IT’S TIME TO CELEBRATE! Mayor John Stewart’s Column In earlier columns, I’ve talked about some of the new approaches council and administration are taking in building and growing Beaumont and how we’re going about it differently. It’s hard to believe we are over half way through 2019. While much of the work has been behind the scenes, I can attest to that, it has been an incredibly busy year so far for our administration and city staff. We have challenged our team to think differently and embrace change. And that they have and continue to. As residents though, I challenge you to think about what your role is in building our city because as a community, we all have a role to play. What can it be? What do you want to bring to the table? How are you contributing to the conversation? The world is rapidly changing and as a region, and more specifically as a community, we must adapt, grow and embrace the future. As mayor, I have found these kinds of thought-provoking questions that have been posed to me in a myriad of forums amongst my municipal peers challenging in fantastic ways. Ways that have made myself and council pause to have robust discussions to ensure the

decisions made are ones that are in the best interest of Beaumont’s future and ones that will enhance the collective vision for the Edmonton Metropolitan Region. When we ‘officially’ became a city this past January, it was a bit brisk for a full-on outdoor party, and we let the community know that we were going to celebrate in the spring! To celebrate our past to present, our strong sense of community and the vibrant risk-taking spirit that’s taking us into the future. Thousands of residents joined us for the City Celebration Party on June 14 and the next day for Town & Country Daze. These events exemplified our new brand, celebrated “with spirit” and we showed the Edmonton Metropolitan Region how we can come together as a community, open our arms to the region and celebrate our history and future.
