The best healthcare should always be part of your employment?

You should be able to earn a respectable wage for you and your family?

• This week we offer a hodgepodge of tips. Here’s one of my favorites: Use kitchen tongs to retrieve an item that is stuck behind a heavy piece of furniture. It is much easier than trying to move the couch. — Jo Ann • “To save money on going out to eat, we purchase gift cards at the local warehouse club we belong to. It’s usu ally 10% or 15% below face value, but that helps with the tip and tax.” — E.S. in Missouri • “Old suitcases (hard-sided ones) are really fun holders for craft sup plies. You can use hook and loop tape to secure smaller containers to the inside lining. This has worked well for my scrapbooking supplies. They are easy to carry from room to room.” — L.A. in Georgia

• If you have too many suds in the sink (or the tub), try pouring salt on the suds. They die down and can be washed away without creating more suds.•“We attached an over-the-door plastic shoe organizer to the back of our pantry door. The slots that are reachable by the kids hold healthy, single-serving snacks for the morn ing, to include in lunches or for afterschool snacking. It’s easy and the kids have choices!” — M.M. in West Vir ginia •

Trying to lose weight? Many of us eat portions that are waaaaay too much. Try using a smaller size plate, or one with a border around it. Stud ies show that people who do so serve themselves less food and still feel sat isfied. Send your tips to Now Here’s a Tip, 628 Virginia Drive, Orlando, FL 32803. © 2022 King Features Synd., Inc.

There is an oft-repeated phrase that says, “If walls could talk, what stories they would tell!” If this were true, and walls could talk, they would have so much to say about the new home of West Greenwich Grocery. Today, this welcoming roadside stop on Nooseneck Hill Road is owned by Denise Slater, a native Rhode Islander whose husband is the longtime owner of Slater’s Exeter Auto Repair. Denise purchased the building in 2019 from Jean Johnson, the “J” in “T & J’s Hay & Grain Shop”. But West Greenwich Grocery’s story began long before Denise and a dedicated group of friends and family gave it the extensive makeover it needed to become the modern convenience store it is today. The building had been home to a host of former owners, from the more recent grain store all the way back to the 1950’s when it was a grocery store run by Chuggs Hoxsie who sold groceries and repaired tractors on the property! For a while, it was a gas station run by the Rathbun family ~ why, even Hollywood came calling to use the building in a movie! If the walls of West Greenwich Grocery could talk, what stories they would have to tell of this longstanding landmark in the city! Three years ago, Denise, who is not only a small business owner but also a collector of antiques, a mother of two sons, a grandmother of two-year-old Sophia, a community leader, a caretaker, AND a former car mechanic, was up to the challenge of taking this old building and putting her own mark on it. Armed with a crew of able-bodied helpers, a new vision of what this space could become and a sensitive eye to its interesting past, Denise got to work. Passersby who travel down Nooseneck Hill Road will hardly recognize West Greenwich Grocery today with its rustic wood exterior, friendly sign on the door, and front porch with comfy benches. The lumber, which was sourced from Kenyon Mill, gives the store the appearance of a log cabin ~ you just can’t resist the temptation to go inside! As soon as you walk inside the grocery, you see shelves lined with every convenience you can imagine, from the usual snack items to take on the road to the basics for any pantry to fresh, local vegetables and lots of frozen foods. There are household items including toiletries, cleaning products, pet food, cigarettes, and so much more ~ a little bit of this and a little bit of that! Finally, Denise has made an extraordinary e ort to support local artists, farmers, beekeepers, and craftsmen. You will nd honey, maple syrup, candles ~ and so much more.West Greenwich Grocery is home to everything you need. The store is open seven days a week from 8:00am – 7:00pm and is located at 789 Nooseneck Hill Road. Find them on Instagram, Facebook, Google and Yelp. Questions? Call 401-642-6803.

Depending on the product, a sub scription may be needed to access video history. Door bells range from $50 to $200 and more depending on fea tures and resolution.

The real estate market has been a wild ride in re cent years. Sellers have cashed in on record-breaking prof its, and buyers have had to compete against many others — sometimes in bidding wars — for a limited number of properties. Once listed, homes are selling fast. As inter est rates rise and inventory increases, things are likely to change, though for some it did not come soon enough. Individuals who were lucky enough to find a new home this year may discover they now have little money to outfit those homes. Shoppers with new homeowners on their holiday shopping lists may want to help those loved ones outfit their homes this season. The following are some home-related gift ideas to get shoppers started.

• Furniture gift card: There’s a good chance new homeowners will need to furnish new rooms in a home, particularly if they’re coming from an apartment or a smaller place. Many people also like to update furnishings when they move into new places. A gift card to a popu lar furniture store in the area will provide the head-start new homeowners need to secure sofas, dining sets, lamps, rugs, and more.

• In the 1970s, American Kitchen Foods, Inc., perhaps inspired by a picky young eater at home, tried disguising peas in a fry-shaped form with a prod uct called “I hate peas.”

What to give new homeowners this holiday season

• Household tool kit: What better way to pre pare new homeowners for the do-it-yourself projects and household repairs than with a tool kit? Home improve ment retailers often package common tools needed in carrying cases or sets, but shoppers can grab separate items they think will be used and group them together into one gift. Pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, a level, and measuring tape are good starter tools.

At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, news about the automotive indus try focused largely on how consumers were not buying new cars and demand was way down, largely due to people staying home. Howev er, over time, the big news on the automobile front was how semiconductor chip shortages were halting production lines and leading to unprecedented supply shortages — despite re cord demand. Semiconductor chips are found in laptops and other electronics, including ve hicles. These industries have had to cut back on the number of items they produce as a result. In June 2022, Toyota announced it would be cutting its production quota in July by 50,000 units. Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger now expects the semiconductor industry to be impacted by shortages until 2024 due to a lack of man ufacturing equipment. Other factors affecting chip production are limited access to purified neon gas, as Ukraine supplies 25 to 35 percent of this gas, as well as a lack of palladium, which is largely supplied by Russia. In addition, air transport costs continue to go up. Semicon ductor chips control functions of touchscreens, braking systems, backup cameras, and even airbag deployment systems. Automobiles may even have chips in engines.

As unfortunate as it may be, it would be no surprise to me if you, or those close to you, have experienced symptoms of depression. Depression affects over 320 million people and is the leading cause of disability worldwide. From sad moods, and anxious thoughts, to low energy, thoughts of not wanting to be alive, and feelings of hopelessness, these are just a snapshot into the dark world of depression that has consumed the lives of so many. Its devastating grip wreaks havoc on one’s ability to maintain relationships, function at work, or simply enjoy activities.

1. It’s not your fault. You didn’t do anything wrong. Actually, you did great, you birthed babies and your body is awesome!! You deserve to feel connected to your body again, you deserve to feel good about your body. 2. The way your body feels right now is not ‘as good as it gets’. You should put up with, accept or believe that you cannot be better. Don’t let anybody, medical professional or otherwise, tell you differ ent.3. It is not vain, selfish or a low priority to desire a body that functions as it should and makes you feel good! Wetting yourself when you laugh or sneeze, not wanting to look at your naked self or to have sex is not superficial. It’s vital.

In the world of psychiatry, TMS Therapy is a revolutionary and innovative treatment option for Major Depressive Disorder. This non-invasive procedure - which uses magnetic pulses to focally target underactive areas in the brain associated with mood - was granted FDA approval in 2008 and has been used since to treat individuals with resistant depression.

TMS follows an outpatient treatment plan that includes daily, Monday through Friday, sessions typically over a six-to-nine-week period. Patients remain fully awake and alert during their TMS treatment sessions and they can travel independently to and from the clinic and continue with their day-to-day activities without limitation. TMS therapy can be given alone, or as an add-on to ongoing psychiatric medications. This treatment has coverage policies for nearly all commercial insurance carriers including Medicare and Medicaid. Published reports from TMS treatment studies show more than half of patients treated with TMS therapy experienced significant improvements in depression symptoms and about one-third of patients experience remission of the depressive episode. TMS-treated patients have experienced significant improvements in their mood, anxiety, functioning, pleasure, appetite changes, aches and pains, lack of energy, and other debilitating symptoms associated with their depression. Patients have described this treatment as “life-changing” resulting in a positive impact within all spheres of life. Although there is no known “cure” for depression, many individuals may return for another series of TMS when they notice their symptoms begin to re-surface. Recent data suggests about 90% can recapture past responses to TMS and start to feel wellTMSagain.Therapy is an important consideration for those who don’t respond to standard interventions that are meant to treat depression. Butler Hospital’s TMS Clinic is the region’s premier treatment center, and they are ready to Interestedserve. patients should call the clinic at (401) 455-6632 to see if TMS might be their way out of the darkness.

Furthermore, people who suffer from depression anticipate an unforeseeable end to its dark tunnel. And those who bear witness to this suffering feel powerless in how to help. So, they often default to mainstream strategies, such as psychotherapy or antidepressant medication, to aid in recovery. For many, these treatment options are effective but there are many who don’t find relief in these measures and they are left wondering what their alternative options might be.

— Sherry in Dallas, Texas DEAR SHERRY: I’m so glad to hear that Jessup is doing well! Yes, blue-green algae, also known as cya nobacteria, is toxic and can make a dog very ill if it’s ingested. It exists in many bodies of freshwater and grows rapidly when the water temperature is over 75 degrees — so it’s at its highest levels, and most dangerous, in the hot summer months. Look carefully at the water in the lake or pond before letting your dog near it. If you see a lot of pea-green growth and a slimy look to the water at the shoreline, don’t let your dog jump in.Even if the water looks OK, check to see if any “no swimming” signs are posted nearby. You also can check your local county or city website or parks department for a water quality report. And even if the water is OK for people and dogs to swim in, be sure to rinse your dog’s coat in clean tap water as soon as possible after swimming. Send your tips, comments or questions to ask@pawscorner.com.

A:The bright red Fisher-Price Wind-Up Teaching Clock you are talking about was made from 1964 to 1968. It was made to look like the front of a schoolhouse, complete with a teacher welcoming children in the front door and a school bell at the top of the toy, near the bright yellow han dle. When you wound it up, it played the Grandfathers Clock Song. The clock face had big numbers, images of the sun and moon, and the clock hands moved around as the song played. It taught motor skills and how to tell time. In good condition, the clock sells for around $60. * * *

Toleware

Toleware was popular in New England and nearby areas in the 1700s. Collectors today identify the existing pieces by similarities in the shapes and painted decorations on newly discov eredTwopieces.paint colors were used as the base coat to protect the tin from rust; black or red was used in Pennsylvania, but only black was favored in parts of NewPennsylvaniaEngland. makers usually made a straight spout and a handle with an extra piece to reinforce the curve in the handle. New England makers favored a simple curved handle. The body was a lighthouse shape, and tinsmiths made a gooseneck spout. Yellow, green, red and white flowers and leaves were stenciled on as dec orations. The tinware lost favor when copper and silver plate became more available because tin often rusted. But some of the small utensils, such as cookie cutters and funnels, remained in use. * * *

It’s a quandary. How do we avoid spending Labor Day laboring in the kitchen, but also celebrate the last hurrah of summer with a delicious meal? Here’s how! We’re going to employ the grill and concoct a Mediterranean inspired feast that is very inexpensive, easy and fast to prepare. Everything can be prepared in advance then grilled in 20 minutes to be served at your leisure during your gathering. Bonus — cooking outside keeps the house cooler, too. On the menu this weekend is an easy Mediterranean Chicken and Veggie Kabob, filled with tender chicken and sweet summer vege tables made even sweeter by the smoke from the grill. We’re using chicken thighs for easy grilling and low-cost. To accompany this, we have refreshing homemade tzatziki sauce. If this is new to you, tzatzi ki is a cold yogurt sauce with cucum bers, garlic, dill and lemon juice. It’s incredibly popular in Greece, where it’s slathered on top of nearly every thing. To enhance the salty tang of this sauce we’re adding feta cheese. To finish this off, we’ll have pillowy pita bread, warmed on the grill. This delicious combination is seasonal, festive and MEDITERRANEANaffordable.

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Rela tionships continue to thrive, but watch for any telltale signs of potential prob lems. Take needed action now to set things straight, before they become troublesome later.

VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Ease up on the pressure you might be putting on the new person in your life. It takes time for a budding rela tionship to blossom. Showing them more patience and understanding will help.

CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Expect to make adjustments, even when things seem locked up and ready to go. But, cheer up: At least one change could lead to something you’ve been hoping for. LEO (July 23 to August 22) The success of a recent project should do a lot to boost your self-confidence. You might want to check out ways to make that long-deferred bigger and bolder move.

EASY TZATZIKI SAUCE WITH FETA Yield: 4 (1/3 cup) servings Time: 10 minutes What You’ll Need: 1 (approximately 10 ounce) cucum ber1 cup plain Greek yogurt Juice and zest of one lemon 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill or 2 teaspoons dried dill 1/4 cup (2 ounces) feta cheese, crumbledBlackpepper, to taste Here’s How: Using a box grater, grate the cucum ber on the largest grating side, then squeeze it in a clean kitchen towel to remove most (but not all) of the liquid. Place the cucumber in a medium bowl and add the yogurt, lemon, garlic, dill and feta. Stir to combine and set aside so the flavors can marry. This can be made in advance and refrigerat ed, if desired. Before serving, add black pepper to taste and squeeze a lemon wedge over the bowl and stir once more. This recipe easily doubles, and any leftovers can be refrigerated for three to four days. I hope the holiday weekend finds you relaxing with full tummies and fuller hearts.
