NEW OWNERSHIP

For the hundreds of drivers who frequent Tiouge Avenue in Coventry every day, the presence of Quality Fuel is a familiar ~ and welcome ~ sight. To start, Quality Fuel has one of the least expensive gas prices in the entire city (and beyond). Those who need a fill-up will always get a better deal if paying by cash, but even credit cards yield the best deal in town ~ often by as little as only ten cents more per gallon. You canNOT beat these prices!

Quality Fuel is a gas station, convenience store, AND a smoke shop (part of the larger Smokeland® family). The store is now under NEW OWNERSHIP! This location is one of thirty-seven such stores around New England that are owned and operated by three brothers who came to America from Pakistan seven years ago. These brothers owe everything they have to the opportunities

they have been given here in our country, and they never take it for granted. Brothers Umar Saleem, Ali Saleem and Zubair Saleem agree that America has given them a chance to “prove themselves” with their tireless work ethic and constant attitude of gratitude.

You would be lucky to catch one of these brothers at their newly-acquired location, but more often than not, you will meet Quality Fuel’s trusted manager, Derrick Martin. Both Derrick and Umar are residents of Coventry and are committed to serving their fellow neighbors, friends and broader community. It is always about “people over profits.”

Customer satisfaction is the only priority of this team. If you have any questions, just ask. The unbelievable price of gas is only one of the many offerings of Quality Fuel. This is a convenience

The Chapel of St. Therese of Lisieux

store that offers everything one needs for convenience! If you need any common pantry items, ice cream, snacks and drinks of every kind, or even food for Fido, you will find it here. If you need home essentials such as laundry or dish detergent, you will find it here. If you want to avoid the long lines of a larger store, you will find what you need here. Enjoy free Beantown® coffee with every purchase.

Quality Fuel is also known for its huge and diverse stock of recreational tobacco products including organic tobacco, electronic devices, cigarettes and more. Everything you need if you enjoy smoking cigarettes or flavored Hooka products, you will not be disappointed. Everything is branded, original and FRESH. If you want something, Derrick and their knowledgeable staff are here to help.

While you are at it, visit the newly-upgraded Keno lounge to take your chance at the lottery!

Stay tuned for news of the soon-to-be opened Hooka bar and full-service bar & restaurant named “The Lounge” on Providence Street!

Quality Fuel is open seven days a week, 6:00am until 11:00pm. It is located at 585 Tiogue Avenue. Follow them on Facebook or call 401-3207009 for more info.

Reaching Carbon Neutrality For $1 A Day

(NAPS)—Zero net emissions of carbon dioxide from energy and industry can be achieved by 2050—and it could cost only about $1 a day. at’s the nding of a new study by James Williams at the University of San Francisco and Margaret S. Torn at the Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory. e study can be found in the peer-reviewed journal AGU Advances, which publishes high-impact, open-access research and commentary across the Earth and space sciences.

Why It Matters

Vehicles will need to be mostly electric. Residential space and water heaters will need to be powered by heat pumps or electric heaters.

According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the world must reach zero net carbon dioxide emissions by mid-century to avoid the most dangerous e ects of climate change.

How To Do It

e researchers say it can be done by:

•Increasing energy e ciency.

•Switching to electric technologies.

• Using clean energy (especially wind and solar power).

• Deploying a small amount of carbon capture technology.

Why It Works

e cost of rebuilding the U.S. energy infrastructure to run primarily on renewable energy is lower now than even ve years ago, according to the study. e net costs range from 0.2% to 1.2% of GDP, depending on di erent trade o s, including how much land is given to solar and wind farms.

Transforming Infrastructure

“ e decarbonization of the U.S. energy system is fundamentally an infrastructure transformation,” explained Margaret Torn, a senior scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. “It

In the least-cost scenario to achieve net zero emissions of carbon dioxide by 2050, wind, solar, and battery storage capacity will have to increase several-fold.

means that by 2050 we need to build many gigawatts of wind and solar power plants, new transmission lines, a eet of electric cars and light trucks, millions of heat pumps to replace conventional furnaces and water heaters, and more energy-e cient buildings—while continuing to research and innovate new technologies.”

In this transition, very little infrastructure would need “early retirement,” or replacement before the end of its economic life. “No one is asking consumers to switch out their brandnew car for an electric vehicle,” Torn added. “ e point is that e cient, low-carbon technologies need to be used when it comes time to replace the current equipment.”

Doing Well By Doing Good ere’s even an economic upside to doing all this.

“All that infrastructure build equates to jobs in the U.S., as opposed to sending money overseas to buy oil from other countries,” Torn said. “ ere’s no question that there are a lot of jobs in building a low-carbon economy.”

e cost gures should be lower still considering the economic and climate bene ts of decarbonizing energy systems. For example, less reliance on oil will mean less money spent on oil and less economic uncertainty due to oil price uctuations. Climate bene ts include the avoided e ects of climate change, such as extreme droughts and hurricanes, avoided air and water pollution from fossil fuel combustion, and improved public health.

Sapphire

This is Sapphire. She is a rescue cat. When I am laying on the couch watching TV at night, and I tell her baby nighty night time, she comes running and jumps on me and falls asleep. Once the program is over, she knows when we change the station, and she starts meowing and walking over to my bedroom door to let me know she wants me to go to bed now. We love her and we are very blessed to have her.

February Is National Sweet Potato Month

Sweet potatoes are one of my favorite tubers, and what better time to celebrate them than National Sweet Potato Awareness Month. I must admit, though, I didn’t become a real fan until I found out all of the health benefits and the delicious ways to use this colorful tuber.

The sweet potato is an excellent source of vitamin A, which supports good vision, the immune system and bone growth. It’s also a good source of vitamin B-6, magnesium and vitamin C. And it’s great for the complexion.

High in fiber and low in fat and calories, this root vegetable is a healthful alternative to snack foods when prepared without added butter, sugar or salt.

Unlike other potatoes, sweet potatoes like long, hot growing seasons. This might explain why it is the state vegetable of North Carolina.

There is a difference between sweet potatoes grown in northern states and those grown in Louisiana. Sweet potatoes produced in the north are mostly “firm” and tend to be drier, more mealy and yellow in flesh. Folks in Louisiana enjoy the second type, “soft,” which is higher in natural sugar. Louisiana sweet potatoes are moister and have a bright orange flesh color. Most often, it is the “soft” type that’s referred to as a yam.

Sweet potatoes are stored in temperature and humidity-controlled warehouses that extend their shelf life for the entire year. So, the “season” for fresh yams is 12 months. Canned yams also are available year-round. Here’s some great information about the health benefits of sweet

potatoes and how to select, store and prepare them:

• Orange, leafy green, and red fruits and veggies such sweet potatoes are full of beta-carotene/vitamin A, which regulates cell production and turnover (replacing old cells with new ones) so your skin’s surface is smooth.

• The Center for Science in the Public Interest ranks the sweet potato at 184 in nutritional value, more than 100 points ahead of the baked Idaho potato, spinach or broccoli.

• Sweet potatoes provide twice the recommended daily allowance of vitamin A and more than one-third of the daily requirements of vitamin C.

• Sweet potatoes are an important source of beta-carotene, vitamin B-6, iron, potassium and fiber. Sweet potatoes that are a pretty, bright orange color are richest in beta-carotene.

• Studies have consistently shown that a high intake of beta carotene-rich vegetables and fruits, like sweet potatoes, can significantly reduce the risks for certain types of cancer.

• Sweet potatoes contain virtually no fat or sodium.

• When selecting fresh sweet potatoes, choose those that are smooth, plump, dry and clean.

• Sweet potatoes should not be refrigerated unless cooked. Store at 55 to 65 degrees F.

• Always use a stainless-steel knife when cutting a sweet potato. A carbon blade will cause them to darken.

• One cup of canned sweet potatoes equals one medium-sized, cooked fresh sweet potato.

• When using canned yams, add them at the end of the recipe because they are already pre-cooked.

This recipe for Vietnamese Sweet Potato and Pork Soup showcases the flavors of the sweet potato in a spicy,

1. In a large stockpot, heat oil over medium heat. Add pork, onion, 2 tablespoons basil, lemongrass or lemon zest, garlic, jalapeno, ginger, cumin, cardamom, salt, pepper and nutmeg. Cook until pork is browned and onion is soft, about 10 minutes.

2. Add the sweet potatoes, chicken stock and coconut milk. Bring to a boil and then lower heat to a simmer. Cover and cook until sweet potatoes are tender, about 20 minutes. Uncover, remove lemongrass (if used) and stir in the soy sauce. Garnish with remaining cilantro, basil and jalapeno, if desired. Serves 4. ***

Seven Tips For Buying A New Mattress

(NAPS)—A mattress is one of the most important purchases you’ll ever make—a er all, you spend approximately a third of your life in bed. Although the number of choices can feel overwhelming, you don’t have to lose sleep over it if you heed these hints:

1. Size matters. If you’re sharing a bed, you should buy at least a queen-size mattress. A healthy person moves 40 to 60 times a night and makes lots of fullbody turns. For sound sleep, you need freedom of motion.

2. Test-drive di erent models. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes you can easily slip o so you can lie down. Compare a variety of support levels and styles within your budget.

3. Look under the hood. Ask the salesperson to show you illustrated or actual “cutaways” of the interior of the di erent mattresses and foundations.

e mechanics of innersprings and foams vary widely, which can greatly a ect comfort.

4. Use a reputable dealer. Furniture stores, department stores and sleep specialty shops all sell mattresses. Ask friends and family for referrals. If you don’t feel your salesperson is knowledgeable or helpful, take your business elsewhere.

5. Buying online? If you choose to buy a mattress online, you won’t have the chance to try it out, so read the reviews, carefully check return and shipping policies—and be certain there’s customer support should a problem arise.

6. Go for the best value, not the lowest price. To ensure long-term performance, buy the highest-quality sleep set you can a ord. View it as a 7- to 10-year investment in your health and well-being.

7. Be sure it contains certi ed foam. A key consideration is that the exible polyurethane foam in the mattress meets standards set by CertiPUR-US—a certi cation program

administered by a not-for-pro t organization—for content, emissions and durability. is internationally recognized foam certi cation program was established to combat substandard imported foams, some of which contained substances banned in the U.S. or listed by environmental and regulatory groups as containing chemicals that may cause cancer or genetic defects or damage fertility. e foam used in pillows and upholstered furniture can be certi ed, too.

What Certi cation Means

When you buy products containing CertiPUR-US-certi ed foam, you can be con dent that the exible polyurethane foam inside has been tested and analyzed at least annually by independent accredited laboratories and is:

•Made without ozone depleters

•Made without PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP (“Tris”) ame retardants

•Made without mercury, lead and other heavy metals

•Made without formaldehyde

•Made without phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission

•Made with low VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million) Learn More For further facts and tips and a list of participating companies, visit www. certipur.us.

TREASURES

Last spring, I picked up a massive collection of WWI and WWII arms, parts, bayonets, holsters, and all sorts of other related material. And I do mean massive! I’ve been selling the arms in every sale since, but never had a chance to go through the other stuff until last month. It was quite an experience!

Years ago, before the internet if I was looking for something I wanted for a gun (like a bayonet, holster, spare magazine, a sling), I would go to every show in the area digging for it. Now I have a ton of it here. As I opened boxes of stuff to organize it all I was stunned.

There were literally piles of things I then organized into lots for my next auction. In a way it was great fun going through the mountains of material culture. There were pieces I didn’t know much about, and it gave me a chance to learn more about them. A good example would be Polish Viz 35 Radom magazines. The pre-war made magazines have a little “G/2” on the bottom in an oval. The later magazines look exactly the same with the exception of that marking, and that little mark means the magazine is worth quite a bit more than the one without. Speaking of magazines: there were boxes and boxes of them! I put them into group lots for those that might want a set of like examples.

Did I mention bayonets? We have hundreds of them, and going through those has been interesting! Having reference books covering each country is a must. With greasy hands from handling the bayonets, I’ve spent a lot of time in Paul Kiesling’s Bayonets of the World. I think I’d be lost without it. There are some really nice examples of K98k, U.S. Model 1917, Japanese Type 38, and many other obscure bayonets from around the world.

There are also lots of web gear and leather holsters. We had separated them by country initially to box and store them, but we went through and put lots together of those also. Need any P38 holsters? How about Colt 1911? They’re here!

But the antique arms we have are great also. There are M1 Garand’s in great condition, M1 Carbines, and all sorts of bolt-action military arms from the late 19th century through WWII. I know I’ve mentioned

this before, but cataloging all of the bolt-actions would have been a real pain without having Stuart Mowbray’s Bolt Action Military Rifles of the World. My first copy is really worn, and I keep a second copy handy for when the first completely breaks down. While I have looked at the boxes of stuff in dread sometimes over the past six months, I have to say that I’ve really enjoyed setting up tables and going through it all. It’s always a great opportunity to learn about things I never really would have had a chance to before.

Namesake Furniture

Famous politicians, generous donors, entertainment and sports stars, and military heroes are honored by having their names on statues, buildings, bridges, streets, parks and even rooms. But famous furniture designers and architects are more often given lasting fame when a chair, desk or style is given their name. Some names used today are hundreds of years old.

There is the American Hitchcock chair, a painted wooden chair with a curved top, carved back slats and legs that are continuations of the back’s uprights. It was named for Lambert Hitchcock (1795-1852). Even older is Chippendale furniture, named for Thomas Chippendale (1718-1779), an English cabinetmaker who published a book that pictured his designs. Some collectors of early photographs buy daguerreotypes without knowing they are named for Louis Daguerre (17871851), who, in about 1839, invented the first photographic pictures.

A 20th-century reproduction of a Carlton House desk sold recently at a Cowan auction for $660. The original desk looked like a table with a horseshoe-shaped top section made to fit on top of the table. It was ordered by the Prince of Wales in about 1783 and designed by George Hepplewhite. The desk, named for a favored palace, was a gift for a member of the Prince’s entourage living at Carlton House, a London palace that was demolished in 1825 after the Prince became King George IV. The building was replaced with Carlton House terrace. An early 19th-century Carlton House desk sells today for $6,000 to $10,000. ***

Q:I looked at many Hall teapots online and have been unable to find a teapot like mine. It’s an Airflow, black with a gold spout, and what looks like a gold Chinese design. The number is 0450S, and it says it’s 8-cup. Is this a knockoff?

A:From 1938 through 1941, the Hall China Company of East Liverpool, Ohio, produced whimsi-

cal teapots in unique shapes that are sought after by collectors today. The Airflow teapot was one of these. It was first released in 1940, and its round shape and swooping handle hint of the beginning of Atomic Age design. The Airflow, like other Hall teapots, was made in many colors and sold either plain or decorated. Some, like yours, had Hall’s Standard Gold trim. In 1984, Hall reintroduced the Airflow and some other teapots. The reproduction teapots have the company’s post-1969 square mark. Your 8-cup Airflow teapot looks like it is from the 1940s. It is worth about $40.

What Women Need to Know About Stroke Risks

it may not be widely known that women face unique risk factors for stroke throughout their lifetime. things like pregnancy, preeclampsia and chronic stress can increase the risk for high blood pressure, a leading cause of stroke.

Cardiovascular disease, including stroke, is the leading cause of death among women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and 1 in 5 women will have a stroke. However, a large majority of strokes can be prevented.

Caring for yourself by understanding your risk factors can help reduce your risk for stroke and provide a better quality of life. start managing your stroke risk with these tips from the american stroke association, a division of the american Heart association:

Monitor Your Blood Pressure

The first step you can take in reducing your risk for stroke is knowing your blood pressure and keeping it in a healthy range. High blood pressure is the No. 1 preventable cause of stroke, according to the american Heart association.

the best way to know your blood pressure is to have it measured at least once per year by a health care professional and regularly monitor it at home then discuss the numbers with a doctor. For most people, a normal blood pressure should be 120/80 mm HG or less.

in addition to properly monitoring blood pressure, maintaining a healthy weight, being physically active, eating healthfully and reducing or eliminating alcohol and tobacco usage can help control blood pressure. if you do develop high blood pressure, work with a health care professional on a plan to help manage it.

Plan for Pregnancy

in the united states, high blood pressure during pregnancy is becoming more common, according to the CDC, and medical conditions including preeclampsia, gestational diabetes and blood clots during pregnancy all increase stroke risk during and immediately following a pregnancy.

managing conditions like high blood pressure before getting pregnant helps keep you and your baby healthy during pregnancy and beyond. in addition, your health during and immediately after a pregnancy can shape the lifelong health of you and your child. if you’re planning to become pregnant or are currently pregnant, it’s important to regularly monitor your blood pressure.

Take Care of Your Mental Health some stress is unavoidable but constant stress is not healthy. Chronic or constant stress may lead to high blood pressure and other unhealthy behavior choices, which can increase risk for stroke.

Based on findings in a Stress in America 2020 survey conducted by the american Psychological association, the top sources of stress are money, work, family responsibilities and health concerns. managing your stress and blood pressure can improve your overall health and well-being. reclaim control of your schedule and build in time to invest in your health. Find 10 minutes every day to do something for you, like listening to music, meditating or going for a walk.

Learn the Warning Signs

a stroke can happen to anyone at any point in life. immediate treatment may help minimize the long-term effects of a stroke and even prevent death. learn how to spot a stroke

• Face drooping – Does one side of the face droop or is it numb? ask the person to smile. is the person’s smile uneven?

• Arm weakness – Is one arm weak or numb? Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

• Speech difficulty – Is speech slurred? Is the person unable to speak or hard to understand? ask the person to repeat a simple sentence like “the sky is blue.”

• Time to call 911 – If someone shows any of these symptoms, even if the symptoms go away, call 911 and get to a hospital immediately. Check the time so you’ll know when the first symptoms appeared. talk to your doctor about ways to improve your wellbeing and help prevent stroke. Find more wellness tips at stroke.org.

Colon Cancer Screening Saves Lives When and How to Get Checked

Why is colon cancer screening important?

Colorectal cancer (cancer of the large intestine) is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the united states where it will likely cause over 50,000 deaths in 2023. these cancers typically start out as small growths in the colon. If the polyps are identified and removed at this stage, they are harmless. However, if they are not removed they can progress to cancer, which can spread to other parts of the body, be much more difficult to treat and lead to serious illness and death. although colon cancer can cause symptoms like blood in the stool, weight loss, stomach or abdominal pain, or changes in stool shape or consistency, these symptoms often do not happen until the polyps or cancer have progressed and become more difficult to treat or even life-threatening. to prevent this from happening, it is very important to find these polyps and remove them before they have the chance to turn into cancer and to identify any cancers as early as possible.

When should I start to get screened?

in the past, we have generally suggested that patients start screening for colon cancer at age 50 (or earlier if there are concerning symptoms or other risks like family history). However, in the past several decades, there has been a significant increase in colon cancer in patients under the age of 50. this has several organizations in-

Staying Healthy

cluding the american Cancer society (aCs) and the united states Preventative task Force (usPstF) suggest that patients start screening at age 45. However, if you have a family history, or other symptoms be sure to discuss them with your primary care doctor, as you may need testing sooner than age 45.

How can I check for colon cancer?

there are several ways to test for colon cancer. the most common way to be screened is with a colonoscopy. During a colonoscopy, you are given sedation to make you very sleepy and relaxed. then a long, thin camera called a colonoscope is inserted to the colon and used to look for any polyps or cancers. the camera can also be used to remove polyps. Prior to the colonoscopy, you will be asked to “prep” using laxatives to clean out the colon prior to the procedure. many patients find that this is the most difficult part of the entire procedure. Be-

cause a colonoscopy is a procedure there is a small risk of problems from the medications used for prep or during the procedure or of damaging the colon during the procedure. there are also non-invasive tests to look for colon cancer. One test that has become more common lately is the Cologuard test which looks for signs of polyps or cancer in the stool. this test is less invasive than a colonoscopy but does have some drawbacks. it should not be used for patients who have risk factors for colon cancer such as a personal or family history of colon cancer or certain types of polyps. it can also miss a small number of polyps or cancers, and if the test is abnormal, you will still need a colonoscopy to identify the problem.

How often should I be screened and when should I stop screening for colon cancer?

if your colonoscopy is normal, and you do not have any other risk factors for colon cancer, you should have repeat screening in 10 years. if you have a normal Cologuard test you should be tested again in 3 years.

Currently, most groups suggest stopping colon cancer screening at age 75. However, additional tests may be suggested if a patient has a family history of colon cancer, or if previous tests were abnormal. to learn more about or to schedule a colorectal cancer screening please visit https://www.carenewengland. org/schedule-a-colonoscopy.

“The Peanut Butter Falcon” (PG13) — Although this film released in theaters back in 2019, it was considered a “sleeper hit,” garnering more success in the years to come. Starring Shia LaBeouf and Dakota Johnson, this heartwarming indie film is now out on streaming platforms, which might help give it an even bigger reach. In the film, a young man with Down syndrome named Zak has dreams of becoming a professional wrestler, so he escapes from his assisted living facility to go chase his dreams. On the way, he meets Tyler (LaBeouf), who supports his venture and they begin to travel by water to Zak’s dream wrestling school in North Carolina. But Zak’s caretaker, Eleanor (Johnson), is close behind them to find Zak and return him back to the facility. (Paramount+)

“Smile” (R) — One of last year’s biggest horror successes releases on streaming Feb. 21! “Smile” stars Sosie Bacon as Dr. Rose Cotter, a therapist at a psych ward. In a meeting with student Laura Weaver, Laura informs Rose that she saw her professor die by suicide and, since then, has been terrorized by people smiling at her, telling her she will die soon. Laura then commits suicide in front of Rose, who later sees another patient smiling and telling her that she also will die soon. Rose assumes Laura’s curse has been passed onto her, and she takes any means necessary to figure out how to break the curse in time. Who would ever think that a movie about smiling would be so creepy? (Prime Video)

“We Have a Ghost” (PG-13) — This comedy-horror movie, based on a short

story by Geoff Manaugh, premieres Feb. 24, and it’s a goofy, spooky watch for the whole family. David Harbour (“Stranger Things” and “Black Widow”) stars as a ghost named Ernest, who haunts a home called “The House of Death.” A family of four moves into the home and the youngest son, Kevin, shortly thereafter has his first encounter with Ernest. But Ernest really isn’t as scary as all the town gossip claims and he can’t even speak. Kevin befriends him and begins a YouTube channel featuring Ernest, making them an internet sensation. Kevin’s friendship with Ernest prompts him to wonder how Ernest’s death truly came to be, so he dives deeper to uncover the truth. (Netflix)

“Liaison” (NR) — Eva Green (“Casino Royale”) and Vincent Cassel (“Black Swan” and the “Ocean’s” franchise) star in this new British-French series premiering Feb. 24. Green plays a secret agent tasked with finding out who’s behind dangerous cyberattacks taking place in the U.K. Her team tracks the main suspect, who happens to be her ex-lover, Gabriel Delage (played by Cassel). Upon secretly meeting with him, Gabriel provides her with information about the attack and agrees to work alongside her. Their past relationship is full of many secrets that inevitably crop up later and blur lines as she tries to complete her mission. (AppleTV+) © 2023 King Features Synd., Inc.

3. Which group released “Tears of a Clown”?

4. Who released “Venus in Blue Jeans”?

5. Name the song that contains these lyrics: “There goes my baby with someone new, She sure looks happy, I sure am blue.”

Answers

1. George Harrison, in 1970, right after the Beatles broke up. It was a triple album: two records of songs and one of jams with other musicians. It went to No. 1 in most places around the globe. The 50th Anniversary box set (2021) did not do nearly as well.

2. The song’s writer Roy Orbison, in 1961. Linda Ronstadt released her cover of the song in 1977, and it became her signature song.

3. Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, in 1970. Robinson had been about to leave the group until he saw how well the song charted. He stayed two additional years.

4. Jimmy Clanton, in 1962.

5. “Bye Bye Love,” by The Everly Brothers in 1957. While The Everly Brothers’ release is the best-known version, others gave it a try over the years, including George Harrison (who changed the lyrics after his wife left him).

Q:Is Tina Fey working on any new shows? Did the one about the mayor get canceled? I really loved “30 Rock,” and I’m hoping she’ll do a reboot of it someday. — S.L.

A:It was recently announced that Fey and her former “Saturday Night Live” Weekend Update coanchor, Amy Poehler, will be going on a comedy tour together. Since they are very busy women, they only have time for four cities, at least for now. According to Deadline.com, they’ll kick it off with their first performance on April 29 in Washington, D.C., then on to the improv capital of the world, Chicago, on May 29. From there, Fey and Poehler will appear at Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway on June 9 and will cap off their tour in Atlantic City’s Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena on June 10. The Tina Fey & Amy Poehler: Restless Leg Tour is calling itself a celebration of “thirty years of friendship with an evening of jokes, iconic stories and conversational entertainment.” Another pair of comedy legends, Steve Martin and Martin Short (who star in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building”), did a similar stage tour last year. Incidentally, Fey had a recurring role on their series as well. There aren’t any plans for a “30 Rock” reunion, which would prove especially difficult given star Alec Baldwin’s recent legal troubles. Her most recent creation, “Mr. Mayor,” starring Ted Danson, was canceled after two seasons. Despite recently striking out, I’m sure it won’t be long before Fey hits another creative home run. ***

Q:When does the new season of “The Masked Singer” begin?

I usually catch it midway through, and I want to watch it from the beginning this time. — L.A.

A:Season nine of the hit singing competition show began on Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox. Hopefully, you caught the commercials during the Super Bowl and don’t miss any episodes, but if you do, you can catch encore episodes via OnDemand, FOX NOW, Hulu and Tubi.

Tina Fey Depositphotos

According to “Entertainment Weekly,” this season’s theme nights include Abba Night, DC Superhero Night and ’80s Night. Returning panelists include Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg and Robin Thicke. Also, expect some star cameos. ***

Q:I read a rumor that Sheryl Lee Ralph didn’t really sing at the Super Bowl — that she lip-synced instead. Doesn’t she have a fantastic voice? — U.J.

A:Yes, long before she won an Emmy for her comedy chops in the sitcom “Abbott Elementary,” Sheryl Lee Ralph was nominated for a Tony Award for her powerful vocals in Broadway’s “Dreamgirls.” After she wowed ticketholders at the Super Bowl with her rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” viewers at home wondered if she lip-synced the lyrics instead of singing live. The following day, Ralph neither confirmed nor denied, telling “The Hollywood Reporter,” “Does it matter? … No. Thank you.” Send me your questions at NewCelebrityExtra@gmail.com, or write me at KFWS, 628 Virginia Drive, Orlando, FL 32803. © 2023 King Features Synd., Inc.
