Welcome to Bead Cruise 2022 I am so excited to be your new Bead Cruise organizer for our 16th anniversary! I would like to welcome you all aboard and to wish each of you a fantastic time cruising, beading and enjoying the warm waters of the Caribbean. This commemorative booklet was created as a starting point for your bead adventure and a memento of our journey. You’ll find projects from myself as well as from our generous sponsors along with resources for all your bead needs. The Swag Bag/Design contest items have been generously donated by the sponsors featured in this booklet. After the cruise take some time to visit their websites. Our sponsors would love to hear from you. If you make something with their product snap a photo and share it with them! Wishing each of you a fantastic Bead Cruise,

Beki Haley

One of your main goals throughout this project will be to maintain steady tension. Don’t let your chain bunch up or be sloppy, you want it to retain an even and fluid shape. 1. Beginning with 2 yards of thread, move through the 3rd link in on the end of one piece of chain. 2. Add a 4mm FP, and move through the 3rd link in, on the second piece of chain.

Figure 1.

3. Add one 11/o, Skip a link, and go through the next (5th), heading inward. 4. Add a 4mm FP, and move through the link directly across from you, on the first piece of chain (5th in from the end), heading outward. Figure 1. 5. Add one 11/o and pull it down to the chain, tie a knot between your needle and tail ends of the thread. Leave a tail 4-6” long to knot off/bury at the end. From this point on, you will always want the 11/os to fall on the same side/top and outer part of the chain links. 6. Move through the closest chain link (same direction you have been traveling), FP, link, 11/o, link, FP, and link. Figure 2. 7. Repeat Step 3 (this time, 7th link), then Repeat Step 4 (again 7th). 8. When you add your 11/o this time, you will move back to the 5th link. Continue through FP, link, 11/o, link, FP, and link. This will bring you in a forward motion again. Figure 3.

9. By now hopefully you have recognized the RAW hiding in between pieces of chain. Continue in this manner until you have stitched the correct length for your bracelet. Remember to account for your space at the ends, clasp, etc. Trim your chain to fit, leaving two open links on each side. Tie knots and bury all remaining threads within the stitched portion. A closeup picture of the bracelet ends is provided to show how you will easily add a few jump rings, the other piece of chain, along with your clasp and wire wrapped ‘charms’ to complete the project. Basic Stitches Used: Back Stitch: Pick up 2 beads. Push the beads down to the foundation. Go back through the foundation a distance equal to the two beads. Go back up through the foundation and pass through the 2 beads. Pick up 2 more beads. Push these beads down to the foundation. Go back through the foundation the distance of the two beads again. Go back up through the foundation and pass thru 3 beads. Continue this pattern, add 2 beads, pass thru 3 beads, all the way around the bezel. At the end, go back up through the last bead and first bead to fully connect the beading around the bezel.

Standard Brick Stitch: Edge Discussion and tips. Travel with needle and thread to exit the foundation on the top. You will be sewing an edge all around the piece using a standard brick stitch edge. Using colored thread to match the beads is a good choice at this point. Process for brick stitch edge: Start with 2 beads. Catch the foundation and ultra-suede and pass back thru the second bead from the base of the foundation out to the open. After the first two beads add one bead at a time in the same manner. Connect the first and last bead by sewing around top to top and bottom to bottom. Pass back thru the very first bead to straighten and be sure to catch the foundation and backing, then you can work your thread in and you are finished.
