 25 points or more in a season for the last four seasons. Including Alex Tuch’s 26 points this year, Ryan Fitzgerald and Austin Cangelosi recorded 29 and 26 points last season, respectively. Michael Matheson reached 25 points in 2012-13. Johnny Gaudreau turned in 44 points as a rookie in 2011-12. KILLING ‘EM SOFTLY Ryan Fitzgerald tallied a short-handed goal against Northeastern in the Beanpot. It marks his second tally of that variety and he is now just one of 27 skaters on all of college hockey with a pair short-handed goal on the season and just one of five in Hockey East (Michael Colantone / Evan Campbell – UMass Lowell | Danny O’Regan – Boston University | Blaine Byron – Maine). HATS OFF FOR FITZY Ryan Fitzgerald scored Boston College’s first hat trick of the season and within that trifecta was two power play goals and the game-winner against UConn on Jan. 24. He became the first Eagle to record a hat trick since Johnny Gaudreau turned the trick against Denver on March 29, 2014. Fitzgerald became the 38th skater in college hockey to record a hat trick this season. Alaska Anchorage’s Bret Cameron and Northeastern’s Kevin Roy each scored four goals in a game this year.

Others receiving votes: UMass Lowell, 25; Robert Morris, 18; Michigan 15; Vermont, 12; Colgate, 4; Northeastern, 3.

WERESTILLNOTING HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT Shots on goal has had a significant impact on the Eagles’ results this season. When BC limits its opponents to 20-29 shots, the Eagles are 11-5-1. When allowing 30 or more, Boston College is 5-5-2. When BC takes 30 or more shots, Boston College is 11-3-2. BEAK STREAK After a bit of an uneasy start (4-5-0), BC had rattled off the nation’s longest unbeaten streak that spanned from Dec. 5, 2014, to Jan. 16, 2015. Over the course of that time, the Eagles recorded a 6-0-2 mark in their unbeaten string of eight games. The Eagles’ unbeaten string started on Dec. 5 with a 2-2 draw at UNH and concluded after losing at Maine on Jan. 18. POWER PLAY IS PARAMOUNT Scoring on the power play has proved to be key to the Eagles’ success in the early goings of the 2014-15 schedule. Boston College is a nearly unblemished 12-1-1 when scoring at least one power play goal. When denied a power play goal, the Eagles are 6-9-2. A GRAND OL’ TIME Jerry York’s countdown to 1,000-career victories is officially on. York reached his 981stcareer triumph against Vermont on Feb. 14 and now has 19 wins left to reach 1,000. TAG, YOU’RE IT When Boston College scores first, the Eagles have mounted a 13-2-2 record. GILMOUR ARENA Adam Gilmour’s two-career goals at Northeastern’s Matthews Arena have proved to be timely. The Hanover, Mass., native’s first goal at Matthews Arena took place in the form of the overtime winner on Nov. 2, 2013. In his trip to Huntington Ave. on Jan. 9, 2015, Gilmour scored the game-tying goal with 2:15 remaining in regulation to force a draw. AMERICAN EAGLES Thatcher Demko, Noah Hanifin, Ian McCoshen, Alex Tuch and Miles Wood (incoming in ‘15’16) represent Boston College as five of 23 skaters for the 2015 U.S. National Junior Team roster as announced by USA Hockey on the night of Dec. 25. Team USA was dealt an early exit following a loss to Russia in the quarterfinals, but Tuch accounted for a goal and an assist while Hanifin logged a pair of assists over the course of the 2015 World Junior Tournament. BC: THE NHL’s FIRST CHOICE Not only did Boston College lead all of college hockey in 2013-14 by dispersing 26 Eagles across the National Hockey League, BC has placed 18 skaters on opening night rosters for the 2014-15 NHL season. That mark is tops in Hockey East. In regards to college hockey, seven first-round picks are among the nearly 200 NHL draft picks on college rosters, including at least one on 40 teams. Boston College is the only team in the country with two first-round draft picks, including junior captain Michael Matheson (Florida – 23rd) and Alex Tuch (Minnesota – 18th). HOCKEY HALL CALL Farkas earned All-America accolades, was a Hobey Baker finalist and ranks sixth all-time in scoring (190). Hogan was instrumental in resurrecting this treasured sport at Boston College, following suspension of hockey as a varsity sport during the Great Depression. Reasoner earned NCAA East first-team honors, AHCA All-America honors, twice captured All-Hockey East first-team honors and helped bring BC to the NCAA National Championship game in 1998.
