PROJECTS

❯  SITUATION:

After hurricane Alex hit the city of Monterrey, Mexico in 2010, we were asked to design 9m2 easy-to-build emergent housing for people who had lost their homes.

❯  SOLUTION: Housing

Patio

- Housing modules of 4. - Capacity for 3 to 4 people in each house. - Counts with a moving eating table. - If desired, housing can be grown into the ‘patio’ area for more space. - Each module has natural ventilation and lighting. - The materials chosen for the project can be easily and rapidly brought to the site. - Easy-to-mount plywood for walls & furniture and galvanized sheets for rooftops. -  Project developed in collaboration with Jorge Fco. Figueroa.

A. 9M2 EMERGENT HOUSING

❯  SITUATION:

- Project located in the highway between the cities of Saltillo and Monterrey in the hills of a mountain. -  The cabin was meant for weekend getaways and short vacations with family. -  The lot area is about 2880m2 and has very pronounced slopes. -  One of the clients petitions was to keep most of the vegetation around.

❯  SOLUTION:

- Designed after the idea of separating the common and private areas such as living/ kitchen and bedrooms with just 162m2. - The cabins has one master bedroom and two secondary bedrooms. As well as two bathrooms. - The orientation allows great views and natural lighting.

B. ‘EL JONUCO’ CABIN

❯  SITUATION:

- The lot is situated in Guadalupe, N.L. Mexico, and has a total area of 5,830m2. - The site has a very unique touch to it: an old tree that has to be kept by the clients demand. -Because the lot is located by a very busy avenue, the project must provide a commercial center and multiple apartments with different sizes.

❯  SOLUTION:

❯  DESIGN CONCEPT

❯ COMMERCIAL CENTER

❯ RESIDENTIAL AREA

❯ UNDERGROUND PARKING: 322 m2. ❯ COMMERCIAL USE: 2,700 m2. ❯ OFFICE SPACES: 450 m2. ❯ RESIDENTIAL USE: 7,054 m2.

- The design proposes the commercial center with 3 stories and one more story for office rentals at the front of the avenue line so the drivers can spot the building just by a glimpse. We offer 24 locals with 90m2 each, - The apartments are separated in 3 different towers depending on their size and spaces. - Towers A and B feature 75m2, 103m2 and 150m2 apartments. While tower C present only 3m2 and 150m2 apartments. - The whole development counts with 2 underground parking lots to serve the commercial plaza and the apartments with a total of 250 spaces. -  Project developed in collaboration with Monica Cruz and Laura Martinez.

❯  SITUATION: ❯  COMMON AREAS WORK AS AN INDIRECT BARRIER

❯  CAMPUS ACCESS: EASY ACCESS TO MULTIPURPOSE ROOM. DAILY ACCESS TO GIRLS’ AND KINDERGARTENS’ AREAS. SERVICE ENTRANCE. DAILY AND INDEPENDENT ACCESS FOR BOYS’ AREAS.

❯  GREEN AREAS: EACH SCHOOL COUNTS WITH A SOCCER COURT SPACE AND MORE.

- The Ciudad de los Niños association were in need of a new school campus so Architecture For Humanity chapter Monterrey put up a contest for the new masterplan. -  The client asked for two separate schools for boys and girls. In this case girls would share with kindergarten. -  The only space that could be shared between boys and girls was the kitchen, so it could serve both schools.

❯  SOLUTION:

- The design concept was created after two horizontal axes. These contrasting with a perpendicular limit used to separate schools. -  The spaces left outside these limits are solved as parking lots. -  Girls and kindergarten are located at the left while boys are at the right. -  The common areas in the schools work as an invisible barrier between boys and girls. Both dinning rooms and the kitchen were located in the middle of the project to avoid a massive dividing wall.

❯  SITUATION:

- The lot is located in the heart of the city of Monterrey, Mexico. - Because it is in a very touristic zone, the client wanted a design that included a hotel, a commercial center and a business center also. - The challenge would be separating each use so the people staying at the hotel wouldn’t interact with the ones in the business center or the people shopping with the office employees.

❯  3D CONCEPT MODEL

- The final design consists of 3 independent buildings put together. - Since the hotel would accommodate tourists, we opted for them to have the best views, and since the business center needs more quiet space, we located the office building in the back so the employees can enjoy more privacy from the commercial center and hotel. - We also added 2 green roofs so every hotel room and/or office can enjoy a nice view. -  Project developed in collaboration with Jorge Palau & Jose Ancer.
