THE FATHER WHO NEVER CAME HOME

Every night I’d wait for his manly voice, I’d listen for his footsteps coming towards my room, But it was only a dream, which never happened.

I always wonder what it would be like, To have a father by my side, As I watch other kids with their fathers, Go pass me on the street.

Sometimes I wish he would show up at the door, With a look of happiness on his face, So I could embrace him and welcome my father home.

Now that I’m grown, I still wish he was here, To walk me down the aisle, As I make a commitment to be someone’s wife.

LET ME HAVE A CRY

I couldn’t find words to say, As tears took my speech away, I sat up for hours with my mind on replay, Recapping the memories made.

I tried to get a hold of myself, I wanted to believe anything else, except your death, The news shook the earth beneath me, And as a result I could be found just weeping.

It’s not as easy as the comforters say, That time will heal all the pain, But never truly does erase it, I now have to rebuild my life without you in it.
