Owen Dixon Chambers East 8 March - 9 April 2021
Melbourne based artist, I currently work mainly in bronze. I graduated with a MA in Art and Curatorial Studies in 1994 and have exhibited professionally for a number of years, and am a member of various prominent artist and sculptor organisations. I am currently working on a new body of work that focuses on Migration. Boats metaphorically represent the paradoxical ease and difficulty of movement and travel embodied in the experience of migration. In 2017 I participated in an art residency at the Wharf Road Studio, Stanley, Tasmania where I was mentored by Jon Eiseman, Sculptor and Anne Conron, printmaker & ceramicist. This residency enabled me to obtain critical feedback on my work and produce a significant new body of work. Lovers is one of the works from my five week residency in Tasmania.

During May & June 2018 I was one of the artists at the Fish Factory Creative Centre, a multi-disciplinary Art Residency in Stöðvarfjörður, Iceland. For two months I worked and lived with other international artists in a new and unfamiliar environment. The Völvas is one of the works from my two month residency at the Fish Factory, Iceland. The Völvas were the female shamans in the Viking age and very much part of Norse Mythology. The word Volvas means wand carrier or carrier of a magic staff. As part of this sculpture I have incorporated the staff and bags in which herbs were carried.

In 2019, I participated in an art residency at Gæsteatelier Hollufgård, Denmark. This was an ideal environment both for working and the healthy exchange of ideas between fellow residents. It also provided me with a fresh outlook on my work. I was able to bring back new research including photos, sketches and a number of wax models for bronze sculptures.
