Preparing for Graduate School Freshmen Year • Start exploring careers and requirements • Meet with faculty and current graduate students at your current institution • Get involved in undergraduate research • Join a STEM student organization

Junior Year • Identify universities with graduate programs related to your research interests • Speak with faculty and current graduate students in the program • Prepare for GRE (if required) • Speak with faculty about being references • Update resume/CV • Begin writing statements of purpose

Sophomore Year • Continue exploring career options • Seek out summer undergraduate research opportunities (REU’s) • Continue research on campus

Senior Year • Need to know where you are applying by the start of the fall term • Ask faculty for letters of recommendation early in the fall semester • Have resume and statement of purpose reviewed • Practice interviewing • Apply for graduate funding
