The students were given a challenge within another challenge: writing a small text/story using 77 words, no more, no less, about the topic they’d been studying during the last part of the school year: environment. Four shifts, four different challenges. They’d have to use in their texts some words/expressions: WATER, twice THINK TWICE, three times TREE, four words ending TION. It was very funny and mixed seriousness (the topic is serious), enjoyment and language work. Ana Costa e Silva
water
JOANA FARIA
In our days water is a very important resource so it’s important to preserve it but unfortunately water pollution is increasing and man is the only responsible. We use water for many things: in our routine, for example, to clean the teeth, clean the car, to do our meals and for hydrating our body. So people need to stop polluting the water. We need to stop throwing garbage to the water so that future generations can live.
JOSEFA SANTOS
“Hey! You look awful. What has happened to you?” “Hi, there. It’s a long story…” “C’mon, we have plenty of time!” “So, I was wondering how comfortable it was to be in the middle of the ocean, when, suddenly, the weather became stormy and the ship started to spill oil.” “Gosh! That’s terrible…” “Yes, you should have seen it… All those poor animals…” “Look, don’t worry. Soon, they won’t be here anymore.” (Conversation between two water drops)
JULIANA GIL
Water is very important. We need water to wash our teeth, shower, drink, cook (if there was no water, many foods such as fruits would not exist, such as fruits) and many more things. There are countries that have almost no drinking water, which is quite worrying because water is essential to human beings. It is known that we should save water, so our kids will have enough water to live. Save water, save the planet, save the future generations.
MARIA FRANCISCA SECO
Water pollution is one of the worst problems right now in the world. That's why in the future I'd like to be a marine biologist so I can defend this cause. Since I was a little girl, I love sea animals so protecting them from this major problem is one of my biggest dreams. I just want to feel the happiness of saving these beautiful and helpless animals. Please, protect the oceans, without them we are nothing!!!!
Mariana Breia
What is water? Water is a part of us, it’s a part of our world, and it’s a part of who we are. Right now we are destroying ourselves. What does it matter if we have money or a good life if we don’t have water? We should take care of it as it takes care of us. It is so simple: put the trash in the bin, reduce, reuse and recycle. Just be kind to the world.
MATILDE SANTOS
"Hello, how are you?" "Hi! I'm fine but also really worried about water pollution." "Yes, it's a serious and actual problem which we are facing just because of our actions." "That's right! Man is the main responsible and yet without water we can't survive." "I've been thinking lots about this, in your opinion, what is more important to do?" "For me the main way is to make people aware of the importance of pure water!" "You're right!"
RAFAEL RODRIGUES
The meaning of pollution is very abstract because many people have different thoughts of what that word means. There are many types of pollution but, in my opinion, the one that we could reduce is the water pollution, we should not throw away paper or plastic and some other different things that pollute the water. If someone with political power makes this subject be diffused on the news or something like that maybe this problem will decrease.
SALVADOR CAETANO
Clean water is essential for life, but many people today do not think much about the water they use for drinking, food preparation and sanitation. In developing countries, however, the search for drinking water can be a very serious daily problem. Millions of people die every year, most of them children, due to possibly prevented diseases, caused by the lack of access to clean water and adequate sanitation. With this we can conclude that water is life.
SAMUEL CRESPO
Nowadays we waste water in everything that we do and pollute water by throwing litter to the oceans or to a lake thinking that we don’t really make a difference in the middle of so many people. I hope that those people won’t mind when they are the ones that can’t get water. People are so busy looking only at themselves that they will only see the big picture when it appears right in front of them.
TOMÁS TOSCANO
Water is where life first appeared but it’s also what makes it continue, it is a necessity to all beings of the earth, with no exception. Although we all need water, some of us choose to ignore the ones who live in it, we decide to pollute and put our trash and belongings in the oceans. We shouldn’t be selfish and preserve life on our planet because they deserve to be here as much as we do.
tree
(three times)
ANA RITA MARTINS
Currently, the environment changes every day. The growth of industries and the traffic are the main responsible for the emissions of greenhouse gases. Because of this, the number of trees responsible for the production of oxygen and essential for human life is decreasing. The terrestrial species that live in trees are dying and the biodiversity is fewer and fewer. Our life is depending on the life of trees and we can change this for a better future.
BÁRBARA RIBEIRO
Forests are the lungs of our world. Trees are vital for almost every kind of life. Trees are the reason we all are alive. Today it is our duty to save the planet and to give it back all it gave to us, so everytime you feel happy and fulfilled, just remember that nothing would be possible without them. Everytime you feel grateful for your life and want to share it with the world, plant a tree.
CAMILA SILVA
The oxygen is essential to life, not only for us, human's beings, but also thousands of other animals. It is given to us by the trees that produce it in their green leaves. This production
is
affected by
the
human`s
actions
like
deforestation. Tree cutting is very dangerous because it reduces the number of available oxygen producers. So it is very important to protect the environment, specially the trees, because they are some of our best friends.
CAROLINA CAMARINHO
Trees are very important for all living things, because they give us oxygen, fruits, wood, paper, flowers... It is impossible to inhabit planet Earth if it has no trees, that is why we have to preserve them, but not everyone does. Forests are increasingly undergoing deforestation (intensive destruction of the forests), this will lead to a loss of biodiversity and many other problems such as the increase in global warming because trees absorb CO2 from the atmosphere.
DIANA PESSOA
Trees are our only sources of oxygen and we should value them once again as we depend on them for a living. More and more people are hearing about deforestation and I'm really heartbroken to see nature destroying itself in this way. Moreover, trees always remind me of the best time of the year, which isn't summer, but Christmas. I would like us to walk so we can give trees the conditions and the importance they deserve.
EDNA JESUS
Once upon a time there was a small boy. On a sunny day he had learnt at school that a simple tree is extremely helpful to everyone since it provides the oxygen that we need to breathe. On that same day he also saw his neighbor setting fire in the forest. He saw the flames burning a tree. He felt so bad that he decided to plant a tree at his backyard to balance the situation.
FRANCISCA CARRIÇO
The Amazonian forest, in the northwest of Brazil, the most important
rainforest in
the
world,
has
a
wonderful
biodiversity like the species of animals, trees and their indigenous people. Because of the large extension of trees, this forest is considered the lungs of the Planet, but for economic reasons a lot of its natural monuments, the trees, are being cut. We're facing a problem of deforestation, and a lot of people, like Bolsonaro, aren't concerned about it.
FRANCISCO NEGRÃO
Sometimes I would like to be helpful as a tree. They help everybody living on our planet, and I would like to help everybody like trees do. People in every continent live because trees give us oxygen and sometimes I would like to be able to help all the people in the world, eradicating hunger in Africa and poverty in Asia, stopping racism in America and every war and conflict in Europe and all around the world.
FILIPA FONTES
Nowadays the environment is something that worries me, more properly deforestation. Trees have been suffering more and more due to politics and people's stupidity. I usually think about this subject a lot and I can't understand why people hurt trees and how they are capable of such a thing. I just wish people could think that trees have as much right to life as we do, that is why people should water them and help them grow.
INÊS GOMES
This time, I have a little story to tell you. It is just a story of a girl that loves nature. She loves flowers and trees, but also walking in the middle of this nature while she breathes deeply. But sometime, humans started to destroy nature by cutting trees. After that, the girl starts to stay at home, because she just no longer had that shadow near a tree to relax, and the nature to walk inside.
INÊS MATOS
Pollution is a topic we’re already “tired” of hearing about, however, I feel that it’s still not enough. The Earth isn't to blame, the trees and the “homeless” animals aren't to blame. We need it, the forest, the trees that give us life, and the same trees that make this a world so much more beautiful. It’s time to put your hand on your conscience, it’s time to act and not to wait for the other ones.
think twice (twice)
JÓNI PEREIRA
Pollution is a problem that affects us all, and if you think that's overreacting, you should think twice. This problem starts affecting our lands and oceans, which will be harmful to the flora that would feed the small animals that feed bigger animals that we, humans, eat. If the small animals are affected by the pollution, everyone who depends on them to survive will suffer, so, think twice the next time you throw trash to the ground.
LEONARDO PESSOA
I think humans need to think twice about what we are doing to our planet, our blue Earth. We can see pollution everywhere in the air, mainly in overpopulated countries like India. People need to think twice because with these acts we can see a big increase in temperature and more and with these things the people of the present can harm those of the future. If we think about our acts, the planet will thank us.
LEONARDO REIS
The world is changing faster than ever, human acts are being reflected nowadays mainly because of pollution. I think everyone should be ashamed as it is our generation that is causing the destruction of the planet, our planet. I'm ashamed, aren't you? We all should think twice before doing something that could harm our world, we are all in this together and we still have time! We are part of the problem, we need to think twice.
MARIA DIAS
Pollution is one of the most current topics. If we think that air pollution kills about 7 million people a year, it is very scary. Perhaps each of us would have to think twice before throwing a plastic packet to the floor when we finish eating our cookies. Children are really the future of our planet and they have the key to save it. Let's all think twice to save the planet while there’s time to change.
MARIANA L. REIS
I think there are still a lot of people who are not aware of the impact that our actions can have on ecosystems and on the lives of people and animals. Think twice! With the arrival of this pandemic, there was a drastic drop in pollution as it was not seen for a long time, less people using means of transport, but many masks began to be seen in the oceans. Before making this mistake, think twice!
MATEUS OLIVEIRA
I think the humanity is spending their resources quickly and that's one of the reasons for the high pollution level. We should think twice about what we buy, what we throw away, what we say... I'm sure that the majority will not understand why I say that we should think twice about what we say. We should do it to avoid encouraging people to pollute. As an example, Trump’s speech about the climate changes. Think about it!
MÉLANIE CATARINO
"What comes to your mind when you think about poor countries?" "Little education, poverty, overpopulation..." “You know the reasons for overpopulation?" "It's in their culture having large families." “No!
Think
twice.
They
have
no
money
to
buy
contraceptives, no education that sensitizes them." "Do you know why the Asian continent is the biggest polluter?" "They don't care about pollution." "But all industries on the continent came from Europeans, Americans... You have to think twice!" "You're absolutely right!"
MIGUEL CRAVO
Pollution has affected thousands of living beings, including our survival. Many times when we throw garbage onto the floor we think it will not harm, but if we all think the same there will be many tonnes of garbage thrown onto the floor, then think twice when you do it. Animals do not deserve to die because of human error, so think twice and help to solve the problem we cause so that animals do not suffer.
MARIANA JESUS
Once Sophie said "We barely think twice about our daily actions". But who is Sophie is might be wondering. Sophie is a girl who's really worried about climate change and the future of the world. She likes to think twice about her actions and about The way she can make a position in this world. Sophie is changing her daily habits and always trying to reduce her pollution footprint in a way to educate herself in it.
RAFAEL BATISTA
Have you ever thrown plastic to the ground thinking "It's just harmless plastic…"? Think twice. Let's imagine this situation: you throw plastic to the ground. The plastic flies and falls into a ditch. Later, the rain takes your plastic on an adventure from the ditch to the river an then to the sea. The same sea where a beautiful turtle that ate your plastic died suffocated. Do you want to have that on your conscience? Think twice…

ANA RITA CARVALHNHO
Pollution’s one of the biggest problems that our world has. Over the years industry evolved and our world isn't able to support this evolution. We have to work to save our house! Because this problem has been bigger and bigger, and if we want to see our grandchildren growing up, we have to work hard to improve this problem. With
the
information
that
we
have
nowadays
and paying attention to the world, we can save our planet.
ÂNGELA CRUZ
A big family of sharks lived happily in the pure ocean. The population was very afraid. However, the nation had the sensation that they had not attacked anyone for a long time. After many years, the water became very dirty, covered with plastic, due to pollution... the attacks started to happen more often. One day a person who was about to be killed shouted:" Why are they attacking us?" And the unhappy sharks answered: “You killed our habitat".
BEATRIZ RIBEIRO
Today I’ll tell you a little about overpopulation and its main consequences. It is necessary to pay attention to this topic, as it is timeless. It means the existence of a number of people far greater than the capacity of natural resources contained in nature. This way the resources indispensable for human survival can be exhausted and at any moment everything can change. The world population is growing rapidly and this leads to an increase in pollution!
CARLOTA SILVA
Pollution is the degradation of the natural environment by external substances introduced directly or indirectly in our planet. Nowadays, we’ve reached a pivotal point in human history. We have to fix everything we have done so far. We are running out of time but there is still one. Many of our solutions start with our forests, our lungs. Others start with the protection of species, renewable energy, hydrogen vehicles or self-sustainable houses. It is time to change.
DUARTE CRUZ
Once upon a time two friends were talking on the street going to the train station. In the middle of the path they saw a parade against pollution promoted by "GREENPEACE". They thought that was a good idea to join them so they did it. Â When they finally got on the train, the parade had already finished but they were still singing "the temptation is never the solution, save the earth" and everyone liked it a lot.
DUARTE GUERRA
For a few seconds a little thing, a small butterfly took my attention. That was a big deal to me not just because the butterfly was there but because "she" had a bad appearance probably because
the
human
race
didn't
think
about
the
consequences of the pollution they do. That tested my imagination and I thought about a better planet. That makes me want to do some good and that is the best sensation of the world.
DIANA ESTARREJA
Overpopulation is a very current and frequent topic. This theme is the main cause of most problems in the world, as each country may lack food, water, habitation for families and even lack of basic education for some children. One of the most serious problems caused by it is pollution, because people have no respect for nature in our world, but on the other hand, the best part is the cultural diversity that exists in the world.
DIANA SILVA
In school the teacher shows movies, every month about polllution to educate her students. One day she showed a movie about a seagull that was victim of a tide of oil contamination. Some students were very upset by what they saw, for them it was unfair that because of our mistakes innocent animals/people die, so they created an organization to protect our planet. With this it was proved that a teacher's small action can change the world.
ELISA ROSA
Over time, pollution has increasingly damaged our planet. Many species have been extinguished and it seems that no matter how much we talk about the damage caused, there are no major changes in people's actions. In my opinion, the easiest way is to start with education from a small age: children won’t pollute the environment and they can be the creators of awareness projects to avoid pollution so that there is a positive evolution in the world.
FRANCISCO CARDADEIRO
Pollution is the biggest problem we face today. If we do not start
tackling
these
problems
now,
it
may
become
irreversible. If we continue this evolution at this rate we are, we will extinguish several species and even ours, in a short period
of
time.
There
are
already
many
associations researching the consequences this can cause. For me this reality is very shocking, and for that not to happen we need to pay attention to our acts.
GASPAR SILVA

"Whaley was caught by a net again, let’s go help him!" "Again? It’s the second time this week!" "Please, imagine the pain of a mother when she knows that her son was caught by a net." All of this is caused by human pollution. Our generation is causing the destruction of the planet. We need to think twice if our planet will last long if we keep this pace. A good start would be working on overpopulation.
JOÃO ARRAIS
Pollution is one of the things that worries the population more and more. It is leading to the overheating of our planet and is endangering several animal species, for example with the melting of glaciers, penguins may be at risk of life as their homes are being completely destroyed. This situation is leading many organizations to try to diminish global warming and not rise it to prevent something worse from happening.

Concerned dialogue between a tree and a squirrel: “Sir Gregory, your family is being wiped out by humans! Why do they do this?”
“You know, my son, sometimes
organizations act without thinking about the future and consequences of their actions or what they are causing to their own world. All this hyperproduction is destruction.” “Sir, doesn`t pollution concern you?“ “They will understand the evil they are doing in a little while ... we can only pray...”
