INSTALLATIONGUIDE

Flooringproductscanbedamagedbyroughhandlingbeforeinstallation.Exercisecare whenhandlingandtransportingtheseproductsStore,transportandhandlethecartonsin amannertopreventanydamage.Storecartonsflat,neveronedge.

Itispreferabletolayboardsperpendiculartothewindow,followingthedirectionofthe mainsourceoflight.Forthebestresult,makesuretoalwaysworkfrom3to4cartonsata time,mixingtheplanksduringtheinstallation

I.GENERALPREPARATIONS

Checkifsubfloor/siteconditionscomplywiththespecificationsdescribedinthese instructions.Ifyouarenotsatisfied,donotinstall,andcontactyoursupplier.

Flooringproductscanbeheavyandbulky.Alwaysuseproperliftingtechniqueswhen handlingtheseproductsWheneverpossible,makeuseofmaterialhandlingequipment suchasdolliesormaterialcarts.Neverliftmorethanyoucansafelyhandle;getassistance.

Thankyouforchoosingourflooring.Whenproperlyinstalledandcaredfor,yournewflooring willbeeasytomaintainandwillkeepitsgreatlookforyearsPleasereadalltheinstructions beforeyoubegintheinstallationImproperinstallationwillvoidthewarranty

Calculatetheroomsurfacepriortoinstallationandplananextra5-10%offlooringfor cuttingwaste

Priortoinstallation,inspectmaterialindaylightforvisiblefaults/damage,includingdefects ordiscrepanciesincolororgloss;checktheedgesoftheflooringforstraightnessandany damageNoclaimsonsurfacedefectswillbeacceptedafterinstallation

Theflooringisintendedtobeinstalledininteriorlocationsonly.Itisnottobeinstalledin areasthatareexposedtotheelements,suchasoutdoorareas,semi-covered/“alfresco” outdoorareas,porches,etc

Flooringshouldonlybeinstalledintemperaturecontrolledenvironments.Itisnecessaryto maintainaconstanttemperatureof15-30°Candtherelativehumiditybetween30-65% beforeandduringtheinstallationPortableheatersarenotrecommendedastheymaynot heattheroomandsubfloorsufficientlyKeroseneheatersshouldneverbeused

Afterinstallation,makesurethattheflooringisnotbeexposedtotemperatureslessthan 32˚F/0°Corgreaterthan122˚F/50°Candtherelativehumiditybetween30-65%.

Inmostcases,thisproductdoesnotneedtobeacclimatedHowever,iftheboxesof flooringwereexposedover2hourstoextremetemperaturesunder60°F/15°Corover 95°F/35°Cwithinthe12hoursbeforetheinstallation,acclimationisrequired.Inthis case,keeptheboardsinroomtemperatureforatleast12hoursinunopenedpackage beforeyoustarttheinstallation.Theroomtemperaturemustbebetween60-86°F/1530°Candtherelativehumidityshouldbemaintainedconsistentbetween30-65%before andduringtheinstallation

Substratesmustbefreefromexcessivemoistureoralkali.Removedirt,paint,varnish,wax, oils,solvents,anyforeignmatterandcontaminates

Note:Itmaynotbethefloorcoveringinstaller’sresponsibilitytoconductthesetests.Itis, however,thefloorcoveringinstaller’sresponsibilitytomakesurethesetestshavebeen conducted,andthattheresultsareacceptablepriortoinstallingthefloorcovering.When moisturetestsareconducted,itindicatestheconditionsonlyatthetimeofthetest.The floorshouldnotbeinstalledonsubfloorwithexcessivemoistureemission.

Thesubfloormustbedry.ComplywithMcrequirementsandtestedasperoneofbelow methods: •Concretemoisturevaporemissionsshouldnotexceed8lb/3.63kgMVER(moisture vaporemissionrate)per1000ft2/100m2per24hours.Thiscanbemeasuredwith thecalciumchloridetest(ASTMF1869)

•Max25%moisturecontent(CMmethod/ASTMF2659)

II.SUBFLOORINFORMATION

WOODSUBFLOORS

Donotuseproductscontainingpetroleum,solventsorcitrusoilstopreparesubstrates.

Nailorscrewevery6”/15cmalongjointstoavoidsqueaking. BasementsandcrawlspacesmustbedryUseofa6mil/015mmpolyfilmisrequiredto cover100%ofthecrawlspaceearth.

Forfloorsurfacesexceeding6400ft2/620m2and/orlengthsexceeding80ft/25m,use transitionmoldingsleavingmin1/4”/6mmgaps.

Althoughthisflooriswaterproof,itisnottobeusedasamoisturebarrier,excessive subfloormoisturecanbeabreedinggroundformold,mildewandfungusallofwhichcan contributetoanunhealthyindoorenvironment.

Ifthisflooringisintendedtobeinstalledoveranexistingwoodfloor,itisrecommendedto repairanylooseboardsorsqueaksbeforeyoubegintheinstallation

Theproductcanbeinstalledonsubstrateswithgroutsorgroovesifthesearelessthan 3/16”/5mminwidthand3/16”/4mmindepth.Depressions,deepgrooves,expansion jointsandothersubfloorimperfectionsthatdonotmeetthisrequirementmustbefilled withpatching&levelingcompoundpriortoinstallation.

Timbersubfloorsmusthavenomorethan12%Mc(moisturevaporcontent).

Theflooringcanbeinstalledovermostexistinghardsurfacefloorcoverings,providedthat theexistingfloorsurfaceisclean,flat,dry,securelyfastened,structurallysoundandlevel to3/16”/5mmwithin10ft/3m.

Anytypeofcarpet. Existingcushionbackedvinylflooring

Laytheflooringcrosswaystotheexistingfloorboards.

Existingconcretesubfloorsmustbefullycured,atleast60daysold,smooth,permanently dry,clean,andfreeofallforeignmaterialsuchasdust,wax,solvents,paint,grease,oils, andoldadhesiveresidue.

•Max.2.5%moisturecontent(CMmethod/ASTMF2659).

Aminimum6mil/0.15mmpolyfilmasamoisturebarriermustbeusedbetweenthe concretesubfloorandtheflooring.

Anytypeoffloatingfloor.

•Maximumoperatingtemperatureshouldneverexceed81°F/27°C.Useofanin floortemperaturesensorisrecommendedtoavoidoverheating.

CONCRETESUBFLOORS

DONOTINSTALLOVER

Hardwoodflooring/woodsubfloorsthatlaydirectlyonconcreteoroverdimensional lumberorplywoodusedoverconcrete.

•Turntheheatofffor24hoursbefore,duringand24hoursafterinstallationwhen

Allothersubfloors-Plywood,OSB,particleboard,chipboard,waferboard,etc.mustbe structurallysoundandmustbeinstalledfollowingtheirmanufacturer’srecommendations.

•In-floorRadiantHeat:Yournewflooringcanbeinstalledover1/2"/12mm embeddedradiantheatusingthefloatingmethod.

•90%RH(ASTMF2170)withaPHlimitof9.

Ifthefloorhasapreattachedunderlayment,theuseofanadditionalunderlaymentcould damagethelockingmechanismandwillvoidwarranty.

DoublelayeredAPAratedplywoodsubfloorsshouldbeaminimum1"/25mmtotal thickness,withatleast18"/45cmwellventilatedairspacebeneath.

Thesubfloormustbedry.ComplywithMcrequirementsandtestedasperoneofbelow methods: •Concretemoisturevaporemissionsshouldnotexceed8lb/3.63kgMVER(moisture vaporemissionrate)per1000ft

•Makesurethatthetemperatureintheroomismaintainedconsistentbetween60 86°F/15-30°Cbeforeandduringtheinstallation.

Oncetheinstallationiscompleted,theheatingsystemshouldbeturnedonatthe ambienttemperatureandincreasedgradually5-degreeincrementsevery12 hoursuntilreachingnormaloperatingconditions.

Tip:Thebestideatomaximizetheresultsofyourheatingsystemistohave“ON” timeswithacomforttemperatureand“OFF”timeswithsetbacktemperatureswhich arenormally4°clowerthanyourcomforttemperatureThesetbacktemperaturesare particularlyimportantasthesewon’tletthetemperatureofyourroomdroptoomuch, meaningitismuchquickertoheatyourroombacktocomfortlevelswhenit’sneeded.

Warning:Electricheatingmatsthatarenotembeddedintothesubfloorarenot allowedforuseunderneaththefloors.Usingelectricheatingmatsthatarenot embeddedandapplieddirectlyunderneaththefloorvoidsthewarranty.

Important:Whencuttingthisproductpleaseuseadustmaskorothersafeguardsfor personalprotection,itisadvisedtocutinawellventilatedarea.

Removebaseboard,quarterroundmoldings,wallbase,appliancesandfurniturefrom room.Forbestresults,doortrimshouldbeundercuttoallowflooringtomovefreely withoutbeingpinched.Afterpreparationwork,sweepandvacuumtheentireworkareato removealldustanddebris.

III.INSTALLATION TOOLSANDSUPPLIESREQUIRED:

Measuretheareatobeinstalled:

Ifthefloorhasapreattachedunderlayment,theuseofanadditionalunderlaymentcould damagethelockingmechanismandwillvoidwarranty. 1

Leaveagapof1/4”/6mmtothewalltoavoidanydamage whileinstallingyourfloorandmeasurethelengthofthelastplanktofit.Inserttheshort sideandtapitclosed,usingapullbar.

Inserttheendtongueontheshortsideofthesecondplank intotheendgrooveofthefirstoneandrotatedownwardtoassemble.Makesureboth planksareperfectlyaligned.

Beginlayinginthelefthandcorner,withthegroovededgevisibleandfacingoutward.Use spacersbetweenthewallandthefloorboardinordertokeepa1/4”/6mmgap.

UNDERLAY:Ifthefloordoesnothaveapreattachedunderlayment,anadditional underlaymentisrecommendedinordertoimproveacousticperformanceandabsorb someirregularitiesonthesubstrate.Bestresultscanbeexpectedwithanunderlaymentof max.0.04”/1mmthicknesswithahighdensity(>11.2lbs/ft3/>180kg/m3)andhigh compressivestrength(>200kPa)thatsupportstheclicksystemduringdailyuse Underlaymentswithalowdensityandaninadequatecompressivestrengthcoulddamage thelockingmechanismandwillvoidwarranty.

Theboardwidthofthelastrowshallnotbelessthan2” /50mm.Ifso,adjustthewidthofthefirstrowtobeinstalled.Innarrowhallways,itis recommendedtoinstallthefloorparalleltothelengthofthehall

Firstrow,secondplank:

NOTE:Ifyounoticebothplanksaren’tatthesameheightorarenotwelllocked together,pleasefollowthedisassemblinginstructionsatthebottomofthepage, disassembleandcheckifanydebrisstuckinsidethelockisobstructing.

2.Attheendofthefirstrow:

Wheneverpossible,planthelayoutsothatthejointsintheplanksdonotfallontopof jointsorseamsintheexistingsubstrate.Theendjointsoftheplanksshouldbestaggereda minimumof8”/20cmapart.Donotinstalloverexpansionjoints.Avoidinstallingpieces shorterthan12”/30cmatbeginningorendofrows

Placetheshortendoftheplankatanangleagainstthe shortsideofthepreviouslyinstalledfloorboardandfolddown.Slidedownthelongside oftheboardintothelockinggrooveoftheadjacentfloorboardinthepreviousrow. Whenthewholerowiscomplete,removethewedgeandfoldtherowdown.Usea tappingblockorcutofftogentlytapalongthelongsideuntilthejointisclosedtightly.

Cuttingtip:Ifcuttingwithajigsaw,thefloorsurfaceshouldbeturneddown.Otherwise alwayscutwiththefloorboardfacingup

Startthesecondrowwithacutoffplank.Alwaysensurethat theendjointsarestaggeredatleast8”/20cm,bothwheninthesamerowaswhen fromonerowtothenextoneThefirstplankoftherowshouldbeatleast12”/30cm inlength.Clickthelongsideoftheplankintothepreviousrowandplaceaninstallation wedgeundertheboard.

Tip:Afterfinishingtheinstallationofeveryrow,useatappingblockorcutoffanda rubbermallettogentlytaptheplanksintotheclickofthepreviousrowtomakesure theyaretightlyclickedtogetherandmakesurethereisnogapbetweenthelongsideof theplanksinstalled.Anygappingcancompromisethewholeinstallation.

5Tolaythelastrow:PositionalooseboardexactlyontopofthelastrowlaidPlace anotherboardontop,withthetonguesidetouchingthewall.Drawalinealongthe edgeofthisboards,tomarkthefirstboard.Cutalongtheedgeofthisboardtomark thefirstboard.Cutalongthislinetoobtainoftherequiredwidth.Insertthiscutboard againstthewall.Thelastrowshouldbeatleast2”/50mmwide.Usingapullbarand hammer,workevenlyalongthelengthoftheplankandlightlytapthejointclosed.The spacerscanthenberemoved.

6.Holesforpipes:Measurethediameterofthepipeanddrillaholethatis1/2”/12mm larger.Sawoffapieceasshowninthefigureandlaytheboardinplaceonthefloor. Thenlaythesawed-offpieceinplace.

7.Doormoldingandskirting:Layaboard(withthedecorativesidedown)nexttothe doormoldingandsawasshowninthefigureThenslidethefloorboardunderthe molding.

•Applysiliconesealantatconnectionstodoorframesoranyotherfixedobjects. •Brandedandgenericsiliconetubesareavailableinanylocalhomecenteror hardwarelocation.

Cleanupspillsandexcessiveliquidsimmediately.

Sweeporvacuumdailyusingsoftbristleattachments.

Donotuseabrasivecleaners,bleachorwaxtomaintainthefloor. Donotdragorslideheavyobjectsacrossthefloor.

VI.DISASSEMBLY

•Ifawatertightinstallationisrequired,applyasiliconebeadacrossthebottomof thetongueonbothlongandshortsidepriortoinstallingthefloorboard.Wipeoff anyexcesssiliconeimmediately.

•Priortoinstallingmoldings,applysiliconesealanttotheportionofthemoldingor transitionthatwillcontactdirectlywiththeflooringsurface.

IV.FINISHINGTHEINSTALLATION

Theuseofresidentialsteammopsonthisproductisallowed.Useatlowestpowerwitha suitablesoftpad,anddonotholdasteammopononespotforanextendedperiodoftime (longerthan5minutes).Refertothesteammop'smanufacturerinstructionsforproper usage Useproperfloorprotectiondevicessuchasfeltprotectorsunderfurniture.

V.MAINTENANCE

Dampmopasneededandusecleanersrecommendedandapprovedforlaminateflooring.

Filltheexpansionspaceswitha1/4”/6mmcompressiblePEfoambackerrodand coverwithaflexible100%siliconesealanttotheentireperimeteroftheinstallation. Donotuseanacrylicsealant.

Replacemoldingorwallbase.Nailthemoldingtothewallsurface,notthroughtheflooring.In areaswheretheflooringplanksmaymeetotherflooringsurfaces,theuseofatransition moldingisrequiredtocovertheexposededgebutdonotpinchtheplanks.Leavea1/4”/6 mmgapbetweentheplanksandtheadjoiningsurface.

Placeawalk-offmatatoutsideentrancestoreducetheamountofdirtbroughtintoyour homeDonotusematswithalatexorrubberbackingsincethesebackingscancause permanentdiscoloration.
