Admission & Ticket Information WE ARE PLEASED TO OFFER FREE ADMISSION IN CELEBRATION OF OUR 75TH ANNIVERSARY AND COMING BACK TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY. COME OFTEN TO ENJOY THE EVENT AND BRING YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY! STEINS & VINES BEER AND WINE TASTING EVENT TICKETS The 7th Annual Steins and Vines tasting event featuring Maine brewers and vintners will be held Thursday, August 4 and Friday, August 5, in the North Entertainment Tent. There will be two sessions each day at 3:30–5 p.m. and 5:30–7 p.m. Tickets are $35 each. This event is limited to adults 21 or older. Photo ID is required for admittance and no one under age 21 is permitted in the venue. Advanced tickets strongly suggested. A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase at the Main and Park Street gates. If you pre-purchased tickets, Steins & Vines bracelets can be picked up throughout the day.

Parking & Shuttles The Maine Lobster Festival runs continuous free shuttles from the parking lots of South Elementary School (30 Broadway, Rockland, ME) and Oceanside High School (400 Broadway, Rockland, ME) to the Festival all day Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Shuttles arrive at each location approximately every 20 minutes. Limited shuttles will be available during The Big Parade, Saturday, August 6. The Maine Lobster Festival does not have any designated parking spaces for our guests. The City of Rockland has several public lots throughout town, and several organizations offer paid parking opportunities. Organizers do their best to assist handicapped visitors with several handicap spaces, but cannot guarantee that any spaces will be available.

In addition, assistance will be provided with loading and unloading handicapped passengers at the front gate, and volunteers will see them safely onto the grounds while the driver parks the car. Golf cart transportation is also available to the grounds for those who desire assistance. Handicap parking is located on the northbound lane of South Main Street (approximately eight spaces). This is directly adjacent to the Festival grounds and the Main Gate. There is also handicapped parking on the north side of Myrtle Street (approximately 14 spaces) directly across the street from the Main Gate. The best time to get these parking spaces is early in the day when the Festival first opens, as this is when gate traffic is the lightest.

2022 OFFICIAL MAINE LOBSTER FESTIVAL PROGRAM 7

2022 President’s Letter Greetings and WELCOME BACK lobster lovers! I am so pleased to say that after two years off due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we will be celebrating the 75th Annual Maine Lobster Festival, in person, Aug. 3-7 and we can’t wait to see all your smiling faces! Since 1947 to the present five-day celebration we know today, one thing has never changed—the delicious bounty of fresh Maine lobster right from the waters of Penobscot Bay. We continue our commitment to promote and support our hardworking lobstering community by serving lobster locally sourced from right here in Knox County. At the last Festival held in 2019 we served nearly 18,000 pounds of lobster, and with your help we hope to exceed that amount this year. This year our Festival theme is “We Are All Champions.” I truly feel like we have all run a long race to get back to “normal”, and having the Festival is like winning a prize! As a non profit organization it is our mission to give back to our local communities in ways large and small. In the last decade the Maine Lobster Festival has been fortunate to be able to donate over $800,000 in support to many area charitable organizations such as senior and student groups, local food pantries and shelters, youth sports groups, animal rescue, and other groups in need. We assist in purchasing equipment and vehicles for area first responders and provide annual scholarships to deserving high school seniors. There is so much to see and do, and this year in celebration of our 75th year we are pleased to say that there is NO ADMISSION CHARGE. We want you to come and have fun, while exploring all we have to offer. Watch fresh steamed lobster being prepared at the World’s Largest Lobster Cooker. Head over to the Food Tent for a delicious Lobster or Shore dinner. Visit our Arts & Crafts and Marketplace tents to find beautiful hand-crafted items. In the Marine Tent, learn how lobster traps are made and see marine creatures up close in our touch tank. The North Tent offers our Seafood Cooking Contest, cooking demonstrations and other events. Over on the Maine Stage, watch live performances by talented musicians from all over Maine. There is something for everyone here! On behalf of the Maine Lobster Festival family, our Directors, Members and our more than 1,300 amazing Volunteers, we’re so glad you’re here with us, and we hope you have a wonderful time! Enjoy!

Celia Knight President

Festival Works To Be Environmentally Friendly The Maine Lobster Festival is continuing its recycling efforts in its commitment to be a green-friendly festival. For years, the Festival has recycled cans and bottles and donated the money collected from returnables to youth groups, such as the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. While many bottles and cans make it into recycle bins, many also end up in the trash. This year on the Festival grounds, visitors again will notice recycling signs and containers for returnables. Visitors are asked to turn in bottles and cans for recycling and not place them in the trash.

New for this year, the Festival is eliminating straws and has water bottle filling stations located on the grounds. Festival-goers are invited to help organizers in their efforts to be a greener festival. Share recycling ideas or suggestions with us by emailing info@mainelobsterfestival.com.

Participants run across the Maine stage to a skiff, where they must put on a fisherman’s foulweather gear, including a Sou’wester (yellow fisherman’s hat), big rain jacket, and rubber boots as quickly as possible. 34 2022 OFFICIAL MAINE LOBSTER FESTIVAL PROGRAM

How Do You Cook More Than 20,000 Pounds of Lobster in Five Days? Did you know that there is more to the World’s Greatest Lobster Cooker than meets the eye? The current lobster cooker is celebrating its 14th birthday at the 2022 Maine Lobster Festival. It all began with an idea and a dream. Finally, after years of engineering and fabrication, the cooker came to life just in time for the 2008 festival. With many improvements and upgrades from the previous cooker, this new machine was untested until one week before the Festival, when organizers did a test cooking of 200 pounds of crabs. The cooker passed with flying colors and was ready to take its place as the World’s Greatest Lobster Cooker. And, wow, did it live up to its name. It operated flawlessly throughout the entire festival. There have been other cookers over the years, and with each new cooker there were many improvements. This new cooker is state-of-theart, with electronic controls, tremendous capacity, temperature sensors, and safety shut-off devices. The old cooker used fuel oil and biofuel and occasionally would belch a puff of black smoke. The new cooker uses clean-burning propane, and its design is about 50 percent more efficient than the old cooker and six times more efficient at cooking lobster than the typical outdoor lobster cooker or turkey fryer. This efficiency results in a much better tasting lobster! A typical outdoor turkey fryer-lobster cooker produces enough heat to cook approximately 15 pounds of lobster in 15 minutes. The World’s Greatest Lobster Cooker can cook 1,600 pounds of lobster in 15 minutes. You would need approximately 112 of those outdoor cookers to do the same job. The new cooker does it with eight individual cooking units, each capable of cooking 200 pounds of lobsters. Lobsters typically are cooked in batches of 100 pounds, depending on requests from the Eating Tent. Once cooked, the batch is put in an insulated tote and carted to the Eating Tent where the lobsters are served with all the fixings. In past years, festival volunteers have cooked and served as much as 26,000 pounds of lobsters in the course of the five-day festival.

The brick wall structure of the lobster cooker is made up of hundreds of customized bricks. Each one was purchased by a Festival supporter, and the proceeds helped pay for the cooker’s construction. The structure that houses the cooker is more than just a building; it is a monument to all of the past and future Maine Lobster Festivals, a testament to the enduring strength of the local lobster industry, and a symbol of the ongoing commitment to the spirit and vitality of the overall community. The Rockland Festival Corporation, the city of Rockland, the Rockland Harbor Commission, and the endless list of volunteers make Maine, the Midcoast region, and the Maine Lobster Festival the best there is. Come see for yourself!

How to Eat a Maine Lobster Like a Local

Whether you are a long-time Maine lobster lover or you’re preparing to take your first crack at it, here are a few tips for maximum enjoyment. 1. Put on the bib. Water can squirt at the least expected moment. And trust us, you will feel years younger. 2. Twist off the claws. 3. Crack each claw and knuckle with a lobster or nut cracker. Remove the meat. 4. Separate the tail from the body by cracking up at the base of the tail. Break off the tail flippers. Extract the meat from each flipper. 5. Insert a fork and push the tail meat out in one piece. Remove and discard the black vein that runs the entire length of the tail meat. 6. Separate the shell of the body from the underside by pulling them apart and set aside the green substance called tomalley. This is the substance that fulfills the functions of the liver and pancreas. 7. Open the underside of the body by cracking it apart in the middle, with the small walking legs on either side. Extract the meat from the leg joints and the legs themselves by biting down on the leg and squeezing the meat out with your teeth. 8. Use the wet napkins to clean up. 9. Enjoy your Maine lobster!

2019 1st Place Winning Recipe Lobster and Scallop Corn Chowder By Sue Jobes Serves 6-8

Ingredients: • 6 medium ears of corn • 6 strips of bacon, cut into 1/2 inch pieces • 1 medium onion, small dice • 1 medium poblano pepper, seeded and finely chopped • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely chopped • 1 celery rib, small dice

3. Discard all but 3 tablespoons of the bacon drippings from the pot.

• 2 medium tomatoes, peeled, seeded, small dice (or use 3 - 4 plum tomatoes)

4. Add the onion and cook over medium heat until they start to caramelize.

• 1 pound medium sized red potatoes, medium dice

5. Add the diced poblano pepper, jalapeño pepper, and celery, and cook until slightly softened, about 2 minutes.

• 1 teaspoon salt • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice • Pinch of sugar • 1 bay leaf • 3 – 4 cups Half and Half, at room temperature • 1 cup whole milk • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil. • 2 tablespoons butter • 1 pound cooked lobster meat • 1 pound sea scallops • Freshly ground black pepper and kosher salt to taste • Chopped parsley, for garnish (optional)

Directions: 1. Working over a bowl, cut the corn kernels from the cobs. Set aside. Save two of the cleaned cobs. 2. In a large soup pot, cook the bacon over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until crisp and fat is rendered. Do not burn the bacon! Transfer the bacon to paper towels to drain. Once drained, crumble and set aside.

6. Add the tomatoes, potatoes, salt, garam masala, allspice, sugar, bay leaf, and the reserved corn kernels. Stir well. Add the reserved cobs and cook over moderate heat until mixture begins to boil. 7. Once the mixture begins to boil, reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and cook the mixture until the potatoes are tender, about 20 to 25 minutes. Stir occasionally. 8. While the chowder ingredients are cooking, add vegetable oil /butter to a sauté pan. When the butter stops bubbling, add the lobster and cook until warmed through. Remove from pan, cut into bite size pieces and set aside. 9. Dry the scallops and season with salt and pepper. In the sauté pan, sauté the scallops until cooked through. Do not overcook the scallops. Remove from pan and cut into bite size pieces. 10. Once the potatoes are fork tender, stir in the Half and Half and milk and bring just to a boil. Reduce heat and add the lobster and scallops. Cook until warmed through. 11. Remove the soup pot from the heat. Adjust the seasonings with black pepper and salt to taste. Note: You may also want to add additional garam masala and allspice spices to your taste. 12. Ladle the chowder into bowls. Garnish each bowl with crumbled bacon and parsley (if using).

The Big Parade on Rockland Main Street

The Big Parade will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6. In addition to floats, it also features Grand Marshals, the newly crowned 2022 Maine Sea Goddess, the Sea Princesses and their escorts, King Neptune and his court, and a variety of bands, marching units, and drill teams. The 2022 Parade theme is We Are All Champions, and the Maine Lobster Festival is excited to announce that the 2022 Grand Marshals are our local winning high school sports teams! The board of directors, members and volunteers want to recognize all the student athletes who worked so hard to have winning seasons. We look forward to celebrating them in our parade! Local lobstering legend Virginia Oliver, aka, The Lobster Lady, was chosen to be our 2020 Grand Marshal. Due to Covid-19 we were unable to hold that parade, but we are excited to welcome her to

the 2022 Parade! Virginia recently celebrated her 102 birthday, and believe it or not, still goes out lobstering with her son. Virginia will be escorted by the Owls Head Transportation Museum. The parade is a great place to show off the enthusiasm we have for our community. From Horch Roofing to Hannaford & Shaws, to Lincolnville Community Band, Taste of Maine Restaurant, Color Guards and the Special Olympics to name a few, the Maine Lobster Festival is honored to have their enthusiastic, fun and creative continued participation. Our local community makes this parade an exciting and entertaining family event celebrating our lobster industry. We are also excited to have the Maine Cabin Masters return to the Parade again this year! Working alongside his sister, brother-in-law, and a trusted team of craftsman and local artists, Augusta native Chase Morrill renovates classic Maine vacation properties in a unique style. From century-old cottages buried deep in the woods, to lakeside retreats on pristine shores, these classic homes receive the revivals they have needed for decades. Head over to Mildred Merrill Park on the Festival grounds after the parade to meet the Masters!

The International Great Crate Race • The crate races take place at 2 p.m.,

Sunday, Aug. 7

• Registration line begins at 5 a.m. and registration opens at 7 a.m. • Weight classes include featherweight (up to 75 pounds), lightweight (76-125 pounds), medium weight (126-175 pounds), and heavyweight (176 and heavier). The Maine Lobster Festival’s International Great Crate Race is the original crate race, invented by William Atwood in the 1970s and managed by him and his family for more than 20 years. Taking the challenge of scampering across a string of floating wood lobster crates is, without a doubt, among the biggest splashes at the annual Maine Lobster Festival. This test of balance and endurance — and sometimes a bit of theatrics — is a major attraction that regularly draws hundreds of spectators. The International Great Crate Race begins at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 7, at the waterfront, adjacent to the Festival grounds. Competitors must register in advance. Registration at the information booth starts at 7 a.m. Sunday, and the limited numbers of slots fill up within minutes. If you are interested in registering, we highly recommend being there up to two hours early. The fee is $15 for contestants 12 and older and $10 for children 11 and younger. Lobster crate racing requires speed, quick feet, balance and, above all else, the ability to withstand a dunking in chilly Maine waters because most competitors do end up in the drink. The race course is a string of 50 lobster storage crates stretching across a section of Rockland's inner harbor in full view of the festival grounds. While trying to reach the other end, contestants scamper across the barely floating lobster crates. If successful, a contestant turns and heads back to the other end. The "race" for each runner continues until a fall into the water occurs or until exhaustion takes over. Inevitably, the water wins. Susan Lundquist’s long-standing record of 3,007 crates was broken in 2008 by Andrew Bachiochi. Bachiochi set a new record by running 4,501 crates. In 2012, crate race champion Connor McGonagle, age 12, of Owls Head, Maine, smashed Bachiochi’s record when he wowed the crowd by covering 6,000 crates. He never did fall!

In 2014, we had a tie for winners: Scarlett Flint, 7, of Warren, Maine, and Harrison Page, 9, of South Berwick, Maine. Neither winner ever fell in! In 2015, Flint returned and successfully defended her title after running an incredible 3,000 crates without ever falling in. In 2016 she again defended her title, winning with 1,500 crates. The 2019 winner with 2,965 crates was Sean Griffith, 11, of Fairfax Station, Virginia. Each year’s Great Crate Race attracts plenty of contestants, and a large crowd - get there early! It’s a sight not to be missed and an event certainly worth trying, if for no other reason than the memory and the ability to brag that you challenged the crates at the Maine Lobster Festival.

2022 OFFICIAL MAINE LOBSTER FESTIVAL PROGRAM 45

Tips for running the crates If you’ve made up your mind to take the challenge of running the lobster crates, here are some tips to keep in mind: • Wear something on your feet (not sandals). Bare feet trying to find traction on the wet wood crates is an exercise in futility. • Move with speed. Trying to take a Sunday stroll on the string of crates is a sure-fire way to get wet quickly. • If (when) you begin falling, try to fall to the left or right so that you will land squarely in the water and not on any part of the crates. • Race organizers keep rowboats in the water to assist contestants who take the plunge. Don't be embarrassed to accept a ride back to shore. • Acrobatic falls get a lot of applause from the audience. Smile for the cameras as you fall. • Have fun. You'll never forget the challenge of racing the crates.

2022 OFFICIAL MAINE LOBSTER FESTIVAL PROGRAM 47

A Community Festival: What That Really Means The Maine Lobster Festival is truly a community festival. The Festival would not, and could not, exist without a commitment to giving back to the people of Midcoast Maine. That commitment to our community is why we’re offering FREE ADMISSION this year in honor of our 75th anniversary! In the mid-1990s, then-Lobster Festival President Ed Kolmosky gathered the set-up crew and quickly realized that the pavement at Harbor Park was in rough condition. Some tent stakes would not hold in the crumbling hard-top. Kolmosky called the city manager and learned there was no money in the budget for repairs. His typical “can-do” response resulted in getting a local paving crew to the grounds in a less-than-typical time frame. The Lobster Festival took care of the paving for the city property at no cost to taxpayers. That was not an isolated instance. A few years earlier, the city needed a new ambulance but had no funds to pay for it. You guessed it: The Festival bought a new ambulance for the city. When a local developer set his sights on the land at the top of the hill above the park, longtime Festival stalwart and retired teacher Mildred Merrill realized the last harbor view on Main Street was threatened. It took several years, but under Mildred’s steadfast leadership, the Festival bought the land and donated it to the city with the understanding that the view would not be blocked. These are three examples of the Festival’s core mission: giving back. Its strength is in its volunteers.

“This combination is what makes the Maine Lobster Festival unique, and it’s what keeps us going all winter,” said Tim Carroll, past president of the Festival. Other community contributions and gifts worthy of note have gone to Oceanside High School for a new auditorium curtain, improvements to and furnishings for the teachers lounge, and additional educational support. The Festival also has supported other projects, including the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce, Camden First Aid Association, Freedom Riders, Meals on Wheels, Area Interfaith Outreach Food Pantry, Teen Center, Rockland Fire Department, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Knox Interfaith Teen Safe Havens, Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County, Destination Imagination, Rockland District Nursing Association, Literacy Volunteers, Trekkers, Festival of Lights, and Bicycle Coalition of Maine. A portion of the gate admissions is distributed annually for worthwhile recreation projects throughout Knox County. Also essential to the Festival’s mission is ensuring there are enough funds to open the next year’s festival. The Festival is proud to be able to bring a boost to our local economy by bringing in thousands of visitors every year to our beautiful area. Thank you for supporting the Maine Lobster Festival as it supports the Midcoast Maine community.

Our History

1961 MAINE LOBSTER FESTIVAL

OUR HISTORY Through the dedication of countless community members for 75 years now, the Maine Lobster Festival has endured and, many would say, has only gotten better each year.

THE BEGINNING It all began at a gathering of citizens and summer folk in March 1947, where a discussion arose as to what could be done about reviving the summer activities that Camden had prior to the war years. It was decided that having a marine festival of some sort would be appropriate. Having it become an annual affair was intentional from the beginning. It was known that a lobster festival held in Nova Scotia was a big success, and it was then suggested that this activity might be the answer for the community. In addition, it was suggested that it was time for the Maine lobster and the Maine lobster fishermen to come into their own. On that basis, the Camden-Rockport Lobster Festival was conceived as being the logical type of festival for this area.

After this decision, a non-profit organization known as the Camden-Rockport Lobster Festival Inc. was formed. Its president was Earl Fuller of the Maine Coast Sea Food Corporation; vice president, Clinton Lunt of Camden Shipbuilding and Marine Railway Co.; secretary, E. Hamilton Hall, editor of The Camden Herald; and treasurer and executive director, Henry S. Bickford. An executive committee was formed to work with and advise the group from the very first festival and continues today. The first officers were Wayne Buxton of the Maine Development Commission; Owen Smith, editor of the Maine Coast Fisherman; Rudolph O. Marcoux, national sales director of the Maine Broadcasting System; and Percy Keller, Camden's town manager. In addition, the Maine Sea and Shore Fisheries Commission, in the person of Richard Reed, assisted the executive director. Talbot O. Freeman, vice president of Pepsi Cola Company, was the master of ceremonies of the Camden-Rockport Lobster Festival. The soft drink company has generously arranged,

2022 OFFICIAL MAINE LOBSTER FESTIVAL PROGRAM 49

as a public service to the community, for profits for their sale of their drink at the festival to be enjoyed by the Camden YMCA, whose members will man the refreshment booth. The offer of "All the lobster you can eat for $1" caused the first festival to lose money, and for that and other 1950 FESTIVAL reasons the original Camden group did not pursue the event a second year. At the same time, the Rockland Junior Chamber of Commerce decided to bring the Lobster Festival to Rockland as a club project. The 1948 festival featured a parade, hot lobster cooked by several local dealers and trucked to Rockland's Public Landing, a concert by the Rockland City Band on Saturday afternoon, and a coronation ball Saturday evening at the Rockland Community Building. At this premier coronation, Ruth Roberts of Rockland was crowned as the first "Miss Maine Seafoods." It was in 1948 that the festival extended from one day to two and was held in July. Since then, the Maine Lobster Festival is held the first weekend in August that contains the first Saturday. There are some festival traditions that have been consistent since the beginning: the selection of a Sea Goddess, the serving of Maine lobster, and a grand parade.

THE PARADE & GRAND MARSHAL The Festival parade has, for many years, drawn the largest crowd of the weekend and often proves to be among the longer parades in Maine each year. Grand marshals for festival parades have included local, long-time workers for the event and people prominent in state and national politics. The 2007 Grand Marshal was Alice Knight. She has never missed a festival in over 70 years. Knight has been a festival director for over 35 years, and during that time she has always attended all five days of the festival.

THE FESTIVAL GROWS The Lobster Festival of 1948 became the Maine Lobster and Seafoods Festival. This name change was precipitated by the generous donation of hundreds of pounds of ocean perch by the Birdseye Division of General Foods to be cooked and served with the lobster. In 1949 the festival expanded to three days and continued to be run by the Junior Chamber of Commerce as a club project. This was a successful year for the festival and promoted this event as Maine's premier summer event. It had grown from a one-day parade and lobster feast in Camden to three days of events, with a Sea Goddess, visiting ships, Neptune and his Court of the Sea, and exhibitions. In the fall of 1949 the local Junior Chamber of Commerce decided that the festival was too big to be operated by that organization alone and voted to form a corporation. Other local organizations such as the Elks, Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, and American Legion, as well as the Rockland Chamber of Commerce, joined in the commitment to make the festival a community-wide event helping to promote its tourism and seafood orientation. The festival's fame spread farther and faster because of increased participation by outside groups.

COMMUNITY RALLIES FOR FESTIVAL Carnival rides, games and sideshows became part of the festival in the late 1970s through the mid ’80s. A couple of years of poor weather, coupled with rising costs for staging the festival created a financial strain.

to the Gateway Center Project, now known as The Maine Lighthouse Museum. The festival also has given $5,000 to the Rockland Police Department for new furniture and has donated two new floats for use by the City of Rockland at the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse. The festival has made contributions to groups such as local schools, Children's Museum, RocklandThomaston Area Chamber of Commerce and Senior Spectrum. Also, the Festival Board provided $12,000 for new fencing at Mildred Merrill Park, donated $10,000 to the Bob Gagnon Cancer Center at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, purchased a new ambulance for the City of Rockland, and provided funds to pave the entire Rockland Public Landing. The group funded repairs to the decking at the middle pier, adjacent to the giant lobster cooker, costing $10,000. In addition, all income derived from the admission fees of children entering the grounds has gone to the Rockland Recreation Center Building Fund. In the past 10 years, the Board of Directors donated a parcel of land, now known as Mildred Merrill Park, adjacent to the Festival grounds, to the City of Rockland. The land will be kept as green space and will retain an unencumbered view of the city’s harbor from South Main Street.

Each year the Festival contributes considerable volunteer hours and funds in grooming and improving the appearance of Harbor Park. A portion of its earnings also is placed in the Festival Recreation Trust Fund, from which money is distributed for worthy recreation projects throughout Knox County. The Festival, a non-profit activity run entirely by unpaid volunteers, is a colorful and enjoyable event that builds community spirit and enhances the region’s economy. Volunteering at the Festival is a wonderful way of making new friends and connecting with existing ones. While over 1,300 area citizens volunteer some time during each year's Lobster Festival, it is the Board of Directors who makes it possible for the gates to open. No sooner have the gates closed on one year's celebration than the planning begins on the next year's event.

2022 Maine Lobster Festival Sponsors The Maine Lobster Festival’s sponsors offer donations to the Maine Lobster Festival Committee that are put toward the implementation of the Festival. Thanks to their generous support, we are able to celebrate the lobster industry each year and offer donations to more local groups and organizations throughout the year. Whether it’s a monetary donation or enormous shipments of butter to melt, we could not operate without the generosity of these wonderful businesses. Thank You The Maine Lobster Festival would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors, volunteers, and the Rockland community. As a non-profit organization, the Maine Lobster Festival uses its proceeds to give back to community organizations, groups, school teams, scholarships, and charities. The kindness our sponsors show by donating goods or money helps us to give back even more throughout the year. As you know, we run on volunteer support, and have more than 1,300 volunteers each year. From our Board of Directors to the folks serving you lobster dinners throughout Festival Week, these folks donate their time to help the Maine Lobster Festival succeed every summer. All of our volunteers understand the hard work it takes to put on this wonderful event each year, and we are grateful they share our desire to improve Rockland and the surrounding communities. Finally, the wonderful residents of the Rockland community must also be considered. Thank you for sharing your home with Festival visitors each year, for putting up with the traffic an event of this size causes, for attending the Festival yourselves, and for your constant support of our mission. The Maine Lobster Festival honors not only the lobster industry, but also Midcoast Maine’s communities.

We are grateful for all those who attend the Festival each year and for those who do their part to help us give back.
