A Letter from the Headmaster
Thank you for helping us build a legacy
The 2014-2015 school year was a culmination of many years of planning and hard work by the Board of Trustees, faculty and staff, and administration. It was also a testament to the generosity of our community, including current families, parents of alumni, and grandparents. We reached the end of our first Strategic Plan, debuted our new plan, Dare to Dream, and completed the construction of our new Upper School building. As part of the site preparation for the new building, my home had to be torn down. A faculty member learned of my daughter’s distress that one of her favorite cherry trees would also be plowed down to make way for construction. He took the initiative to dig up the tree and replant it in our new garden, much to the delight of my daughter. This thoughtful gesture and hard work modeled for my daughter in a very tangible way, the lessons of compassion and courage which take place in the classroom every day. And now this tree lives on as a long-term gift for my family and for many others to come who will enjoy the shade it offers. That tree also represents legacy. A relatively small, yet thriving young tree now, will continue to grow and bear fruit for many more years into the future, much like our students and the school itself. Our work here at Bear Creek is a legacy for the community in much the same way. We are educating students now so they may become the individuals God intends; gracing the future with actions guided by wisdom, compassion, and courage. While it is impossible to distill everything that makes up a school year into a set of figures and statistics, this Annual Report for fiscal year 2014-2015 offers a glimpse into the legacy we continue to build in the lives of our students and our community. I am grateful for the generosity of everyone who has given of their time, talent, treasure, and prayers to create amazing new physical spaces and support the extraordinary education programs for our students.
