Specifiers and builders focus heavily on reducing risk and while that’s understandable, it often leads to overspecification. This can actually lead to increased risk, increased total life-cycle costs, or compromised usability of the space. For example; over-specifying the slip-rating requirement for a floor tile in an aged-care application can result in restricted mobility for the occupant. Or in a shopping centre, it could affect the ability to clean the surface, resulting in more aggressive cleaning practices and thus accelerated wear and tear of the surface
