Representative

Thomas E. Noret A Message to the Constituents of District 25 Dear Constituents: There seems to be some confusion over a recent mailing and social media post asking you to contact me on the issue of curbing carbon emission and transitioning to a green economy: House Bill 7277.

I’ve been contacted by constituents through Facebook, email and telephone, who are under the mistaken belief that I endorsed this mailer and post. This is NOT TRUE. The mailer and social media post are work product of the AFL-CIO and done without my consent or knowledge.

Thank you,

Tom

Prayer to the

BLESSED VIRGIN

(Never known to fail). O Most Beautiful Flower of Mt. Carmel, Fruitful Vine, Splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. O Star of the sea, help me and show me here in, you are my mother. O Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succor me in my necessity (make request). There are none that can withstand your power. O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3 times.) Holy Mary, I place this cause in your hands (3 times). Say this prayer for three consecutive days. You must publish it and it will be granted to you. Grateful Thanks. ARC

Located in a newly renovated plaza off Sandy Bottom Road in Coventry is one of the city’s best kept secrets, the Krystal Rose Salon. This busy and vibrant salon is the pride and joy of its owner, Krystal Rose Parrillo. Krystal, who has been a hair stylist for over 22 years, purchased this sparkly salon three years ago. Today, it is Krystal’s own sense of style and vision which is seen everywhere here, from its bustling stylist stations to its recently expanded wellness center. This salon is a place where clients can go to escape the world, to feel pampered, and to leave ready to take on the world. When Krystal became the owner of this salon, the most important thing she wanted to preserve was the close-knit “family feeling” that existed between her dedicated team of stylists, technicians, specialists, and therapists. The vibe in the salon is one of unity and a common purpose ~ the entire team wants their clients to feel beautiful, revived and completely relaxed when they are here. They know this can only begin in their stylist chairs, massage beds, nail stations or bioacoustic mat! The team at Krystal Rose Salon is made up of new and longstanding professionals alike who are all licensed in their respective fields and who each make a unique contribution to the salon. They are personally committed to providing their clients with an all-inclusive and restorative experience.

Some of the nineteen members of the dedicated and tight-knit team at Krystal Rose Salon, including owner and Master Stylist Krystal Parrillo in the center, have gathered for a quick “family” photo. Come get pampered and spoiled at this modern and elegant salon in Coventry

For those seeking something beyond hair or nail treatments, which are the mainstays of the salon, the salon’s wellness center offers a wide range of specialty services. Some of these include their customized full body massages, facial and body waxing, lash extensions, brow laminations, Reiki Treatments, Angel Card readings and ionic foot soaks (which help to detoxify the body). Don’t forget the salon’s spray tans to make your skin glow this summer! Skin care is also an important part of everyone’s beauty regiments. Through their talented estheticians, clients at the salon can have invigorating facials, skin analyses, skin mapping, power peels and more. Krystal Rose is a Dermalogica® Pro Salon; a product line that is Vegan, certified cruelty-free and contains no fragrances

or artificial colors. This is completely in alignment with the healthy, natural and mind/body/soul philosophy of this salon. Another unique service provided here is the Raindrop Therapy, a 90-minute massage that employs a combination of nine Young Living® essential oils. The purpose of this therapy is to stimulate the organs, muscles and bones of the body to improve your immune system, release toxins and bring your body into a state of equilibrium. Come to Krystal Rose Salon at 83 Sandy Bottom Road in Coventry. Call the salon at 401-822-4242 to make your appointment. To learn more, find them on Facebook and Instagram, but also visit their informative and comprehensive website, www.krystalrosesalon.com. The salon is open Tuesday ~ Saturday.

3D printed homes? Who would have thought? By Donna DeLauro We’ve come a long way with technology for the home over the past 50 years. From microImages courtesy of SQ4D Inc. wave ovens, digital thermostats, energy efficient appliances and mechanics to WIFI, smart tv’s, video surveillance etc. But who would have thought of the ability to build a home from a 3D printer??? Well, here we are in 2022 doing just that! The process is a combined effort of the designers, plumbers, electricians, roofers etc. and automated process for footings, pouring foundations, interior and exterior walls. 3D printing process allows for an efficient, ecofriendly, cost effective way to keep the product affordable and less time consuming with less waste. Check out the video at this YouTube link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IxVPpkkWXI

Market Matters Rates on the rise!! As expected for 2022, we are starting to see a changing Real Estate market with the recent interest rate increases and promises of more to come. Although a 5-6% rate seems high compared to the last few years of historic lows at 2-3%, the current rates are still considerably low and affordable for many qualified buyers. Seller inventory remains low, although slightly increasing from the past year. If you’re in the process of buying a home, it’s more important than ever to have a strong plan. Partner with a trusted real estate advisor and lender to strategize so you can achieve your dream of homeownership.

Thinking about selling or buying a home? Let’s discuss your specific goals

Taking home décor outdoors Planning gardens for color throughout the year

S

By Donna DeLauro

pring flowers and gardens are really starting to pop with beautiful colors to compliment your property. When planning your landscape seek professional advice for best plantings for your local climate. Think about your lot size and shape, and plan your desired trees, shrubs, flowers and mulch for optimal viewing pleasure. It is nice to see some color in all seasons. Even in Winter months you can enjoy landscape colors. Evergreens, like Arborvitaes that are pretty all year are a nice low maintenance choice. They can be kept trimmed for garden compliments or grown tall for privacy. Holly shrubs are also nice year round greens with beautiful red berries when planted correctly. Boxwood shrubs are pretty as well. Best of all these are great cuttings for wreaths, garland and other decorative accents to bring indoors all year. Add these greens to flower arrangements to keep your home cheerful during dreary Winter months. Spring blossoms on trees like Dogwoods, Cherry Blossom, and Magnolias are nice for early Spring color along with Azalea and Forsythia shrubs. Pros and cons to open-concept homes METRO

Open-concept homes have become increasingly popular in recent years. An open-concept home is one in which the rooms flow into one another with limited obstruction from walls or other barriers. According to the National Association of Home Builders, 84 percent of new single-family homes have fully or partially open layouts. While they may seem like a new trend, open floor plans are anything but. Early American homes featured open, often one- or two-room units built around the central kitchen/hearth. This maximized warmth and functionality. Homes evolved as incomes grew, and soon homes had several smaller rooms with specialized functions. What’s old has become new again. However, before diving head first into a new home purchase or a big renovation to realize an open-concept dream, consider the pros and cons of this type of setup to determine if it’s really right for you. Advantages of open floor plans Open floor plans facilitate the flow of natural light throughout a space and can promote air flow, helping to reduce warm or cool pockets of air in otherwise closed-off rooms. Open homes make socializing easier, even when people are doing different things. While someone is cooking dinner in the kitchen, he or she can still interact with someone else playing video games in the family room or paying bills in the home office. Entertaining also is easier, as mingling with guests is much more convenient when walls are not getting in the way. A smaller home can feel much larger if it employs an open concept. The square footage is not divided into smaller quarters, which sometimes are rooms (such as formal dining rooms) that are only used a few times per year. This eliminates underused spaces and opens up sight lines in the layout. The value of real estate has risen dramatically since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and prospective buyers may prefer an open-concept

plan because it can help them minimize building costs. Disadvantages of open floor plans Open layouts are not for everyone. The same sense of space that occurs when walls are taken down may make rooms feel cavernous and less cozy, particularly in homes with ample square footage. In addition, privacy can be hard to come by when all rooms feed into one another. When the kitchen is not separate from the family room space, that makes it easy for noise to compromise the area’s comfort levels. There is no hiding

from noise in an open floor plan, as sounds from voices, television shows and appliances tend to echo and blend together. And if the home is a single-story layout, those noises from the main living areas also may carry to adjacent bedrooms. Smoke and smells are another thing to consider. When something on the stove spills over, a small range hood will not be practical for clearing smoke from a large space. Though the aroma of freshly cooked food is enticing, it can make it hard for cooks to keep guests out of the kitchen. Open-concept homes are popular, but homeowners should weigh the pluses and minuses to see if this trend is truly right for them. SH222669

How to determine if it’s time to downsize METRO

Individuals work hard to save enough money to purchase their homes. And the hard work doesn’t end there. Once homeowners settle into a new home, they may set their sights on renovations that suit their individual needs. And even when buyers find a home that needs not such work, maintenance requires homeowners’ utmost attention. All that hard work is perhaps one reason why seniors may be a little reluctant to downsize as they advance through their golden years. In addition to the sweat equity homeowners put into their homes, all the memories they’ve made within their walls can make it harder to put a home on the market. Downsizing is a difficult decision that’s unique to each homeowner. Seniors who aren’t quite certain if downsizing is right for them can consider three key factors to make a decision that’s in their best interests. • Cost: Perhaps no variable affects senior homeowners’ decisions to downsize their homes as much as cost. No one wants to outlive their money, and downsizing to a smaller home can help seniors reduce their

monthly expenses by a significant margin. Even homeowners who have long since paid off their mortgages can save substantial amounts of money by downsizing to a smaller home or even an apartment or condominium. Lower property taxes, reduced insurance premiums and the need to pay for fewer repairs are just some of

There’s No Place Like Your Own Home!

the ways downsizing can save seniors money. • Space: Many people love the extra space that single-family homes provide. But seniors can take a walk through their homes and see how many rooms they still use on a consistent basis. If much of the home is unused, seniors can probably down-

size without adversely affecting their daily lives. • Market: The real estate market is another factor to consider when deciding if the time is right to downsize. A seller’s market can help seniors get the biggest return on their real estate investment, potentially helping them make up for meager retirement savings. For example, home prices skyrocketed across the country during the COVID-19 pandemic, making that a great time for sellers to put their homes on the market. Seniors selling to downsize may capitalize on such spikes since they won’t be looking to turn around and buy larger, equally expensive homes once they sell their current place. If the market is down and seniors can withstand the work and cost a little longer, it may be best to wait until things bounce back in sellers’ favor. Downsizing requires careful consideration of a host of variables. No two situations are the same, so seniors should exercise due diligence to determine if downsizing is right for them. TF222686

Give Jars in Bloom to Thank a Teacher As the school year winds down, it's time to show appreciation to a special teacher. Here's a springy idea: Arrange a casual bouquet of flowers with offshoots of your child's creativity.

Kids can show their creativity by decorating glass jars. First, choose some flowers and greens, such as hosta leaves and herbs for fragrance from your garden, or purchase a bouquet at your market. Let your child trim the stems, loosely arrange the blooms and greens in his hand, and then head for the recycle bin. The perfect "vase" for the blooms

just may be lurking behind a milk carton. I'm thinking pint-size pasta-sauce jars, but any glass pickle, mayonnaise or fruit jar makes a casual and charming "jar in bloom." Simply wash with soapy water, remove the label, tie twine around the rim, and set the bouquet inside. Add some water and a card, and it's ready to give. It's also fun for kids to decorate and personalize the jars before adding the flowers. Here are some handmade arty ideas using nontoxic paint pens, ribbon, wire, beads or anything that catches your child's attention in your craft box. • Compose a jingle or rhyme about the teacher receiving the bouquet and write it on the jar with paint pens. Tie ribbon around the rim and thread a few small beads near the ends of the ribbon to dangle on the jar. • Use acrylic paints to paint designs or images of the teachers' favorite things. • Simply write a thank-you greeting directly on the jar with paint pens, and then finish it off with copper wire twisted around the neck of the bottle several times. Arrange a curly willow branch and two or three flowers in the modern vase. EXTRA IDEA: Painted and decorated jars make attractive containers for displaying kids' summer camp and vacation nature finds. Write the place and date directly on the jar with paint pens and fill with pretty rocks from a lake in Wisconsin, mini pinecones from a woodland walk in Oregon, or sand from a beach in Florida. ARIES (March 21 to April 19) You might have to turn your Arian charm up a few degrees if you hope to persuade that persistent pessimist to see the possibilities in your project. Whatever you do, don’t give up. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) A “tip” about a co-worker’s “betrayal” might well raise the Bovine’s rage levels. But before charging into a confrontation, let an unbiased colleague do some fact-checking. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Although a relationship still seems to be moving too slowly to suit your expectations, it’s best not to push it. Let it develop at its own pace. You’ll soon get news about a workplace change. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) A continually changing personal situation makes you feel as if you’re riding an emotional roller coaster. But hold on tight; stability starts to set in early next week. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Believe it or not, someone might dare to say “No!” to the Regal One’s suggestion. But instead of being miffed, use this rebuff to recheck the proposition and, perhaps, make some changes. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) You might find it difficult to make a decision about a family matter. But delay can only lead to more problems. Seek out trusted counsel and then make that important decision.

LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) Concentrate your focus on what needs to be done, and avoid frittering away your energies on less-important pursuits. There’ll be time later for fun and games. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) Although the conflicts seem to be letting up, you still need to be wary of being drawn into workplace intrigues. Plan a special weekend event for family and/or friends. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) Your quick wit helps you work through an already difficult situation without creating more problems. Creative aspects begin to dominate by the week’s end. CAPRICORN (December 22 to January 19) Be patient. You’ll soon receive news about a project that means so much to you. Meanwhile, you might want to reconsider a suggestion you previously turned down. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) There are still some aspects about that new job offer you need to resolve. In the meantime, another possibility seems promising. Be sure to check that out as well. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) Opening up your emotional floodgates could leave you vulnerable to being hurt later on. Watch what you say, in order to avoid having your words come back to haunt you. BORN THIS WEEK: You’re usually the life of the party, which gets you on everyone’s invitation list. You also have a flair for politics.

HOLLYWOOD — Timothee Chalamet plays the young Willy Wonka in the prequel to “Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” called “Wonka,” which will show how he became the chocolate king. Also starring Olivia Coleman, “Mr. Bean” star Rowan Atkinson and Keegan-Michael Key, it opens in December 2023. Chalamet has completed the American/Italian coming-of-age romance/horror film “Bones and All,” co-starring Chloe Sevigny and Mark Rylance. “Downton Abbey: A New Era” includes a wedding, a funeral and the beautiful French countryside. Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Michelle Dockery and, of course, Maggie Smith have returned for this sequel, opening May 20 in theaters and July 4 on Peacock. *** “Wicked,” the hit Broadway musical prequel of “The Wizard of Oz,” is without a doubt the second most successful Broadway musical of the past 20 years. It’s grossed more than a billion dollars, second only to “The Lion King.” Universal Studios bankrolled the Broadway show with the proviso, of course, that it gets to make the film version. The long-awaited movie, now in pre-production, stars Ariana Grande as Glinda, the role played by Kristin Chenoweth, and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, played on Broadway by Idina Menzel. Now, here comes the twist. Universal, with dollar signs in their eyes and not satisfied with just its share of the billion-dollar bonanza from Broadway, must have looked at what Warners did with “Dune.” The original “Dune” opened in 1984 and was a modest success. The remake opened last September and grossed $400 million. In order to make the new “Dune” more epic, they split it into two films, allegedly to tell the story better, thereby hooking die-hard “Dune” fans for the second film. Ergo, Universal has

Warner Bros. Pictures

Timothee Chalamet in “Wonka” decided the film version of “Wicked” needs to be two separate films. Stephen Schwartz, who wrote “Wicked” for Broadway, is writing the music and lyrics for the film, while Winnie Holzman has written the screenplay. The studio explained, “It became impossible to wrestle the story of ‘Wicked’ into a single film without doing damage to Jon Chu’s adaption.” Chu, the director of “Wicked” (as well as “G.I. Joe Retaliation,” “Crazy Rich Asians” and “In the Heights”), explained, “As we tried to cut songs, to trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material, and we decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one ‘Wicked’ movie, but two.” Isn’t it strange that the original production, which opened in 2003, has played to full houses for 19 years at 2 hours and 45 minutes? Part one will open Dec. 25, 2024, with part two due Dec. 25, 2025. Methinks Universal is just being “Wicked”-ly greedy! © 2022 King Features Synd., Inc.

O Glorious St. Therese, whom Almighty God has raised up to aid and inspire the human family, I implore your Miraculous Intercession. You are so powerful in obtaining every need of body and spirit from the Heart of God. Holy Mother Church proclaims you “Prodigy of Miracles…the greatest saint of Modern Times. ”Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition (mention in silence here) and to carry out your promises of spending heaven doing good on earth…of letting fall from Heaven a Shower of Roses. Little Flower, give me your childlike faith, to see the Face of God in the people and experiences of my life, and to love God with full confidence. St. Therese, my Carmelite Sister, I will fulfill your plea “to be made known everywhere” and I will continue to lead others to Jesus through you. Amen. A.I.
